Chapter 352: We deserve a little fun
Demitri arrived at the office in the afternoon and made his way directly to the reception desk. Nora was engrossed in her work, her fingers swiftly moving over the keyboard, when the sound of someone clearing their throat caught her attention. She lifted her head and was met with Demitri’s familiar presence. Offering him a polite smile, she greeted him professionally.
“How may I assist you, sir?” she asked, maintaining a formal tone.
Demitri’s brows furrowed slightly. “Don’t call me ‘sir,'” he said with mild displeasure.
“You hold a higher rank than me,” Nora replied.
Demitri chuckled, shaking his head. “Are we in the military?”
She gave him a small smile but chose not to argue.
“Do you have any free time after work?” he asked.
“I do. Why?” Nora inquired, tilting her head slightly.
“Umm… my grandmother wants me to bring you home,” he admitted, rubbing the back of his neck. “She’s grown quite fond of you. But more than that… she wants us to be together.” He let his words linger before adding, “Finish your work first. Then we can talk about it. How does that sound?”
Nora studied him for a moment before she finally nodded. “Sure.”
A small smile tugged at Demitri’s lips. “Thanks,” he said before turning away and heading toward the elevator.
As soon as he was gone, Maya, the other receptionist who had been watching their conversation unfold, walked up to Nora with a curious glance.
“How do you know Demitri?” Maya asked, lowering her voice slightly. “He’s close friends with the company’s director and even the chairwoman,” she added, her eyes gleaming with intrigue.
Nora gathered the stack of documents she had just prepared, keeping her response simple. “My uncle knows his grandmother. That’s how we got acquainted.” She straightened the papers in her hands and continued, “I need to deliver these to Manager Charles.” Without waiting for another question, she stepped toward the elevator, pressing the button for the sixth floor.
As the doors closed, Maya folded her arms, whispering to herself, “Nora is so mysterious… and Demitri spoke to her as if they were old friends.”
Her curiosity got the better of her, and she quickly pulled out her phone, opening a private chat group where she and a few colleagues often shared office gossip. Without hesitation, she began typing, eager to spread the latest news.
By the time Nora returned from the sixth floor, Maya had returned to her work, acting as though nothing had happened.
Nora settled back at her desk, opening her mailbox on the desktop when Maya suddenly spoke up.
“Nora, we’re all going out for drinks this evening after work,” Maya announced. “Everyone’s agreed—it’s been a long week, and we deserve a little fun.”
Nora hesitated before replying, “Ahh… I already have plans this evening.”
Maya frowned slightly before suggesting, “How about tomorrow, then?”
Nora smiled apologetically. “That would be better.”
Maya let out a small sigh, tapping her pen against the desk. “Well, we’re your seniors, Nora. Keep that in your mind. I’ll check with the others and see if they’re available tomorrow,” she said, before returning to her work.
“Hmm.” Nora didn’t want to upset her colleagues. It had barely been a month since she started this job, and if she kept declining their invitations a lot of times, it might create unnecessary distance between her and them. She knew how important workplace relationships were, so after a moment of thought, she took out her phone and typed a message to Demitri.
“My colleagues want me to join them for drinks this evening. Can you let your grandmother know that I’ll visit her tomorrow instead?”
She hit send and waited for his response.
Meanwhile, Demitri was with Roger, listening to him talk when his phone buzzed in his pocket. Taking it out, he glanced at the screen before typing a quick reply.
“Sure. Have fun.”
Roger, who had been mid-conversation, noticed and immediately narrowed his eyes. “Who are you texting?” he asked, his sharp tone making Demitri lock his phone and slip it back into his pocket. “You weren’t even listening to me, were you?”
“I was,” Demitri replied smoothly. “Sylvia caused a scene last night, and you’re upset about it.”

Roger scoffed. “I’m not upset.”
“Then what’s the problem?” Demitri asked, leaning back slightly. “Just ignore her. Honestly, I don’t waste my time on women who blame others for their own problems.” He paused before adding, “Even back then, I always kept my distance from her.”
Roger exhaled heavily, considering his words. “You’re right,” he murmured after a moment.
Back at the reception desk, Nora checked her phone and saw Demitri’s reply. A small sense of relief washed over her, and she immediately turned to Maya.
“Maya, I can come for drinks this evening,” she informed her.
Maya, who had been busy sorting files, looked up in surprise. “What? Really? What about your plans?”
“They got canceled for some reason,” Nora replied casually.
Maya grinned. “That’s great! It’ll be fun,” she said excitedly. “I’ll let the others know you’re coming.”
As Maya sent messages to their colleagues, Nora leaned back slightly in her chair, hoping that her decision to join them would help strengthen her bond with the team.
Finally, the lunch hour arrived.
“Nora, please send these files to their respective departments. I need to go over some other work related to the upcoming event next week,” Brian said, placing a stack of documents in front of her.
“Okay,” Nora replied, quickly glancing through the files before heading toward the elevator.
By the time she returned, more than half an hour had already passed. With little time left for lunch, she hurried to the cafeteria and ordered a coffee and a croissant. As she waited for her order, she exhaled softly, realizing how busy the day had been.
“You eat this for lunch,” Demitri said, stopping near the table she had taken. Luckily, hardly anyone was present in the cafeteria so no one would notice them together.
“I had work,” Nora replied. “I’m sorry for refusing to go with you to see your grandmother.”
“It’s fine. I don’t mind it. You better eat proper lunch meals,” Demitri said, holding the latte cup in his hand.
“Saying who doesn’t eat himself,” Nora murmured.
“I heard you. I already have had my meals,” Demitri said. “Where will you be in the evening?” he asked. “I mean which bar and restaurant?”
“Umm… I don’t know. But why do you wish to know?” Nora asked.
“I just wanted to know. Enjoy your coffee and croissant,” he said and walked away.
Nora frowned, thinking why he even came there. But she didn’t put much thought to it.
