Chapter 356: Never asks about you
Nora sat up abruptly, her heart pounding as she took in her unfamiliar surroundings. This wasn’t her home. It was Demitri’s house!
Her brows furrowed as she tried to piece together how she had ended up here. Pressing a hand to her temple as the memories from the last night flooded in her head.
Her breath caught as she covered her mouth in shock. She had blamed Demitri for everything—lashed out at him unfairly.
Her fingers brushed against her cheeks. She sighed, shaking her head. “How am I even supposed to look at him?” she murmured to herself.
She knew she had to apologize. But would he even be willing to forgive her after the way she had accused him of not being able to make any friends?
Just then, a soft knock echoed from the door.
Nora’s heart skipped a beat. She quickly got out of bed, hesitating for only a moment before opening the door.
There stood Demitri with a soft expression lingering on his face.
“Good morning,” she murmured, lowering her gaze in embarrassment.
She swallowed hard before speaking again. “Please forgive me for last night,” she apologized quickly, her voice laced with sincerity. “I troubled you a lot… and I didn’t mean any of those words. I swear.”
Summoning the courage, she lifted her gaze to meet his, hoping he would believe her.
“Freshen up. Grandma is waiting for breakfast,” Demitri stated flatly before turning on his heel and walking away.
Nora watched his retreating figure, her heart sinking. ‘He’s definitely upset.’
She let out a sigh, shutting the door behind her. “I even told him to ask his grandmother not to hope for any relationship between us,” she murmured to herself, guilt gnawing at her.
Shaking off the thoughts for now, she headed to the washroom and quickly freshened up. There was still an hour before she needed to be at work, so she decided to stop by her home first.
Stepping out of the washroom, she grabbed her office bag and made her way toward the door.
As Nora stepped into the kitchen, she spotted Demitri pouring soup into a bowl.
“Take a seat, Nora,” he said without looking up.
Before she could respond, Alessia turned to her with a bright smile. “Nora, have breakfast with us.”
Nora hesitated for a moment but didn’t want to refuse Alessia’s warmth. Just as she was about to speak, Demitri broke the silence.
“Good morning, Grandma. I’m sorry for last night,” she stated.
Nora’s fingers tightened around the strap of her bag. “I troubled both of you,” she murmured.
“Take a seat, Nora. Things like that happen. I’m just glad Demitri brought you here safely,” Alessia said with a worried gaze. “But next time, don’t drink too much. It can be dangerous at night. The world isn’t a nice place for women.”
Nora lowered her head slightly. “Yes, Grandma,” she replied softly.
“Come. Take your seat,” Demitri told her again, his tone leaving no room for argument.
Nora quickly made her way over, pulling out a chair and settling down. She ate quietly, feeling Alessia’s warmth ease some of the guilt lingering inside her.
Once breakfast was finished, Alessia turned to Demitri. “Drop Nora off at her office.”
Nora immediately shook her head. “It’s alright, Grandma. I need to stop by my house first,” she explained. “Please don’t trouble your grandson because of me.”
Alessia waved off her concern. “There’s no trouble. All Demitri does is rest throughout the day. He works at night.” She then glanced at Demitri expectantly. “He’ll drop you off at your house and then take you to the office.”
Demetri, who had been silently listening, let out a small sigh.

“Go and bring your car keys,” Alessia added.
Nora wanted to refuse but in front of the grandmother she couldn’t. Demitri, on the other hand, went upstairs.
As Alessia placed the dishes in the sink, Nora stepped forward to help her.
“Nora, I believe you are mistaken about life,” Alessia said suddenly.
Nora froze mid-motion, blinking in confusion. Had she said something out of character last night?
“Huh?” she murmured, unsure of what Alessia meant.
Alessia wiped her hands and turned to face her. “Last night, you were crying and saying that no one loved you. You even said you didn’t like Demitri because you and he have a huge difference in profession,” she said gently. “My grandson isn’t perfect, but he’s not bad either. He’s a shy guy. His last relationship didn’t go well, which is why he refuses to date anymore. But I have high hopes for you.”
Nora swallowed, her heart growing heavy as she listened.
“I don’t know how long I will live,” Alessia continued, her voice tinged with a quiet sadness. “Before anything happens to me, I want Demitri to be settled.”
A lump formed in Nora’s throat as she realized how deeply Alessia cared for her grandson.
“Demitri grew up without a parent’s love,” Alessia added, looking at Nora with knowing eyes. “I’ve heard about your family as well. I truly think you two are suitable for each other.”
Nora clenched her fingers around the edge of the sink, guilt washing over her. She had accused Demitri of being constantly pestered by his grandmother, but now she saw it differently. Alessia wasn’t just pushing him—she was worried for him. She wanted to see him happy before it was too late.
Before Nora could respond, Demitri’s voice cut through her thoughts.
“Let’s go,” he called from the hallway.
Nora turned to see him waiting. She glanced at Alessia, offering her a small, grateful smile before waving goodbye.
Demitri opened the car’s door for her and she got inside. Once he settled and fastened his own seatbelt, Nora said, “Last night I was not in my right mind.”
Demitri started the car’s engine and tilted his head to look at her. “You spoke what was in your heart. I will try my best that my grandmother never asks about you.”
