Real Heiress: Flash Marriage With Boyfriend's Uncle - Chapter 256
Chapter 256: Selfish of me Chapter 256: Selfish of me “Why did you two never reveal it to the others?” Roderick asked, his curiosity evident as he leaned closer, his gaze fixed on Ivy.
She swirled the remnants of her drink before taking the final sip.
“We thought it was better to keep it a secret until we were sure about…
marrying each other.” She paused, her voice lowering as if the words weighed her down.
“But in the end, he decided we shouldn’t marry each other.” The bitterness in her tone didn’t go unnoticed by Roderick.
He reached out as she motioned to refill her glass, stopping her hand gently but firmly.
“That’s enough,” he said.
He signaled for the bill, pulling out his wallet to settle it.
Once done, he turned to her.
“Come on, let’s get out of here,” he suggested, standing up and holding out his hand.
Ivy hesitated, staring at his outstretched hand.
For a moment, she considered refusing.
However, Roderick held her hand and dragged her out of the bar.
“I feel dizzy,” Ivy murmured, her steps faltering as the pain from her heels became unbearable.
“Please, slow down.” Roderick paused immediately, his gaze shifting to her with concern.
“What’s the name of the man you were seeing?” he asked.
Ivy glanced at him, eyebrows furrowing.
“Why do you want to know?” Roderick’s expression grew serious as if he was pondering something.
“I want to speak with him-to make sure he doesn’t make the same foolish mistake I did.” Ivy shook her head.
“No, Roderick.
Don’t even think about it.
Just take me home, please.” He gazed into her eyes and nodded.
“But at least tell me his name,” Roderick pressed.
Sighing, Ivy relented, her shoulders slumping.
“Elliot Harold,” she said.
Roderick’s eyes widened in shock.
“Elliot…
betrayed you?” The surprise in his voice was genuine.
“What are you even trying to do?

It’s over,” she said softly, her hand briefly touching his arm in an attempt to calm him.
“I appreciate you coming all the way here to see me, but don’t get involved in my mess.
It’s my life, and I need to move on.” She gave him a small, resigned smile, hoping he would understand.
Ivy pointed toward the car parked on her right, “Is that your car?” she asked, and began to walk in its direction, but before she could take another step, Roderick gently caught her wrist.
Roderick shook his head, his grip loosening as he looked at her earnestly.
“I never let anyone find out about Layla,” he said, his voice tinged with regret.
“I was afraid her past might ruin my reputation.
But now…
I regret that decision.
I don’t want Elliot to make the same mistake I did.
I was a real jerk to Layla, and I see that now.
But I know Elliot isn’t like that.
He isn’t the kind of man who would do something like that for no reason.” Ivy stood there, confusion flickering in her eyes as she processed his words.
“My father’s company is struggling,” Ivy confessed, her voice heavy with worry.
“We’re on the brink of falling into a debt trap.
That’s why Elliot doesn’t want to marry me.
His family won’t accept me.
He wasn’t cheating on me, but he shattered all the dreams I had about our future together.” Roderick listened intently, his mind racing as he absorbed the depth of Ivy’s situation.
It was far more complicated than he had initially thought.
He didn’t speak, just silently walked her to the car.
After making sure she was comfortably seated, he slid into the driver’s seat, his thoughts still lingering on her words.
As he was about to start the engine, his gaze shifted to the entrance of the bar.
There, standing with another woman, was Elliot-looking completely at ease, as if nothing had ever happened between him and Ivy.
Ivy, sensing the shift in Roderick’s focus, almost turned her head toward the entrance.
But before she could, Roderick quickly placed his hand over her eyes.
She held Roderick’s hand, gently lowering it as she found his face suddenly right in front of hers.
“What are you doing?” she asked, squinting at him in confusion.
Roderick gave her a calm, almost playful look.
“There’s an eyelash on your cheek,” he whispered.
He pretended to brush it away, but his thumb lingered on her cheek for a moment longer than necessary.
His eyes flicked over his shoulder to check on Elliot.
To his relief, Elliot had gone inside the bar.
Ivy couldn’t help but feel a strange as she registered the odd tension in the air.
After a second, Roderick finally pulled away, settling back into his seat.
He cleared his throat before asking, “What’s your house address?” Ivy, still processing the moment, reached for the GPS device and entered the address before leaning back against the seat.
The journey was silent as none of them spoke.
Roderick pulled the car in front of her house, which was a villa and exited the car to open the door from her side.
“Thank you,” Ivy said softly as she stepped out of the car, her voice laced with gratitude.
She paused, her gaze briefly meeting Roderick’s.
“It would be selfish of me to keep pretending to be your dating partner.
I’ll tell my parents that I don’t want to see you anymore.
And…
I’m sorry for bothering you all this time,” she added.
Roderick’s eyes softened as he responded, “You never bothered me.” He let out a small sigh and continued, “Your parents might get angry if you tell them you don’t want to see me.” Ivy shrugged, her lips curling into a small, almost wistful smile.
“I can handle their anger.
It’s not like they’ll throw me out,” she muttered.
Then, as if the gravity of the moment had shifted, she added gently, “You aren’t as bad as I thought you’d be.” Roderick glanced at her for a moment.
“Well, I am a bad guy.
You don’t need to lie to my face,” he said.
Giving her a forward nudge, he said, “Go inside.”
