Real Heiress: Flash Marriage With Boyfriend's Uncle - Chapter 190
Chapter 190: To keep my word Chapter 190: To keep my word “Did you accomplish what I wanted?” A deep, commanding voice echoed through the dimly lit room.
The figure of a man seated in a leather chair was barely visible, his silhouette illuminated only by the faint glow of a single bulb.
One leg was crossed over the other.
“I’m sorry, but the bullet hit Lucius instead,” the shooter stammered, his voice trembling with fear.
The man silently reached for the burning cigar resting in the ashtray.
Bringing it to his lips, he took a long drag.
He exhaled a thick puff of smoke, leaning his head back as if pondering the gravity of the situation.
“You hurt the wrong person,” he finally said.
“Please forgive me, Sir,” the shooter begged, his head bowed low.
He knelt on the floor, his hands resting on his thighs in a submissive posture.
“This is the first time I’ve ever made a mistake.
I swear it won’t happen again.
Please spare me this once.” The man didn’t respond immediately.
Instead, he extended a hand, and his confidant silently stepped forward, placing a black gun in his palm.
The man’s fingers wrapped around the weapon.
“I only give one chance,” he said coldly, his voice devoid of emotion.
“Lucius was not to be harmed.” The shooter’s head shot up in desperation, his eyes wide with terror.
The bullet struck the center of his forehead, and he collapsed to the floor, blood pooling rapidly beneath him.
Without sparing the lifeless body a second glance, the man handed the gun back to his confidant.
“Get rid of him,” he ordered.
~~~~ In the depths of unconsciousness, memories resurfaced vividly in Lucius’s mind, drawing him back to a day etched in both warmth and regret-a day he called his older brother, Antoine.
“You’re promising me past one month that you’d go fishing with me.
Are you ignoring your younger brother now?” Lucius teased over the phone.
Antoine leaned back in his swivel chair, tapping his fingers thoughtfully on the armrest.
With a wave of his hand, he signaled his secretary to pause her briefing.
“Alright, alright.
I’ll come,” Antoine relented, a small smile tugging at the corners of his lips.
“Where are you?” “I’m outside your company, waiting for you,” Lucius replied, his voice carrying a hint of impatience.
“Hmm.
Wait for me a few minutes,” Antoine said, hanging up the call.
He turned to his secretary, his expression resolute.
“Mr.
Parker, cancel the meeting scheduled for this afternoon.
Move it to Monday.” The secretary looked up in surprise.
“But Sir, that meeting is with the board members.
Are you certain you want to postpone it?” Antoine nodded firmly.
“Yes.
I can’t keep lying to my brother anymore.
He’s been asking me for a month to go fishing with him.
It’s time I keep my word.” A rare, genuine smile crossed his face as he stood, grabbing his blazer from the nearby stand and slipping it on.
Reaching into his desk drawer, he retrieved his car keys.
“See you Monday,” he said with finality before heading out.
Moments later, Antoine pulled up in front of the company, his car slowing as he spotted Lucius standing near the entrance, chatting animatedly with a security guard.
Antoine smirked and pressed the car horn, catching his brother’s attention.
Lucius turned toward the sound, his face lighting up with excitement.
With a wave and a grin, he jogged over to the car with the fishing equipment he had brought with him.
Placing them on the backseat, he stepped into the front seat and fastened the seatbelt.
“Thanks, Bro, for keeping your promise,” he said.
Antoine smiled and drove the car out of the company gates.
“You weren’t home this entire week.
May I know why?” Antoine questioned.
“Umm…
I was partying the entire week,” Lucius said.
“Don’t tell me you have no intention to join the company,” Antoine frowned.
“Yes.
I will just live on the fortune of father and brother.
Moreover, this kind of work doesn’t interest me,” Lucius stated.
“Then, do you enjoy working with Matteo?” Antoine inquired.
“Hmm.
That’s a fun work,” Lucius admitted.
“Dad is worried for you.
You should understand that such kind of work can risk your life,” Antoine advised him.
“I am not doing anything wrong but wiping out the gangs, which terrify the innocent people.
The law is not going to handle them, so your younger brother has taken that mission in his hand,” Lucius asserted.
Antoine chuckled and briefly glanced at his brother.
“If you ever get injured, I will make sure you won’t no longer work by Matteo’s side.
I do not wish anything happen to my brother,” he proclaimed, showing his brotherly love.
“Nothing will happen to me.
I have a long life to live,” Lucius said.
Antoine smiled at him.
“So, when do you plan to get married?
I heard that you didn’t even attend the dates Dad arranged for you.
Instead, you sent Roger in them.
Don’t you think that’s wrong to those women who look forward to meet my handsome brother?” He teased.
“I am not interested in getting married yet.
Also, no one is going to understand me after the marriage.
You know my work isn’t clean.
And I don’t wish to hear the nagging of any woman,” Lucius affirmed.
Antoine understood from where those words were coming.
His mother never truly cared for him and even used to scold him all the time.
Perhaps that was the reason he had less trust on the women.
“Alright.
Whenever you find a woman suitable for you, make sure you introduce us.
I would like to give you two my blessings,” Antoine said with a smile.
“Sure,” Lucius replied.
They were now far from the city and was on an isolated highway, which led the way to a peaceful region where a fishing spot was present.
Lucius was engaged in a cheerful conversation with Antoine when suddenly a speeding truck came in their direction.
Antoine tried to dodge the collision but it was too late.
His seatbelt opened and he used himself as a shield to protect Lucius from getting large blow.
The glasses shattered into pieces while the car overturned on the same highway.
The temple of Lucius’s forehead started bleeding and his mind was hazy.
He saw his brother’s face covered in the blood, his eyes were closed.
