Real Heiress: Flash Marriage With Boyfriend's Uncle - Chapter 196
Chapter 196: My worst side Chapter 196: My worst side Lucius wiped the water from his face.
Leaning against the counter, he fixed his gaze on Roger, who was zipping up the bag.
“What did you find out?” Roger straightened up, meeting his eyes.
“I’ll tell you once you’re discharged,” he replied, keeping his tone even as he grabbed a towel and put it in the other pocket of the bag.
Lucius accepted it with a faint nod while Roger continued, “I’ll have my lunch outside.
That way, you can have some privacy with Madam.” “No,” Lucius stated, his tone brooking no argument.
“Stay with us.
Layla wants you here, and I don’t want to disappoint her.” He adjusted his shirt collar and walked out of the washroom first, leaving Roger to follow.
As Lucius stepped into the room, his gaze immediately fell on Layla.
She was seated near the window, engrossed in a phone call.
The soft light from the window framed her figure, casting a warm glow over her features.
He didn’t interrupt, instead quietly making his way to the bed and sitting down.
His eyes lingered on her for a moment, a soft smile tugging at his lips.
“Come to see Lucius once he’s discharged.
Don’t worry.
I am fine.
Yeah.
Sure.” Layla hung up the call and glanced at Lucius.
“It was Ruby.” “Oh.
I feel hungry.
Let’s see what you’ve cooked for me,” Lucius excitedly said.
“A simple meal,” Layla said, opening the boxes and setting them on the table.
Roger stood on the other side of the bed.
“Roger, have this box,” she forwarded one with spoon.
“Thank you,” Roger sat on the chair and began eating.
As Layla handed the spoon to Lucius, he pretended of not able to carry it well.
She grabbed the spoon from him and fed him.
Roger looked at his boss with a sly smile, realizing he could use his left hand well.
But he remained quiet and let Lucius enjoy this pampering treatment.
~~~~~ After a long day at work, Roderick finally made his way to the hospital on his mother’s insistence.
She had urged him over the phone to visit Lucius, leaving him with little choice but to comply.
On his way, he stopped at a florist, picking out a bouquet of vibrant blooms before heading to the hospital.
Pushing open the door to Lucius’s room, Roderick stepped inside, a faint smile softening his weary expression.
He walked over to Lucius and placed the bouquet gently on his lap.
“These are for you, Uncle,” he said.
“I’m sorry I couldn’t visit sooner.” Roderick’s gaze swept across the room.
Layla wasn’t there-only Roger was present, seated in the corner with arms crossed, his glare fixed on Roderick like a silent accusation.
“I thought Layla would be here,” Roderick said, breaking the tense silence.
Lucius smiled faintly, his fingers brushing over the delicate petals of the flowers.
“She went to the doctor’s office,” he explained.
“Have a seat,” he stated.
“I’ll be outside,” Roger excused himself.
Roderick hesitated for a moment, his gaze lingering on the closed door, before reluctantly lowering himself into the chair by Lucius’s bedside.
“Don’t trouble Layla,” Lucius began as his eyes locked on Roderick.
“I know you still pursue her, holding onto the hope that she might come back to you.” Roderick arched a brow, the corner of his mouth twitching in faint disbelief.
“I thought we were here to discuss your injury and your health,” he said, a surprised edge to his voice.
“But apparently, the topic has shifted to Layla.” “Because that’s the only thing worth discussing,” Lucius shot back.
“I know you don’t care whether I live or die.
You’ve hated me ever since your father-” He stopped abruptly because Roderick intervened.
His fingers, which had been absently tracing the petals of a flower, stilled.
“Did you gain sympathy from Layla by telling her the lies?
You and Dad were arguing pretty badly.
I witnessed with my own eyes.
You were angry at my Dad,” he muttered, suddenly bringing out the matter he had buried for so long.
Lucius furrowed his brows together as he heard his nephew’s words.
He put pressure on his mind and recalled the day he ended up arguing with Antoine.
“Rick, you have misunderstood everything from that day.
I wasn’t angry at Antoine.
It was…
It was because like my Dad he wanted me to leave Matteo’s side.
He and I argued but everything turned well within minutes between us.
I was never interested in working in the company because it didn’t suit me.
Haven’t you seen me when we lost Antoine?
I wasn’t ready to join the work.
For Dad and for my late brother, I did,” Lucius proclaimed, his hand resting on his chest.
Roderick just stared at him, but said nothing.
“Why did you pursue Layla?
She was my girlfriend and I hadn’t broken up with her.
I admit I made a huge mistake, but why you’ve to send a proposal to her parents.
Wasn’t it because you always desired to see me getting ruined?” Roderick asked him.
“I wanted to be with Layla for a long time even before you met her.
However, I also desired her to graduate first.
I have no idea you would start dating her.
But then, it was your fault to cheat on her.
Don’t justify your actions with the excuses,” Lucius clarified, but did not give much details.
“You played with me,” Roderick said.
“I took the opportunity to free Layla from her miseries,” Lucius affirmed.
“You didn’t like the fact that Layla was the illegitimate daughter of the Rosenzweig family.
That’s why you never introduced her to Fiona, but you introduced Orabela.
Don’t justify the wrong you did.
You were after money while I didn’t care whether Layla held wealth or not,” Lucius proclaimed.
“She is kind to you.
But I won’t be, Rick.
Not every time.
I have forgiven you a lot of times despite what you do.
But if you keep bothering Layla, I need to show you my worst side,” he threatened his nephew.
