Chapter 330: Your wife’s kindness
Lucius pulled Layla down onto the bed, wrapping his arms around her as he rested his face against her chest. His warm breath fanned over her skin, making her fingers instinctively tangle in his soft tresses, caressing them gently.
“Lucius, what are you doing?” she murmured, feeling the weight of his body pressing against hers.
“Doesn’t it feel good this way?” he asked, his voice laced with drowsiness.
Layla smiled softly. “Yes. Do you need more sleep?”
“Only if you sleep with me,” he replied, his eyes still closed, his grip on her tightening slightly.
She sighed, amusement flickering in her eyes. “Father and the others are still here. We need to see them off before they leave for their respective places. Even Demitri has decided to move out today.”
Lucius groaned lightly but eventually lifted his head, his golden eyes locking onto hers. “Then, let’s go,” he murmured, reluctantly pulling away. But as he helped her sit up, he leaned in close, his lips brushing against her ear. “After they leave, we’re coming straight back to bed—unless you’re hungry,” he whispered in a teasing tone.
Layla hummed in response, a small smile gracing her lips. With that, they left the room and made their way downstairs.
In the living room, Alekis and Fiona had just finished their tea. Their luggage was already packed and neatly placed by the door. Seeing Lucius and Layla, they both stood up with warm smiles.
“Dad,” Lucius spoke, stepping forward to embrace Alekis. “Thank you for everything… for standing by me.”
Alekis returned the hug, his firm hand patting Lucius’s back. “No more hiding things, son,” he advised in a meaningful tone.
Lucius pulled away slightly, meeting his father’s gaze. A small nod was his only response, but it held unspoken understanding. “I understand,” he murmured.
Nearby, Fiona reached for Layla’s arm, gently caressing it. “Take care of yourself and Lucius,” she said warmly before turning her head, calling out for Roderick, who had yet to appear.
“I think Roderick wants to stay another night,” Lucius mused with a knowing smirk.
“No,” came Roderick’s voice from the hallway, deep and unwavering. A moment later, he stepped into the living room, pulling a sleek trolley bag behind him. His usual casual smirk played on his lips as he let go of the handle and walked straight up to Lucius. Without hesitation, he pulled his uncle into a tight embrace.
“Forgive me for blaming you all these years,” Roderick muttered in his unusually solemn voice.
Lucius didn’t hesitate. “I’ve already forgiven you,” he replied smoothly, giving his nephew’s back a reassuring pat.
As Roderick stepped back, the group slowly made their way outside. A black car awaited them by the entrance, the chauffeur standing by its door. Lucius ensured his father settled into the backseat comfortably before shifting his gaze to Fiona. She gave him a final nod before stepping into the car as well.
Roderick hesitated for a brief moment, then turned to Lucius. “Uncle, don’t hide anything from Layla anymore. She saved you. You should be grateful to her.” His gaze sharpened. “And I don’t like seeing my uncle afraid. You’re supposed to be the one instilling fear in others, not the other way around.”
Lucius smirked faintly, appreciating Roderick’s blunt honesty. “You’re right. Now, get in. It’s already late.”
Roderick didn’t argue. With one last glance at Lucius and Layla, he climbed into the car. Once the door was shut, Lucius signaled the driver and bodyguard to proceed. Layla, standing beside him, gave a final wave as the car disappeared down the long driveway.
As the night settled around them, another presence stepped forward. Demitri, carrying his own luggage, stood at the entrance.
Lucius turned to him, raising an eyebrow. “So, you’re really leaving tonight?”
Demitri nodded, gripping the handle of his suitcase. “It’s time for me to leave as well.”
Layla exchanged a glance with Lucius before shifting her gaze to Demitri.
“You could have stayed the night here,” Lucius remarked, glancing at Demitri.
Demitri shrugged with a small smirk. “Yeah, I could have. But I think it’s better if I head back home. My grandmother is visiting tomorrow, and I need to clean up before she arrives.” He adjusted the strap of his bag before adding, “She’ll probably ask about you and Layla. So, if you two have time to drop by, I’d appreciate it.”
Lucius nodded without hesitation. “Of course, we’ll come. Just let us know when.”
“I’ll ring you up tomorrow,” Demitri assured him.
