Chapter 329: Enjoy it like this
As Lucius walked into the room while rubbing the towel in his damp hair, he found Layla setting the table with the breakfast meals. He was over the moon to see her and let the towel rest on the chair.
Walking to her, Lucius wrapped her both arms around her from behind after she stood straight and buried his face in the crook of her neck.
“Lucius,” she whispered his name like a prayer and he did the same, “Layla.”
“You made it,” she said turning around to face him, her hands moving to his shoulders.
“All because of you,” he answered.
“And the others too,” Layla stated.
“Yes.” Lucius nodded at her. “Let’s have the breakfast then. I am famished,” he said with a smile.
The two of them were quick to sit on the couch and enjoyed the meal together. “Now, go to bed and sleep. I’ll take them downstairs,” Layla instructed him while collecting the dishes on the tray.
“I can help you,” Lucius insisted, but she refused him plainly.
“No. Go to bed. You need a good rest, Lucius,” she reminded him.
“All right,” Lucius went back to the bed while Layla headed downstairs to the kitchen. The maid took the tray from her, telling her she would do the dishes.
“Thank you,” Layla said with a smile. “Did the others have their meals?” she then inquired.
“Yes, Madam,” the same maid replied.
Layla smiled and walked out of the kitchen. She saw Roderick in the living room on a phone with someone. He hung it up as his eyes landed on Layla.
“I can go out, right?” asked Roderick.
“Hmm.”
“Uncle is better, right? Is he sleeping now?”
“Yep. I asked him to take some rest,” she replied.
“Great. I’ll talk to him later then. See you later.” Roderick walked ahead and disappeared from her sight soon.
“Everything has returned to the track finally,” Demitri’s voice came through the opposite side and Layla turned around. He had walked to her and continued, “I will also leave for my house later in the evening. I must say Layla you have brightened not only Lucius’s life but everyone around him. You are great.”
“I feel it’s the opposite, Demitri. Before meeting Lucius and all of you, my life was dull and miserable,” she explained in the briefest words. “Exclude Roderick from it,” she added.
Demitri laughed to hear that. “So, what’s the future plan now? A good vacation is all you and Lucius need. He was really in his lowest after getting through all of this. Matteo and Antoine did everything to save him,” he asserted.
“Yeah.”
“You should go upstairs,” said Demitri.
“How are you feeling, Demitri? Matteo was your friend too,” Layla wanted to know if Demitri was living without regrets.
“I helped Demitri to meet Tsar. I feel guilty about that. His death could have been stopped if only I had told Lucius,” Demitri said, revealing what he regretted the most.
“You didn’t know the truth, Demitri. Matteo wanted the two of you safe. Lucius told me on the phone. Tsar knew about you and Lucius. He knew you both were his friends. Matteo wanted to save you too as much as he wanted to save Lucius. We cannot change the past, so let’s just pray for Matteo’s soul,” Layla answered.
Demitri nodded his head and after a moment, Layla left for the bedroom.

Roderick exited the car and looked around to spot Ivy. Bringing the phone to his ear, he dialed Ivy’s number, which she answered immediately.

“To your left.”
He lowered the phone and turned to the direction from where Ivy was present. They walked to each other and finally stopped.
“Turns out everything has turned better,” Ivy said.
“Yes. Uncle has returned safely from Russia,” Roderick replied.
“That’s good to hear. I didn’t disturb you, did I?” asked Ivy.
“Not at all. I was the one, who called you to meet up,” Roderick asserted and slid his hand into the pocket of his trousers. “I was bored being locked in the mansion for a few days. When you called me if I would be willing to join you, I couldn’t resist myself from accompanying you.”
Ivy laughed at his statement. “You were that desperate to leave your house,” she chuckled.
“Hmm. It was a tense atmosphere at home,” Roderick stated and the two of them began walking on the sideway.
“But you mentioned on the phone that it’s for your safety,” Ivy reminded him.
“Yes. How’s your mother doing now?” Roderick questioned.
