Chapter 341: Never live well
Ivy watched the entire wedding happening between Elliot and Julie. That smile Elliot wore looked so genuine. She couldn’t fathom how he could fake that same smile before her.
As the reception came to an end, Ivy decided to leave with Roderick. However, Elliot spotted her and excused herself for a moment. He couldn’t believe his eyes that his ex decided to attend his marriage. But how was that possible? Who made Ivy enter there?
Elliot reached the entrance of the hall. He glanced at both Roderick and Ivy before sweeping his eyes across the hall to make sure no one would see them.
“What are you doing here?” Elliot asked Ivy.
“Your wife invited me,” Ivy said, not leaving his gaze.
“Julie did?” Elliot furrowed his brows together. “Still, you shouldn’t have come here,” he whispered.
“Why? You married another woman in just a few weeks after our breakup. Seems like I was just a timepass for you,” Ivy stated.
“Oh, Ivy made it to the wedding!” Julie’s voice reached their ears and she approached them. She hooked her arm around Elliot’s and continued, “Come. Click some pictures with us. Elliot and I want to remember you for a long time.”
“I don’t want to waste my pictures on a trash couple,” Ivy pronounced. Taking out the envelope from the clutch, she gave it to Elliot and said, “Congratulations on getting married. I hope you two never live well.”
She cursed them and walked out of the hall in anger.
“How dare she give us such a curse?” Julie muttered and glanced at Roderick.
Roderick didn’t say a word to them and simply followed Ivy.
“You shouldn’t have called Ivy here,” Elliot told Julie and went to the other direction in the same hall.
Julie rolled her eyes as if she didn’t care and went the opposite direction.
Outside, Roderick stopped Ivy by grabbing her arm gently. She didn’t look at him but elsewhere in the hotel’s lobby.
“You forgot your coat inside,” Roderick said and hung it on her shoulders.
Without another word, Roderick grasped her hand, guiding her toward the entrance. The chauffeur, having anticipated their departure, pulled up the car. Roderick took the keys from him, slipping a tip into his palm before opening the car door for Ivy.
The two of them got in when Roderick heard Ivy say, “I want to drink.”
“No. We are going straight to your home. You can have a drink party at home,” Roderick opined.
“I’m not jesting,” Ivy said, her eyes brimming with tears.
Roderick met her gaze. “It’s cold outside. The sudden snowfall has dropped the temperature even more. I have a better idea—go home and get some sleep. You say Elliot doesn’t matter to you anymore, but you’re still unable to let him go.”
Ivy let out a bitter laugh, leaning back against the seat. “I loved him, okay? That’s why it’s hard to let go. You wouldn’t understand… You’ve never even loved anyone.”
A moment of silence settled between them. Realizing what she had just said, Ivy turned her head toward him, regret flashing across her face. “Sorry… I didn’t mean to hurt you,” she murmured, her voice softer now.
“I don’t mind,” Roderick replied.
Ivy frowned slightly. “Why? You should scold me for acting so weird.”
He glanced at her briefly before turning his eyes back to the road. “Are you a kid that I need to scold you?” he asked, his words carrying a hint of amusement. “I’ll drop you home.”
“I don’t want to go home,” Ivy admitted, looking out the window as if searching for an escape. Then, hesitantly she said, “Take me to the hotel where you usually stay. Please.”
Roderick didn’t say anything, but after a brief pause, he started the engine and pulled onto the road. Without another word, he drove them toward their family hotel.
It didn’t take them long to arrive at the hotel. Roderick handled the check-in effortlessly, and soon, they were in his usual suite.
As Ivy took off her coat and sat on the couch, Roderick turned to her. “Should I order dinner?” he asked.

Ivy opened her mouth to refuse, but before she could, her stomach betrayed her with a loud growl.
Roderick arched a brow but didn’t comment. Instead, he picked up the landline and called room service, placing their order without waiting for her response. Once he was done, he set the receiver down and leaned against the desk, watching Ivy.
“Tell your parents you won’t be home,” Roderick said as he leaned against the desk.
“I already did before I left home,” Ivy muttered. “I knew I couldn’t go back tonight.”
Before Roderick could respond, he saw the first tear slip down her cheek. Then another. And another.
He hadn’t expected her to break down so suddenly.
For a moment, he simply watched, unsure if he should say anything. Then, without a word, he walked over and sat beside her. Gently, he placed a hand on her shoulder, offering her a silent gesture of comfort.
Ivy didn’t look up. She covered her eyes with her hands while shoulders trembled as she wept. She didn’t hold back the pain she had bottled up for so long, letting it spill freely in the form of tears.
Roderick didn’t try to stop her. He knew there were no words that could fix what she was feeling. So he simply sat there, letting her cry as much as she wanted.
A few minutes passed before the doorbell rang, breaking the silence.
Roderick gave her a brief glance before standing up. “I’ll get it.”
He walked over to the door and opened it, pulling in the food trolley.
“I’ll wash my face. You should set up the table,” Ivy whispered and dashed toward the bathroom.
Roderick sighed while feeling down and he began placing the dishes on the table. “I hope she gets out of this soon,” he mumbled. His mind again drifted him to the time when he betrayed Layla.