“Sounds good. And… thanks for everything,” Lucius said. “The device you gave me helped me more than I can say. You really are a genius.”

Demitri chuckled. “Well, thank you.” He hugged Lucius and waved at Layla before stepping into the waiting car.
“Boss, I’ll drop Demitri at his house,” Aiden suddenly chimed in, appearing from behind with his usual nonchalant air.
Lucius glanced at him and nodded. “Yeah, go ahead.”
Aiden settled into the passenger’s seat. Meanwhile, a maid approached Layla, handing her a bag with a neatly packed tiffin box inside. Without hesitation, Layla walked toward the car, opening the backseat door where Demitri sat.
She ducked her head inside, her gaze meeting his. “This is for your dinner. Freshly prepared. Make sure to enjoy it,” she said warmly.
Demitri’s lips curled into a small smirk as he accepted the bag. “Thanks, Layla.”
“You’re welcome,” she responded with a soft smile, pulling back from the car.
Lucius, who had been standing beside her, casually rested his hand on the top of the car, ensuring she wouldn’t bump her head as she stepped away. Layla tilted her head slightly at his thoughtful gesture, taking a step back. Once she was clear, Lucius closed the door and moved aside.
The driver started the engine, and within moments, the car pulled away, disappearing soon. Lucius and Layla stood there for a moment before turning back toward the house.
Lucius draped his arm around Layla’s shoulder, pulling her close as they walked back inside. Their steps slowed when they entered the living room, where they spotted Luca sitting on the couch.
“Oh, Luca, when did you wake up?” Layla asked.
Luca blinked sluggishly, tilting his head as if still caught between sleep and wakefulness. His tousled hair and drowsy eyes made it clear he had just woken up.
He let out a small yawn before rubbing his eyes, looking up at them in mild confusion.
“Just a while ago. Can you make me some tea, Layla?” Luca asked.
“Sure,” Layla replied with a small smile. She gently pulled away from Lucius’s hold and made her way to the kitchen.
Lucius took a seat across from Luca, eyeing him with mild concern. “You should’ve slept a little longer,” he remarked.
Luca shook his head, running a hand through his tousled hair. “I’ve had enough sleep,” he murmured. He stretched his arms before bringing a hand to the back of his neck, massaging it with a wince. “My whole body aches. I think I’ll go to a sauna soon.”
Lucius smirked, giving him a thumbs-up. “That’s a good idea.”
Luca exhaled deeply, leaning back against the couch. “I’ll be leaving tomorrow,” he then announced.
Lucius’s expression shifted slightly. “So soon?” He hesitated before asking, “By the way, what’s next for you? I mean, now that you’ve resigned from your job, what will you do?”
“Umm… I’ll just wander around the city for a while,” Luca murmured, stretching his arms lazily. “Layla said she’d take care of me if I ever had to leave my job.”
Lucius furrowed his brows. “What do you mean?” he asked, confused.
Luca smirked, leaning forward. “She offered to give me a job. Though I have a huge family fortune—and my own wealth—I think I’ll take advantage of your wife’s kindness and let her employ me. I can do that, right?”
Lucius let out a small chuckle. “Of course! So, do you want to work in the company?”
“Not right now,” Luca replied, tilting his head. “But I’ll let you know when I decide.”
Lucius nodded thoughtfully. “Hmm.”
A moment of silence passed before Luca spoke again, his tone shifting slightly. “Your mother… she’s someone I could never get on my radar. I must say, she’s very good at hiding.”
Lucius’s expression remained neutral. “I don’t mind it. She is indeed skilled at disappearing when she wants to.”
Luca exhaled, rubbing his temple. “Antoine’s accident was another high-profile case, one that headquarters assigned me to solve. Turns out, you were also digging for the truth,” he muttered.
“Yeah.”
“I heard from your friends a lot about your state,” Luca then said. “It must be hard to live like that. I shouldn’t be saying this because I’ve no idea what you underwent. However, keep in mind. We don’t have any hold on the lives. Some things are inevitable to happen. I have lost too many people, including my own colleagues while carrying out missions. But life is like that. You need to live it till your last breath,” he explained.
Lucius nodded his head. “Yeah. I will do that.”