“She’s better now. The tests came normal,” Ivy replied. “I’m trying to find a way to tell her why you and I cannot be together,” she asserted.
“You said your father’s company isn’t doing well. Do you think your parents be happy about your decision?” Roderick raised his eyebrow at her.
“I will be gentle this time while explaining to them. They may understand me,” Ivy murmured.
“They may not,” Roderick replied.
“Why do you think like that?” Ivy wanted to know his opinion.
“You are their only daughter. They want you to settle in a good family. My grandpa was the one, who came to your house with a proposal,” Roderick explained the situation to her. “Even if you tell them you don’t want it, they will insist on you to stay.”
“Then, what should I do? I don’t wish to take more of your time,” Ivy asserted. “I mean it’s all fake and I know it can affect your future too. You may want to date someone and if she sees me with you, she may think of us wrongly. I know telling my parents is going to be difficult, but I’ll eventually make them understand.”
“Ivy, when I will date someone, I’ll tell you. For now, I don’t have any plans for any kind of commitment,” Roderick stated. “So, enjoy it like this. Your parents will be happy too that way,” he asserted.
Ivy stared at him in disbelief. Was it the same Roderick whom she used to curse in the beginning? He had transformed his personality to someone tolerant.
“Look over there. They are selling cupcakes. Shall we try some?” Roderick asked, pointing toward a cart.
“Is it okay to taste something from the roadside?” Ivy questioned, unsure whether she wanted to refuse for it or not.
“Of course!” Roderick said. “Why? Don’t you like it?” he raised his eyebrows.
“Umm… Kind of,” Ivy answered. “You can try that,” she asserted.
“Leave it,” Roderick said.
“Rick, I have one more thing to tell you,” Ivy said.
“Hmm?” Roderick tilted his head to gaze at her.
“Elliot is getting married,” Ivy revealed the news to him.
“What?” Roderick exclaimed in shock and knitted his brows together. “When did you find out?” he questioned.
“Just a few days ago,” Ivy replied. “They got engaged and the marriage is next month,” she asserted.
Roderick stopped walking and so did Ivy.
“But I’m fine,” Ivy said.
“No, you aren’t,” Roderick replied. “You should have told me,” he added.
“I felt it wasn’t important,” Ivy murmured. “I realized not everyone’s first love is nice to them. I never once turned disloyal to Elliot in our relationship. Seems like he never had plans to marry me. Only I was the one, who laid plans for our dream wedding.” Her eyes filled with tears, but she didn’t let them fall.
Roderick realized even Layla must have felt the same when he cheated on her or even worst. He felt more guilty of his actions and realized why Layla could never forgive him.
“Elliot was never meant for you, Ivy. It’s better you got saved from getting married with a jerk,” Roderick remarked.
Ivy ended up laughing lightly.
“Well, I’m a jerk too. Or even worse than Elliot. He, at least, didn’t cheat on you and broke up first,” Roderick stated.
“Still, I hate him for breaking my heart like this. He fooled me for a long time,” Ivy stated.
“Hmm. You have all the right to hate him,” Roderick asserted.
“Thank you for saying that,” Ivy said. “I truly hate him for playing with me all this time. While I had such strong feelings for him, he had nothing for me. Just a casual fling perhaps,” she added with frustration.
“Then, stop thinking about him. Don’t let him dwell your thoughts anymore and move on. You can explore new things now. If you want to date someone, then you can do that or if you want to focus on your job, then that would be great too. You can decide on that but just throw Elliot out of your mind,” Roderick advised her.
“Hmm. You are right,” Ivy replied. “I wanted to meet Layla. Do tell me when she will get free,” she asked for a favor.
“Sure,” Roderick replied, not asking her why she wanted to see Layla.
“Rick, that night in the hotel, you were vulnerable. I hope you find peace,” Ivy suddenly said. “I mean, you need to move on from that. You can do it, I feel.”
“Hmm. I need to,” Roderick stated with a determined gaze. “I have to prove myself.”
