Real Heiress: Flash Marriage With Boyfriend's Uncle - Chapter 242
Chapter 242: Swear on our friendship Chapter 242: Swear on our friendship “What is it that you don’t want to include Lucius in?” Demitri asked in a light tone with intrigue, a faint smile still lingering on his lips.
“Aren’t you two practically like brothers?
You’ve always shared everything with each other,” he added.
Matteo returned the smile, though it was softer and carried a hint of resignation.
He gave a slight nod before replying, “You’re right.
Lucius and I are like brothers, but you also know that my life is deeply tied to the mafia world, unlike his.
I don’t want him to remain a part of this profession for long.
He deserves better.” “But Lucius loves working with you,” Demitri remarked.
Matteo leaned back slightly.
“Lucius has a caring family, something I lost a long time ago.
My sister isn’t in Italy, so I’m not worried for her.
The only person I deeply care is Lucius for now.
He’s the type who will find a loving wife and build a future filled with peace.
That’s why I’m doing everything I can to clean up a few loose ends-so none of this ever touches him.” There was a weight to Matteo’s words, something that made Demitri pause.
He could sense the depth of Matteo’s intentions, though some of it eluded his full understanding.
“You’re trying to protect him,” Demitri said.
“Kind of,” Matteo agreed with a faint nod.
Demitri leaned forward.
“So, what do I have to do?” he asked.
Matteo’s expression turned serious.
“I need to find a Russian mafia boss named Tsar,” he revealed.
“But to get to him, I need someone from Italy-someone with strong connections there.
It’ll make the search easier.” “What?” Demitri’s brows knitted together in concern.
“Why from Italy?
And why Tsar?
I’ve heard the mafias there are extremely dangerous.
What are you trying to pull?” He tried to read Matteo’s enigmatic expression, but as always, it was like staring into a locked vault.
Matteo’s calm exterior only hinted at the dark secrets he carried.
“It’s for Lucius,” Matteo said simply, his tone leaving no room for further probing.
“That’s the only explanation I can give you.” Reaching into the inner pocket of his jacket, Matteo retrieved a neatly folded note and placed it on the table between them.

“I have five names-people who might connect me to Tsar.
I need you to do a background check on them.
Figure out who among them can help me the most, and give me their details.” Demitri stared at the note for a moment before shifting his gaze back to Matteo.
The weight of the request settled heavily on his shoulders, but it was Matteo’s next words that truly gave him pause.
“Demitri,” Matteo continued, “don’t ever mention this to Lucius.
Swear on our friendship that you won’t breathe a word of this to him.” For a moment, Demitri hesitated, sensing something rare and almost unexplainable in Matteo’s demeanor.
“Alright,” Demitri finally said.
“I won’t tell Lucius, not if this is for him.
But promise me one thing.” Matteo tilted his head slightly, a flicker of curiosity crossing his face.
“What is it?” “Promise me you won’t get hurt,” Demitri stated, his tone both firm and pleading.
Matteo laughed softly, the sound carrying a surprising warmth.
“Sure,” he said with a smile that reached his eyes.
“I promise.” **Flashback Ended** Lucius curled his fingers into tight fists, his knuckles turning white as he processed the truth.
“I have no idea what Matteo and Fabio’s father discussed that day.
I was left in the dark about their conversation, just like everything else.
And I still don’t understand how Matteo ended up meeting Tsar or why he got entangled with him,” he said with a deep frown on his forehead.
He paused, swallowing hard as guilt consumed him.
“But I regret it, Lucius.
I regret every moment of helping him.
I should’ve refused, no matter what he said.
I shouldn’t have helped him at all.” “What’s done is done,” Lucius said.
“Thank you for telling me the truth,” he asserted, feeling better suddenly.
“What will you do now?
Go after Tsar?
I don’t think you should,” Demitri said, his worried eyes fixed on Lucius, searching for any sign of reassurance.
Lucius didn’t answer immediately.
Instead, he offered a cold yet composed response.
“You should rest now.
The guest room is available next to the staircase on the left.
Let’s talk in the morning.” Demitri sighed, recognizing the finality in Lucius’s tone.
There was no point pressing further tonight.
Still, a question lingered in his mind.
“Did you catch Fabio?
And how did you burn his estate?
That tall guy was with you the entire time,” he asked, trying to understand how Lucius operated with such precision in such a tight situation.
Lucius’s eyes sparkled, and a faint smirk curved his lips.
“I have my ways of handling things effectively,” he replied.
“But Fabio… he thought he could touch Layla and get away with it.
I’ll make sure he understands the depth of his mistake.” He turned on his heels, his coat swaying as he prepared to leave.
Demitri stood up abruptly, stopping his friend.
“Lucius… I’m sorry.
If you can, please forgive me.
I should have come to you from the start.
I should’ve told you everything.
I-I’m sorry for keeping you in the dark,” he said, his throat tightening as guilt overwhelmed him.
Lucius stopped and glanced over his shoulder.
“I forgive you,” he said, his voice low and steady.
“But promise me this: never underestimate my abilities again.
And, Demitri…” He paused for a moment before finding the right words, “Don’t blame yourself for Matteo’s death.
You weren’t the reason he died.” Lucius turned away, his voice almost inaudible as he murmured, “It was me.
Matteo lost his life because of me.” With that, Lucius walked away, leaving Demitri standing in an eerie silence.
Lucius entered his car and the phone rang.
He tapped on his ear and heard Zayne’s voice, “Boss, Roger is on his way here.” “Great!
I’ll be in the base soon,” he pronounced and hung up on the call and drove off.
