Chapter 358: Reflecting Ivy’s Personality
Ivy gathered everything that reminded her of Elliot, the photographs, the letters, the little gifts he had given her, and tossed them into a box.
Without hesitation, she carried it to the backyard. The match in her hand flickered before she dropped it into the pile, watching as the flames consumed the remnants of their past.
She stood there in silence. There was no sadness, no regret, but an acceptance. As the last embers faded, she crouched down, scooping up the cooled ashes and dumping them into the bin. It was over.
Returning to her room, she washed her hands, the cold water grounding her. When she lifted her gaze to the mirror, she saw a different version of herself—lighter, freer. She exhaled deeply, letting the moment settle within her.
Grabbing a towel, she dabbed her face dry before tossing it onto the chair. As she sank onto her bed, she reached for her phone, the screen lighting up with unread messages.
One by one, she typed out replies, clearing out the inbox that had been waiting since morning. A small smile tugged at her lips.
Just as Ivy was about to put her phone down, a gentle knock on the door drew her attention. She looked up just as the door swung open, revealing her mother, Mira, carrying a tray with a steaming cup of hot chocolate.
“I made your favorite,” Mira said with a soft smile, stepping inside.
Ivy immediately stood up, taking the tray from her mother’s hands. “Mom, you shouldn’t be doing this. You need to rest,” she said, setting the tray down on the bedside table before turning to her mother, who had already made herself comfortable on the bed.
“I’m fine now,” Mira reassured her. “The doctor said so too, remember?”
Ivy sighed, settling down beside her. She studied her mother’s face, searching for any signs of fatigue. “Are you sure? Because if you’re feeling unwell—”
Mira chuckled lightly, patting Ivy’s hand. “I’m sure. Stop worrying so much, sweetheart.”
Ivy exhaled, finally allowing herself to relax. “Did you want to talk to me about something?” she asked, sensing there was more to this visit than just hot chocolate.
Mira hesitated for a moment before speaking. “How are things going between you and Roderick?”
Ivy blinked at the sudden question, then smiled faintly. “It’s going well. We enjoy each other’s company,” she admitted. After a brief pause, she added, “But we’re not ready for marriage yet.”
Mira studied her daughter for a moment, then gave a knowing nod. Mira gave her daughter a thoughtful look before speaking again. “That’s alright. The most important thing is that you’re happy. Just make sure to keep things private between you and Roderick. I believe in the evil eye, and I don’t want any unnecessary rumors spreading.”
“I understand, Mom,” Ivy replied, appreciating her mother’s concern.
Mira nodded before shifting the conversation. “Tomorrow, we’ve been invited to dinner by your soon-to-be mother-in-law. Make sure to come home early,” she informed Ivy.
Ivy hummed in response, then asked, “What about the business, Mom? Dad has been pulling late nights for meetings.”
A small smile appeared on Mira’s face. “Your dad’s business has finally become profitable. There’s no need to worry about it anymore. Only a small debt remains, but we’re close to clearing it,” she reassured.
Ivy gave a firm nod. “I’m trying to focus on my own company as well. I’ll help Dad pay off the remaining debts,” she asserted with determination.
Mira sighed, lowering her gaze. “I’m sorry, Ivy, that we ended up in this situation. You shouldn’t have to worry about these things.”
Ivy reached out, taking her mother’s hand in hers. “Mom, things like this can happen to anyone. There’s no need to apologize,” she said gently. “We’ll get through this together.”
Mira smiled softly at her daughter’s words, feeling a sense of relief. Ivy had grown into a strong and capable woman—someone who didn’t shy away from responsibilities.
Meanwhile, Ivy felt such a tough situation made her see the true faces of the people around her. One such face was of Elliot, who left her hand in the middle.
Mira’s voice pulled Ivy from her thoughts. “Your phone is ringing,” she said gently.
Ivy glanced at the screen and saw Roderick’s name flashing. Before she could react, Mira had already noticed it too. With a knowing smile, she excused herself. “Make sure to finish the hot chocolate,” she reminded Ivy before stepping out of the room and closing the door behind her.
Taking a deep breath, Ivy answered the call and brought the phone to her ear.
“I’m outside your house,” Roderick’s voice came through the speaker.
Startled, she rushed toward the window, pulling the curtains aside. Sure enough, there he was, standing by his car, hands in his pockets, watching the house.

“Why don’t you come inside?” she asked, her voice carrying a hint of warmth.
“Are you sure?” Roderick hesitated. “Your parents are there.”
Ivy smiled. “I need to finish the hot chocolate Mom made for me anyway. Just come inside. They’ll be happy to see you,” she assured him.
For a brief moment, there was silence on the line before he finally responded, “Alright. I’ll be there in a minute.”
Ivy set her phone down and leaned back against the bed, lifting her mug to take a slow sip of the warm hot chocolate.
A few minutes later, a knock echoed from the door. Setting her mug aside, she stood up and walked over to open it.
Standing outside was one of the housemaids, stepping aside as Roderick murmured a thank-you for showing him the way.
“Come inside,” Ivy said, stepping back to let him in.
Roderick entered, his eyes subtly scanning the room. It was warm and inviting, reflecting Ivy’s personality—neither extravagant nor too plain, just effortlessly comfortable.
“Do you want some coffee?” Ivy asked, lowering the mug in her hands.
Roderick shook his head. “No, I had too much at the office already,” he said, watching as she shut the door behind him.
Turning to face him, she studied his expression. “So, what brought you here?” she asked, bringing the mug back to her lips, taking another slow sip.
