Chapter 19: Crush them
Layla was shocked to see the news that had circulated in the entire social media. Her number was flooded with strange messages, forcing her to shut off her phone.
Her identity was exposed to the entire world that she was the illegitimate daughter of the Rosenzweig Family, born out of a wedlock, an affair.
When Layla first discovered that his father and mother weren’t married, she was five. Everyone in the school would tease her and would laugh at her. Orabela would make everyone’s mouth shut, which made Layla believe she was the best sister in the world. But to her shock, Orabela was the one who spread those rumors.
From middle school to high school to college, Layla could never find peace. Orabela made sure she would never feel happy. Whoever knew her identity looked at her with disgust, thinking someday she would also seduce a married man.
“Layla!”
Lucius’s soft voice fell into her ears and she quickly wiped the tears from her cheeks. She didn’t want him to see her weak side. She didn’t want Lucius to find her weak.
Lucius stopped right behind her and she slowly turned around to face him, but she kept her gaze low. “Keep your head up always,” Lucius advised her as he lifted her chin. “Everything will be removed from social media, so don’t worry. And tomorrow, we will have the wedding reception. Time to reveal to the world that you are my legal wife!” He said, the tiny smile still playing on his lips.
“Lucius, can I use you against my family? Against Orabela? And against Roderick?” Layla queried. She knew the answer, but she wanted a confirmation too.
“You can. But don’t be soft on them. Crush them completely. If you find that difficult, I’m there,” Lucius said, the hand on his chin now rested on her cheek. His thumb grazed under her eye to wipe the remnant of the tears. He did the same with the second eye.
“I am willing to work in your company. You need not give me a big position since I’m not that experienced. And I want to go through a proper process of hiring, so that no one says that I used you,” Layla stated.
“It’s my company, so I’m the one who can be a little partial towards his wife. I don’t think it’s wrong,” Lucius opined. “You think a lot, about good or bad. Just think of your own comfort and happiness,” he advised her.
“You are right. However, I have yet to learn a lot of things. I think I don’t deserve a big position because of knowledge. I can be an assistant to any manager since I did that work formerly too,” Layla explained to him.
“Why don’t you be my personal assistant?” His suggestion was quite surprising for Layla.
“You already have an assistant,” she replied.
“Roger is my secretary. But I need a personal assistant in the office. Roger does my outside job too, so he is usually quite busy. And having you as my personal assistant will be fun,” Lucius smirked at her.
“We will only work at the workplace,” Layla replied.
“Have you already imagined us doing something else? You are so naughty, Layla,” Lucius smirked.
Layla dubiously gazed at him. She still had a doubt in his intentions to help her. So far, she couldn’t find out why he was so good to her. He liked her, but how? His gestures even showed he loved her, but she didn’t want to believe them. Lucius had told her to love him as much as she could in return.
“Do you feel better? Shall we have breakfast?” Lucius asked.
“Yes,” she agreed.
Going downstairs, they had a hearty breakfast meal. As Layla left her seat, ready to collect the dishes out of habit, Lucius stopped her. “Maids will do that.”
The maids had already started cleaning the table. Once done, they left the dining hall, leaving both of them alone.
“I may return late tonight. If it gets past the dinner time, you will take your supper and sleep,” Lucius instructed her.
“Can I see Ruby? Please don’t refuse that,” Layla whispered.
“Roger will bring her here. I can’t compromise your safety,” Lucius stated.
“But Ruby has a shop to look after. If she comes here, her sales may get affected,” she opined.
“Don’t worry about that,” Lucius said and left his seat. He walked to her and leaned down, thus kissing her. It was a gentle peck as he stood straight. “Do not miss me,” he grinned and left her sight.
Layla, too, left the dinner table and came to the living room. Lucius wasn’t around. A servant came to her with a small bag in her hand. “Master has asked to give this to you,” she humbly said.
Layla accepted it and sat on the sofa to check what it was. “A phone?” Her eyes widened and there was a card with it.

“You’ll use this phone and number from now onward. I saw your phone’s screen is broken. Hope you like this small gift.”
Layla smiled a little. “How does he know I’m not going to use that phone?” She murmured and turned on the phone to check it.
“Madam, Sir Alekis is here!” The same servant informed her after some time.
“What?” Layla promptly left her seat and saw her father-in-law coming from the front.
Alekis stopped right near the couch, whom Layla immediately greeted. Her eyes remained low and she waited for her father-in-law to take a seat.
As Alekis sat down, he asked Layla to sit as well.
She gracefully sat across from him. “Lucius left a few minutes ago. Will Father take tea?” Layla humbly queried.
“I’m not here to see Lucius and I won’t take tea,” Alekis stated.
Layla clasped her hands together nervously.
“My family’s name has never been into the news like this before. I have no idea why Lucius suddenly married you. But he claims to like you. Also, you shouldn’t involve my son in your family affairs. What he did at your house last night shouldn’t have happened if you had handled it well.”
Layla promptly looked at him after hearing the last statement. “Did something happen in my house?” She was unaware of the fact how Lucius terrified every single one in her house.
“I don’t like liars, Layla,” Alekis hoarsely said, realizing she was pretending before him. “Many things happened after you got married to Lucius. I wanted a good wife for him, not the one who brings troubles,” he added with a sharp tone.
