Real Heiress: Flash Marriage With Boyfriend's Uncle - Chapter 214
Chapter 214: Fuel to the fire Chapter 214: Fuel to the fire After tucking Lucius into bed, Layla sat by his side, her fingers gently brushing across his cheek.
“I promise to ease your pain,” she whispered softly, but with determination.
As she lingered, her phone buzzed, breaking the stillness.
Glancing at the screen, she noticed it was a reply from Demitri-something she hadn’t expected after he had ignored her earlier call.
Without hesitation, Layla opened the message and began typing.
“Can we meet if you’re free?” she wrote, her fingers trembling slightly.
After hitting send, she hesitated for a moment before adding, “If possible, let’s meet tonight.” The response was almost immediate.
“Sure,” Demitri replied, followed by the location of a nearby café, conveniently close to her home.
Layla exhaled deeply, a mix of relief and apprehension washing over her.
She glanced back at Lucius.
“I will return soon,” she murmured.
Since the night air was cold, Layla draped a long coat over her shoulders before quietly leaving her room to meet Demitri at the café.
As she descended the last step of the staircase, she spotted Roderick emerging from the kitchen, holding a jar of water.
She froze, hoping to slip past unnoticed, but his sharp gaze caught her.
Without hesitation, he approached her with a curious expression.
“Where are you going at this hour?” Roderick asked, his tone edged with suspicion.
Layla turned to him with an impassive look.
“I thought we agreed not to speak to each other anymore,” she replied coolly, trying to maintain her composure.
“You bother me,” Roderick shot back, his frown deepening, “but what my uncle said earlier bothers me even more.” “I don’t have time to waste on you,” Layla muttered and brushed past him.
The guard outside the mansion looked at Layla, asking her where she was heading to.
“Just the nearby cafe.
I’ll be back in a while,” Layla replied and opened the car’s door.
However, before she could step in, Roderick slammed the door shut, appearing out of the blue before her.
“Get away,” Layla said with a stern tone.
“Give me the keys.
I’ll drive you to the cafe,” Roderick demanded, moving his hand forward.
“Rick, stop it.
Okay?” Layla stated.
“Well, you should not be going out alone,” Roderick asserted.
He held her hand and took the keys from her.

“I’ll drive you,” he added and slid into the driver’s seat.
Layla sighed in exasperation.
Arguing with Roderick felt like a waste of time she didn’t have.
Reluctantly, she got into the passenger seat and crossed her arms.
As Roderick started the engine, she quickly input the café address into the car’s navigation system.
The car moved forward, leaving the estate behind.
“Whom are you meeting at this hour?” Roderick asked, breaking the silence.
“Why do you want to know?” Layla countered, her gaze fixed outside the window.
“Well, we do have a connection, Layla,” Roderick said, his voice soft but insistent.
“You can’t ignore me all the time.
Maybe I can help you.” Layla shifted her gaze to him with a neutral expression.
“Why don’t you support your uncle, then?” she suggested.
Roderick scoffed, his grip on the steering wheel tightening.
“What support does my uncle even need?” he muttered bitterly.
Layla’s eyes narrowed.
“Don’t blame him for your father’s death,” she urged this time.
“It was a traumatic experience for him, and your words only add fuel to the fire.” Roderick fell silent for a moment.
Then, he spoke again, his voice colder than before.
“Did you even hear what my grandma said to Uncle Lucius this morning?” Layla stared at him, unsure of what he was referring to.
“What did she say?” “Grandma blamed Uncle for my father’s death.
When his own mother knows what her son could do, then who I am to blame him.
I am only stating a fact, which everyone ignores.
Even my mother doesn’t believe me,” Roderick stated while restraining his anger.
“Lucius’s mother is lying,” Layla said with conviction.
“She doesn’t want Lucius involved in the mafia work.
So, she hurts him with such harsh remarks.
But I will make sure this misunderstanding is cleared up one day, Rick.
You may end up regretting hating your uncle.” Roderick was silent for a moment, slowly applying the brakes as they reached their destination.
He stopped the car, his eyes lingering on her for a second before he thought in his mind, ‘Maybe you’re right.
But it’s hard to let go of all the resentment.’ Layla exited the car.
She made her way inside, the door chiming as she entered.
Roderick watched her disappear into the café, a sigh escaping his lips.
“What kind of magic has my uncle worked on her?” he muttered to himself with a chuckle, shaking his head as he leaned his head back on the headrest.
Inside the café, Layla found a quiet table by the window and sat down, her fingers tapping lightly on the surface as she waited.
The minutes stretched on, but eventually, Demitri entered, looking as composed as ever in his usual attire.
“Sorry for keeping you waiting,” Demitri said, his voice smooth as he slid into the seat across from her.
“It’s fine,” Layla replied, offering a small smile as she waited for him to settle in.
Ordering two cups of warm coffee, she continued, “What happened between you both?
He returned home in a state which I have never seen before.
And he was crying too.” Demitri fidgeted with his fingers as he lowered his head.
“It seems you betrayed him,” Layla said.
“Well, I want him to be safe,” Demitri replied.
“You should not hide anything from Lucius.
I thought you understood him.” Layla searched for an answer in his eyes.
“I do.
But he doesn’t,” Demitri replied.
“Solve it.
I don’t want you two to fight with each other,” Layla asserted when her attention finally shifted to the bruise on his face.
“How did you get that bruise?” She knew the answer but she wanted to hear from his mouth.
Before Demitri could respond, the waiter arrived with two hot cups of coffee, setting them down on the table before quietly walking away.
“Lucius threw a punch at me.
He’s ended our friendship.
And I’m not ready to make amends with him either,” he said, lifting the mug to his lips before taking a sip.
