Chapter 335: It’s snowfall!
Demitri woke up from his drowsy state in the evening, stretching slightly before getting out of bed. After freshening up, he made his way downstairs, only to stop in his tracks at the unexpected sight before him.
His eyes widened in surprise as he spotted Nora still sitting in the living room. He had assumed she would have left long ago.
“Sorry, I slept longer than usual today,” he said, rubbing the back of his neck. “I’ll drop you home now.”
Before Nora could respond, Alessia walked in from the lawn, still wearing her gardening gloves. She casually removed them, her expression calm yet firm.
“I already spoke to Nora’s uncle. She’s staying the night here,” she announced.
Demitri blinked, completely caught off guard. “What?” he asked, staring at his grandmother in bewilderment. His gaze flickered to Nora, who only fiddled with her fingers.
Demitri held the arm of his grandmother and took her aside.
“Grandma, what’s this?” Demitri asked. “You can’t ask anyone to spend the night here. Also, she may find it uncomfortable, no?”
“But she seems fine with my suggestion. Do you even know how far she lives? And I’ve visited you after such a long time. Can’t you respect your grandma’s choice? Nora knows me. She used to come by the farm when she was young,” Alessia asserted.
“Grandma, she needs to go to the office tomorrow,” Demitri argued.
“It’s Sunday tomorrow,” Alessia replied.
“Still, Grandma, you shouldn’t have done it,” Demitri murmured, pinching the skin between his brows.
They both returned to the living room, where Nora was present.
Demitri didn’t say anything and went ahead to the kitchen. Taking out a water bottle from the refrigerator, he uncapped it and drank the water.
“Why do I feel my grandmother is trying to set me up?” he mumbled, placing the bottle on the counter.

After finishing their shopping, Lucius and Layla finally settled into a fine restaurant for dinner.
Layla twirled her fork into the plate of noodles, carefully gathering a bite when Lucius spoke up.
“Roderick is finally doing well at work,” he said, a note of satisfaction in his voice. “He’s starting to take real interest in his tasks instead of looking for shortcuts to reach his goals.”
Layla’s lips curled into a pleased smile. “That’s wonderful,” she responded before bringing the fork to her mouth. As she chewed, she noticed that Lucius looked like he had more on his mind.
She set her fork down slightly and tilted her head. “What is it?” she asked, watching him closely.
Lucius let out a small breath, as if debating how to put his thoughts into words. “Roderick thanked me, Layla,” he finally admitted. “I think there were a lot of things he couldn’t say to my face, so he left me a voice note last night.” He hesitated before adding, “He sounded drunk, but… hearing those words brought me so much peace.”
Layla observed the relief in his expression.
Lucius leaned back in his chair, his fingers lightly tracing the rim of the water glass as he continued.
“He said I was always a wonderful uncle to him,” he revealed. “And he truly regrets hurting me all this time. He even apologized for asking me to leave Dad’s house… He said he regrets blaming me for everything.”
Layla watched him closely, her heart softening at his words. She could see the weight lifting off his shoulders.
“That means Roderick is finally growing,” she whispered, a small, knowing smile forming on her lips.
Lucius hummed in agreement, nodding slightly. A thoughtful silence settled between them before he spoke again.
“I should meet my doctor too.”
Layla raised a brow. “Dr. Edward?”

“Yes,” Lucius confirmed. “He helped me a lot, but I never got the chance to thank him. I just walked away from my therapy sessions without a word. I never explained why I couldn’t cope with my brother’s and friend’s deaths… or what I truly wanted.”
Layla reached for the water glass, taking a sip before replying, “Sure. But tomorrow is Sunday. I don’t think you’ll find Dr. Edward at the clinic.”
“Yes, but I’ll give him a call and visit his house instead,” Lucius stated firmly, as if he had already made up his mind.
“That’s good too,” Layla replied.
Once they finished eating, they left the restaurant. However, instead of entering the car, they simply decided to walk for a while. Lucius had held Layla’s hand warmly, their fingers intertwining together.
“Layla, thank you for coming into my life. I seriously can’t imagine my life without you,” Lucius said.
“Yet, you wanted to leave me,” Layla tilted her head, gazing at him sharply.
“I’m sorry about that,” Lucius muttered. “I’m truly sorry. My mind had been shut off completely. I was such a fool to not understand that you could see through me. In that tree house you kept asking me, yet I lied repeatedly,” he added and the two of them stopped.
“You didn’t tell me who was that friend of yours,” Lucius muttered as he brushed the few strands of hair from her temple and cheek.
“It was Luca’s place,” Layla replied.
“What?” Lucius exclaimed in shock. “You knew his place. How? He was in Russia for eight years. Did you perhaps go to his house when you were underage? How could you believe any man like that, Layla? It’s not wise to go alone anywhere with any unknown man,” he lectured her.
“Lucius, I didn’t go with him there when I was in school,” Layla stated. “Four years ago he was here. He called me about attending a funeral, but I didn’t know it was Matteo’s funeral. He then asked me if I could meet him. But it happened the next day before I saw you. I met him in his farmhouse then. He wasn’t looking good that day,” she explained to him. “And then, he gave me permission to come by his place whenever I desire. He even gave me a pair of keys for his house. But they are in my maternal home.”
“I see,” Lucius hummed in understanding.
“Woah! It’s snowfall!” Layla suddenly screamed in joy and extended her hand out as the tiny snow flakes began to land on the earth.
