Chapter 323: Matteo’s Death Truth (1)
“Lucius, I’m your father,” Vladimir said with a menace. “If you kill me, do you really think you’ll find peace? You’ve spent your life avoiding bloodshed, keeping your hands clean while letting the police handle the rest. Even now, you hesitate. Do you truly believe that after taking my life, you’ll still be able to look at yourself in the mirror? No matter what you do, you can’t change the truth—you have my blood in your veins.”
Vladimir had been watching his son for months, studying his every move. Despite Lucius’s cold exterior, he knew the boy was too soft for this world. He eliminated low-life criminals, but only when necessary and always leaving the real justice to the authorities.
It was a foolish way to live in Vladimir’s eyes.
Lucius met his father’s gaze with nothing but disdain. “You’re wrong,” he said. “I’ll find peace because for this, I have already sacrificed more than you could ever understand. In fact, the only thing standing between me and peace is you.”
“You built your empire on the suffering of others. The selfish principles you live by have destroyed families, taken innocent lives, and left a trail of corpses in your wake. If you believe you’re walking out of here alive, then you’re a bigger fool than I thought, Vladimir.”
Luca stood nearby, silently observing their exchange. The weight of Lucius’s words, the hatred simmering in his voice—it made him wonder what kind of life he had truly led. But now wasn’t the time for reflection. He remained on high alert, gripping the rifle as he listened to the crackling in his Bluetooth earpiece.
“Luca, is everything alright there?” Roger’s voice came through the other end.
“Yeah. We can still hear gunfire in the distance. How many are left?” Luca asked, keeping his eyes on Lucius and Vladimir.
“We’ve taken care of everyone,” Roger replied. “We’re heading your way now.”
Luca hummed in acknowledgment, then turned back to Lucius. “We’ve won,” he said, his voice steady. “The fight is over. Should we take Vladimir in, or do you want to deliver the final judgment yourself here?”
“We will go to the mansion from where Vladimir started all of this,” Lucius said, pulling back his leg.
Finally, Vladimir took deep breaths, but the excruciating pain was unbearable. He thought he was invincible, but his one small mistake costed him everything.
“Vladimir, I’ve a surprised ready for you in the mansion. You will definitely like it before leaving this earth,” Lucius said with a smirk.

In the grand Romanov Mansion:
Lucius shoved Vladimir to the cold marble floor with a force that made the older man grunt in pain.
Without hesitation, he delivered a sharp kick to Vladimir’s stomach, indifferent to his age or weakened state.
The once-feared crime lord coughed violently, curling in on himself, but Lucius merely looked down at him with barely any sympathy.
The heavy doors of the mansion swung open, and Roger strode in, dragging another figure with him. A grin stretched across his face as he called out, “Boss, Tsar is here!” Behind them Zayne walked in.
The moment Tsar caught sight of his father sprawled on the floor, his face twisted with panic and rage. “Dad!” he cried out, struggling against Roger’s grip.
Blood dripped from a wound in Vladimir’s leg, staining the white floor beneath him.
Vladimir groaned, barely managing to lift his head as he writhed in pain beside him.
Lucius glanced at Zayne, who offered a small, knowing smile. “Thanks for bringing Tsar here,” he said.
Zayne gave a slight nod. “Luca already made the arrangements. I only did what I was asked to do, Boss.”
Lucius turned his gaze to Tsar, who looked raged. He arched a brow. “Then, shall we begin?”
Tsar gritted his teeth, glaring at him. “Lucius, you’ll regret this,” he spat. “Dad is old. You should at least consider his age. Are you really going to kill us? If yes, then kill me and let Dad live,” he pleaded.
Without warning, Lucius pulled the trigger.
The gunshot echoed through the vast mansion, and this time, the bullet tore through Vladimir’s left leg.
“Ahh!” Vladimir let out a cry, clutching his wounded leg as blood pooled beneath him. His face contorted in agony, but Lucius merely watched.
