Real Heiress: Flash Marriage With Boyfriend's Uncle - Chapter 246
Chapter 246: Layla is a sweetheart Chapter 246: Layla is a sweetheart “Who is it?” Layla asked, noticing the deep furrow in Lucius’s brow.
“Sylvia,” Lucius replied, his voice tinged with surprise.
“I thought she was upset with you,” Layla pointed out, her gaze narrowing.
“I didn’t expect her to be texting you.” Lucius exhaled slowly with an uncertain expression on his face.
“I thought the same,” he murmured, clearly unsettled by the unexpected message.
Layla’s tone softened with concern.
“You should check in on her, see if she’s okay,” she suggested.
“She’s your friend’s sister after all.” “Sylvia should not have texted me because that’s what she told Roger.
Not to follow her in the states.
I feel something else is there,” Lucius said.
“Do you mean someone is threatening her?” Layla arched her eyebrows.
“Kind of.
But I’m not sure yet,” Lucius replied.
“I need to check first,” he asserted.
“You don’t trust Sylvia, do you?” Layla mused.
“The Lucius I know is someone who will not even wait for a second to save his precious people and here he is taking time.
I believe you are tricked by Sylvia a lot of times,” she proclaimed.
The elevator pinged open and she stepped out first.
~~~~ After touring the entire company, Layla stood by the floor-to-ceiling window of her grand office, taking in the breathtaking view of the city below.
The skyline stretched endlessly, and for a moment, she felt a sense of calm settle within her-a feeling that was quickly interrupted by Aiden’s voice.
“Here is your first day of schedule, Madam,” Aiden said, stepping into the office with a folder in his hands.
Layla turned toward him, her thoughts momentarily drifting away from the view.
“What’s on the agenda?” she asked.
“Madam needs to sign the files on your desk,” Aiden replied, placing the folder gently on the desk in front of her.
“And there is a party organized by the employees for their new chairwoman.
It’s this evening at the Sunshine Hotel.” Layla raised an eyebrow, a slight sigh escaping her lips.
“A party for me.
That wasn’t even necessary.” Aiden smiled.
“Well, everyone is happy to have you as the leader of the company.
Madam deserved it.” Layla’s smile lingered as she made her way toward the desk, her fingers brushing lightly over the surface.
She picked up a pen and began to open the first file, but her gaze didn’t stray from Aiden as she asked, “I would like to know something.
Where did Roger leave one night ago?
Did he say anything to you?” Aiden, standing a few steps away, answered politely, “I have no idea, Madam.
I was asleep.” Layla paused for a moment.
She set the pen down, then raised her eyes to meet his.
“Hmm.
You should leave,” she said with a smile, signaling the end of the conversation.
Aiden nodded and walked out of the office.
He messaged Lucius right away, telling him Layla was suspicious of them.
~~~~ “Madam spotted me leaving the cottage that night.
Aiden just informed me how Madam was asking about it.
Is it necessary for Boss to hide the truth from Madam?
She will be upset if she finds out what Boss has done and how he lied,” Roger remarked.
Lucius paused, his fingers lingering over the proposal in front of him as he listened to Roger’s words.
“If I tell her I burned the estate, what will she think?” Lucius asked as if he was already anticipating her reaction.
Roger, standing across from him, crossed his arms thoughtfully.
“She will scold you for taking matters into your own hands like that,” he replied.
“But she will also be upset about the truth being kept from her.
You can’t keep hiding it, Boss.” “I was furious that Fabio tried to harm Layla.
I don’t regret burning his estate.
He deserved that,” Lucius pronounced.
“I didn’t like this proposal.
You should tell Mr.
Bernard to work harder and give me something innovative.
If he can’t, he better stop leading the management of the tech branch,” he instructed to Roger, closing the file and placing it on the table.
“I understand, Boss,” Roger took the file from the desk.
Once he left, Lucius picked up his phone and called Zayne.
“How is the case going on?
Did Fabio get any lawyer?” “No, Boss.
The lawyers aren’t willing to take Fabio’s case, knowing you are the one against whom they have to fight,” Zayne replied from the other side.
“Great.
I went through the file you handed over to me,” Lucius began, his tone deliberate.
“Can you find out which officer prepared my brother’s accident case file?” he asked, a hint of urgency in his voice.
“I can, Boss.
Just give me some time,” Zayne replied, his tone confident but respectful.
Lucius gave a thoughtful nod.
“Hmm.
Thank you,” he said, a small gesture of appreciation.
Zayne hesitated for a moment before speaking up again.
“Boss, I actually have something to tell you,” he said quickly, as if it had been weighing on him.
Lucius raised an eyebrow, his curiosity piqued.
“What is it?” Zayne shifted his stance, clearly a little nervous.
“I’m seeing someone…
a woman,” he began, pausing to gather his thoughts.
“I told her I’d introduce her to my big brother.” Lucius leaned back in his chair, a small, knowing smile tugging at his lips.
“If you’re busy, I can tell her to wait,” Zayne added, a hint of uncertainty in his voice.
Lucius gave him a reassuring look.
“Bring her over for dinner at the house tomorrow,” he said with a smile, his voice warm.
“We’ll make it a family affair.” Zayne’s face brightened, though he still looked a little hesitant.
“Thank you, Boss.
But, um…
can you check with Layla first?
I hope she won’t mind.” Lucius chuckled softly, his expression fond.
“She won’t mind.
Layla is a sweetheart.
She’ll be happy to hear about this,” he explained with a reassuring smile.
“Sure.
I’ll come with my girlfriend tomorrow then.
She’s in the police, by the way.
I’ll tell you the rest once we meet on the same table,” Zayne stated, shying a bit because he hardly brought such matters to Lucius.
“Of course.
I’ll hang up then,” Lucius said and cut the call.
