Lucius, Roger, and Luca arrived in Russia as planned. The moment they landed, Lucius wasted no time in contacting Varya Sokolov. True to her word, she had already arranged for her assistant to pick them up from the airport.

An hour later, they found themselves standing inside the grand Sokolov estate.

Roger leaned in close to Lucius, his voice barely above a whisper. “Boss, who exactly is Varya? You still haven’t told us much about her. And now we’re in her estate.”

Lucius kept his gaze forward. “She was an old acquaintance of Matteo. Even I don’t know much about her, except that she’s a legend in the underworld.”

Roger raised a brow, intrigued. “A legend, huh? Sounds like a real fighter.”

“She’s more than just a fighter,” Luca interjected. “She’s a trained sniper and an expert martial artist.”

Lucius and Roger turned to him, exchanging a glance before Roger asked, “And how do you know that?”

“I’ve been in Russia for eight years. I know a lot of things,” Luca stated firmly, his tone leaving no room for doubt.

The three men finally came to a halt in front of a grand white marble villa, its towering entrance exuding both elegance and authority. Without a word, the assistant led them inside. The interior was just as impressive—luxurious yet cold, like a place that had seen both power and blood.

Their steps slowed as they reached the vast living room, its high ceilings and intricate chandeliers only adding to the overwhelming presence of the estate.

The assistant turned to them, tapping the Bluetooth device in his ear before speaking. “Madam will be here shortly,” he informed them, his voice professional and devoid of emotion. “Please, have a seat.”

Just as Lucius, Roger, and Luca were about to settle onto the couch, the sharp click of heels echoed through the room. Their heads instinctively turned to the left.

Lucius and Luca immediately stepped forward, their postures straightening in silent acknowledgment. But Roger—he stood frozen, his eyes widening as if he had forgotten how to blink.

Roger was completely smitten by her beauty. While Lucius and Luca exchanged greetings with Varya, he remained utterly lost, his gaze fixed on her as if she were the only person in the room.

“Roger!” Lucius called out sharply, bringing him out of the trance.

Roger jolted, nearly jumping in place as he blinked rapidly. “Yes, Boss? I—I’m sorry. I was… lost,” he mumbled, still not fully grasping the situation.

Varya raised a perfectly arched brow, amusement flickering in her sharp, calculating eyes. “Your friend is quite clumsy, Lucius,” she remarked. Then, her expression shifted to one of scrutiny as she eyed Roger carefully. “Is he a good fighter? Do you think he’s capable enough to accompany us?” Her voice held a trace of skepticism.

Lucius didn’t hesitate even for a second. “Roger might look clumsy, but when it comes to work, he’s the most reliable man I have,” he asserted firmly.

“Hmm. Let’s take a seat then,” Varya stated, motioning toward the couch with a subtle flick of her hand.

The four of them settled into their respective seats. Varya crossed her legs gracefully and shifted her sharp gaze to Lucius.

“I want to hear your plan,” she said, pausing briefly before adding with a knowing smirk, “even though you don’t have one.”

Lucius met her gaze without hesitation. “I already have a plan,” he asserted. “In fact, Luca, Roger, and I discussed it during the flight before landing here.”

Varya arched a brow, intrigued. “Please, share,” she said. Without breaking eye contact, she gestured to one of the servants standing nearby. The man bowed slightly before moving to fetch water for their guests.

“I need to meet someone outside,” Roderick announced at the breakfast table, pushing his chair back slightly. The servants had already begun clearing the dishes.

“No one is allowed to go out,” Alekis reminded him firmly.

Fiona glanced at her son, concern evident in her expression. “Yes, don’t go anywhere until Lucius returns,” she insisted.

Roderick exhaled sharply. “But Tsar has been captured. I’ll be back in an hour.”

Layla, who had been silently observing, finally spoke, “You can’t go out. Whoever this person is, call them here or tell them you won’t be meeting today.” Then, softening slightly, she added, “Understand the situation, Rick.”

“Uncle’s mom came here without any problem,” Roderick argued, his sharp glare directed at Evelina, who had remained silent at the table. “It’s not like I’ll be attacked,” he muttered under his breath.

Layla’s patience snapped. “Rick, don’t make me lock you in your room,” she warned. “You’re not a child anymore. Vladimir Romanov hasn’t been caught, and his men are still out there. Is meeting this person more important than your life?” Her voice rose slightly, a rare display of emotion that caught everyone at the table off guard.

Roderick frowned, standing up abruptly. “Why are you suddenly acting like you care about me?”

Fiona finally intervened, seeing how her son was reacting. “Roderick, what’s this behavior?” she scolded and with her piercing gaze, she said “Apologize to Layla.”

But Roderick wasn’t in the mood to listen. He shoved his chair back and strode away, his anger palpable as he exited the room without another word.

Aiden exhaled, shaking his head. “His mood swings are pretty bad,” he muttered, then stood up. “I’ll go after him.” Without waiting for a response, he followed Roderick out.

“Layla, forgive him,” Fiona said, feeling guilty.

“Please don’t. Roderick acts like a teenage girl sometimes,” Layla murmured, “and I think I went overboard with him.”

“No, you didn’t,” Fiona said, shaking her head. “I think Roderick is suddenly acting like this because he got to know the truth of his father’s demise. He always acts like that in such situations.”

Evelina felt a pain of the mother behind those words and shd excused herself as she was feeling guilty of her past actions. Alekis noticed her strange behavior and decided to go after her.