Tsar’s eyes widened in shock. “Lucius, stop—”

“No,” Lucius cut him off, his tone void of any kind of mercy. “I plan to kill you both, Tsar.” He took a step forward.
“Not long ago, you taught me how to kill without emotions, to treat life like a transaction. I’m just doing the same to your father now.” His voice dropped dangerous low. “You should have killed me that day when powerless before you and your father. But you didn’t.” He scoffed. “You thought I was weak. Now, I’ll show you what a real mafia does when things don’t go his way.”
Tsar swallowed hard, but his fear didn’t show. Instead, he lifted his chin, refusing to look away. “Are you doing all of this just because you lost Matteo?” he asked. “Wake up, Lucius! You should open your damn eyes and see who your real family is! Your mother separated us, and all we ever wanted was to bring you back where you belonged. Matteo kept lying to us. In the end, he even planned a secret attack against us!”
Lucius’s grip on the gun tightened. “And you killed him, didn’t you? Tell me, Tsar. Was it on your father’s orders? You said you would tell me the truth once I return. Now, I am in front of you and I don’t want you to leave any single detail. Start, or else, Vladimir will die before you.”
“Matteo set a trap for me in Italy, thinking he could actually kill me,” Tsar said and recalled the past as he began telling about it to Lucius.
“Listen carefully why Matteo died,” he added.
**Flashback Started**
Four Years Ago
Matteo sat behind his mahogany desk. His sharp eyes scanned the last page of the file in his hands before he placed it back on the table with a thud.
Leaning back in his chair, he exhaled, letting his gaze drift toward the photo frame sitting beside a stack of neatly arranged documents.
It was a picture of them—Lucius, himself, and Demitri—from their high school graduation day. The three of them stood side by side, dressed in their caps and gowns, with youthful smiles.
Matteo picked up the frame, his fingers grazing the glass as he studied their faces. A soft, almost wistful smile tugged at his lips.
Matteo’s fingers tightened around the photo frame as he spoke softly, almost as if Lucius could hear him through the frozen moment in time.
“Lucius, forgive me for keeping the truth from you all this time. But this is what Antoine also wanted. I will always protect you, my friend. I am going to end Tsar Romanov and his father. I will tell you the truth once I achieve this last mission.”
His words lingered in the room before his phone suddenly rang, breaking the silence. Matteo placed the frame back on the desk and picked up his phone, his eyes narrowing when he saw the caller ID. It was from Xander Carter, his most trusted aide in Russia.
Bringing the phone to his ear, Matteo answered, “Yes?”
“Tsar isn’t in Russia. I heard he left urgently in the afternoon,” Xander reported.
Matteo’s brows knitted together. “What?” He straightened up, his grip on the phone tightening. “Are you sure, Xander?”
“Yes. I am 100% sure, Boss.”
Just then, a loud gunshot echoed through the call.
Matteo shot up from his chair, “Xander!” he shouted, but the line abruptly went dead.
A heavy silence followed. Matteo slowly lowered the phone, his jaw clenched.
“Fuck,” he muttered under his breath, gripping the device so tightly that his knuckles turned white. Something was wrong. Terribly wrong.
He grabbed the keys of his car and went out of the mansion. As he stepped into the car, his phone rang for the second time.
This time Tsar’s name was deflecting on the screen. Matteo answered the call and brought it to his ear.
“Come to the place where we both first met. If you won’t, your friend is dead,” Tsar pronounced from the other side of the call.
“Don’t touch my friend,” Matteo said sternly, his eyes narrowing in anger.
“I won’t. Seems like, he is on a date with someone,” Tsar stated.
Matteo immediately recalled that Lucius had told him that he would go to meet his date, which his father had set for him. He feared that Tsar would harm him, so he quickly said, “I’ll be there in thirty minutes.”
Matteo hung up the call and his heart pounded against his chest. He knew the fatal consequences, but to save Lucius he decided to go alone to meet Tsar.
“Nothing will happen to Lucius. I can bring down Tsar,” Matteo muttered to himself and drove off.
