Chapter 346: Can we meet?
The next morning,
Ivy was the first to wake up and opened her eyes slowly. Her head was throbbing with pain as her eyes landed on Roderick’s back toward her. She pulled back her arm, realising she was hugging him to sleep.
Ivy quietly moved her arm back and slowly sat up, careful enough not to disturb his sleep. She ran her fingers through her hair, tightly shutting her eyes, recalling what she was blabbering last night.
‘I need to stop clinging to him. He has his own life,’ she thought and brought her knees together to rest her head over them. She remained in that position, contemplating how quick things changed in her life when Roderick turned around in his sleep.
She looked at his face from this angle. After a moment, she brought down her hand to his face and traced the bridge of his nose using her finger.
‘What am I doing?’ Ivy thought and curled her finger back. However, it was too late. Roderick had stirred wake from his sleep and his eyes met hers. She promptly brought her hand to her lap as she lowered her knees.
Roderick rubbed his eyes and asked, “How are you feeling?”
“My head is aching,” Ivy replied, “but it’s bearable.”
“Hmm. Let’s go then,” Roderick said and pushed away the duvet before sitting up.
“I’m sorry for the last night,” Ivy apologized. “I was out of mind.”
“It’s fine. I knew you were drunk,” Roderick said.
“Why are you so good to me? You weren’t like this before. I mean… That was not your nature,” Ivy said, waiting for his response.
“I’m learning to be a better human thanks to someone,” Roderick replied while referring to Layla. “I’ll drop you home. Grab your things,” he stated.
“Roderick, I have to say something.” The serious expression on her face made him frown.
“I will tell my parents that I am not ready for any kind of relationship. I’m truly sorry for asking you to fake it for my sake. I don’t want to hurt you. I mean… I think my involvement with you can stop you from exploring the other options,” Ivy asserted, regret filling her eyes as she kept using Roderick without giving him anything in return.
“I told you to use me for a while. I’m not seeing anyone,” Roderick said.
“I know. But, I feel it is wrong,” Ivy asserted.
In that moment, Roderick recalled his uncle’s words. To try once with all his heart to take this relationship forward.
Roderick shifted closer to her, their faces merely a few inches apart. “Then, let’s try to be serious. What do you say?”
“Hmm? You mean… You wish to date me?” Ivy asked to confirm.
“Yeah. I know you don’t desire for any relationship. But I know you family won’t stop. You know the reason. You want to move on, then how about moving on with this relationship?” Roderick asked. “We don’t need to act like a couple suddenly. We can try to know each other in a better way,” he opined.
Ivy stared into his eyes in disbelief. Her parents were looking forward for her marriage with Roderick.
“You can take your time. You don’t need to answer me immediately,” Roderick said with a smile and got down from the bed. “I’ll be outside in a moment. You should wait for me in the living area,” he said.
Ivy hummed and quickly went out of the room. As she reached the living area, her eyes glued to the spot where she and Roderick were seated for a while.
‘Just give me one kiss.’
Ivy recalled the sudden request she had made and she cursed herself for losing her mind. Her eyes then landed on the table with many alcohol bottles and she gulped. “I drank more than him,” she murmured. Shaking her head off, she wore the thick coat and picked up her clutch from the couch.
Roderick returned soon enough and they both left the hotel.

Arriving at his own house, Roderick got curious gazes from both his grandfather and mother.
“Is something wrong on my face?” Roderick questioned.

“Were you with Ivy last night?” Fiona asked.
“Yes,” Roderick replied. “But it’s not what you two are thinking,” he explained.
Fiona grabbed the newspaper from the table and said, “Your picture was clicked with her last night. You two went for a wedding, right?”
Roderick was shocked to learn that and walked to the couch hurriedly. He read the headline and pinched the skin between his brows.
“Seems like you two are ready to marry each other,” Alekis spoke finally.
“No. Not yet, Grandpa,” Roderick quickly replied.
“What? Why? You two are dating for almost two months,” Fiona replied.
“But we need more time to understand and know about each other,” Roderick said. “Anyways I’m getting late for the work. I’ll see you both later.” He rushed upstairs to his room, avoiding their further questions which they could have asked him.
“Father, aren’t these both acting weird? Last time I talked to Ivy, she also told me they both needed more time,” Fiona said.
“Kids these days need more time,” Alekis answered. “Let them walk on their own pace. I am sure they will find the answers soon,” he asserted.
“Hmm.” Fiona nodded her head.
Meanwhile, in the room, Roderick undressed and headed to the shower. Under the warm water, he thought, ‘I wonder if Ivy will walk away from me. She’s aware of my last, especially the truth of hurting and cheating on Layla. I shouldn’t have asked her out knowing the fact that I don’t deserve her.’
After a while, he turned off the shower and slipped into a bathrobe. He brushed his teeth, dried his hair and exited the bedroom. Heading to the closet, he wore a three-piece suit with a Khaki coat and left the house without having the breakfast.
As he slid into the car, his phone buzzed and he checked the message.
“Can we meet?”
Roderick frowned to read that message. It was from Orabela.
