Real Heiress: Flash Marriage With Boyfriend's Uncle - Chapter 290
Chapter 290: Make a choice Chapter 290: Make a choice “Thanks Chase for bringing Demitri here,” Lucius talked to his trusted man, whom he had asked to keep a watch on Roderick.
“Boss, I did my duty.
Luckily, I was in that area,” Chase said.
“Hmm.
You can leave.
Thank you for your hardwork,” Lucius said.
Chase turned around and left in the car while Lucius came upstairs, where Demitri was standing.
“Let’s go in,” Lucius told him and the two went inside the mansion.
Making Demitri sit on the couch, Lucius poured a glass of water for him.
“Drink it and relax,” Lucius said.
Demitri thanked him and drank the whole glass of water.
As Lucius took it back, Demitri said, “This was on my computer,” and he showed him the sticky note.
Lucius took it from him.
As he read the contents on it, a grim expression occupied his face.
“Were you looking for Tsar?” he asked and settled on the sofa chair, his one leg resting above the other.
“Yes.
I thought I could help you by doing so.
Someone broke into my house tonight.
I couldn’t find out anyone.
I was scared that I might d–” Lucius interjected him in the middle.
“Nothing will happen to you.
I’ll go to your house tomorrow.
For now, you should take some rest.
I’ll show you the guest room.” “Lucius, I think Tsar’s men were always around us.
We could never find out.
What if someone near you gives all the information to Tsar?
Have you ever thought of checking into the info of the men you have in your service,” Demitri suggested him.
“I have been meticulous about my work.
I don’t think any of them can betray me,” Lucius asserted, keeping faith in them.
“Someone knew my door’s password.

Except for you, I have not told it to anyone, not even Aiden and Roger,” Demitri said.
“Something is not right.
Maybe Tsar has always been keeping an eye on you.
Maybe he knows what you will do next,” he opined.
Lucius contemplated on what his friend said.
“I’ll look into it.
For now, just rest.
You can stay here from now onward.
It’s better to keep you close because I can’t afford anything happen to you,” he asserted, showing his genuine concern.
As he lifted from the sofa chair, Demitri too stood up.
They reached outside the guest room.
“Go in and think nothing.
Just sleep.
Also, thank you for not hiding it from me,” Lucius said, patting his back.
“Are you not scared?” Demitri inquired.
“Why should I be scared?” Lucius questioned back.
“Lucius, it’s not going to be easy.
What if everything that belongs to you gets into a risk?
I know Matteo did a foolish mistake by keeping you in dark, but it’s a high time for you to step back.
You are doing well in your life.
You have gotten a beautiful, loving wife.
And I’m sure after some time, your family will grow.
Eventually, as the time passes, you will forget everything.” Demitri, as a friend, tried to make Lucius understand that there was no use to find a truth which would only destroy his life.
Lucius, on the other hand, couldn’t tell Demitri what was in his head.
“I know.
Don’t worry about it,” Lucius said and asked him to take some rest.
Walking away, Lucius went to his study room and opened the drawer where he had kept a small diary with many contacts.
He didn’t want to use this diary because it consisted of the contacts of all the people from the underworld.
One such person was Varya Sokolov, a mafia lady from Russia.
Lucius looked at her number for a moment before dialing it.
“What are you doing here?” Layla’s sudden voice startled him and he quickly hid the diary behind his back.
“Did any important work come?” she asked, taking steps toward him.
“Someone broke into Demitri’s house, so he called me,” Lucius said.
“Is he fine?” She immediately asked for his well-being.
“I brought Demitri here.
He is resting now in the guest room,” Lucius answered.
“Who was it?
Did he inform the police?” Layla stopped right before him on the opposite side of the desk.
“No.
He was looking into Tsar’s whereabouts.
And in return, he received a warning note from an anonymous person.” Lucius didn’t wish to lie to Layla, but he didn’t either want her to be in stress because of this.
“Tsar is keeping an eye?” Layla exclaimed in shock while frowning.
“But how’s that possible?” “Demitri thinks someone around me is loyal to Tsar.
Someone who’s providing him all the information.
But I can’t think of anyone like that,” Lucius stated.
“Maybe it’s a time to revisit the documents of the men, who operate on your command,” Layla asserted.
“I’ll help you.
I am not sleepy anymore.
So, let’s just dive into it.” “I want you to stay out of this,” Lucius pronounced.
“Why?” Lucius turned silent.
“I’m not letting you bear this burden alone,” she replied.
Closing the distance between them, she cupped his face and peered into his blue orbs.
“Let’s begin the work.” Lucius put the diary inside the pocket of his trousers and lowered her hands from his cheeks.
“I can’t lose you.
You are the only reason I am breathing well,” he said, his eyes suddenly glistening with tears.
“Let me do it alone.
And I may probably leave for Russia soon.
However, I can’t involve you in this mission.” “If I have to become the target, then I’ll become one without being involved into your work.
I think it’s about you, Lucius, not me,” Layla proclaimed.
“You are right.
That’s why I have tightened the security around you without your knowing.
I never got into your work, so I expect the same from you,” Lucius said, not blinking even for a second.
“Fine.
Do what you feel is right,” Layla said.
She understood his concern for her and didn’t wish to burden him.
“Just make sure you don’t get harmed.
If you do, I’ll step in and stop you from everything you desire to do.
Then, you’ll have to make a choice between me and your mission.” She took a step back and left his sight.
