Chapter 362: Find your own happiness
Sylvia glanced at Luca, who sat in silence, sipping his drink.
She stood from her seat and moved to sit beside him. After a brief pause, she spoke. “Did you lose your family too?”
For the first time, she had heard from this unknown person that she was strong in her own way. At the same time, it made her wonder what kind of life he had led.
Luca tilted his head slightly, his gaze finally meeting hers. “Hmm.”
“Why didn’t you come to us, then?” she asked, curiosity laced in her tone.
“I don’t entertain mafias,” Luca replied flatly. “Your brothers and I have different views, so I kept my distance from Matteo.”
Sylvia let out a soft chuckle. “Matteo never listened to us, did he?”
Luca looked at her, confusion flickering in his dark eyes.
Sylvia exhaled a deep breath before continuing, her voice laced with an old sorrow. “After my parents died, we found out that mafias were involved. That’s why my brother chose to enter that world—to eliminate them. He always kept me away from everything, shielding me from the truth. And whenever I told him it scared me, he would simply assure me that nothing would happen.”
A shadow of sadness passed over Sylvia’s face as she sighed, her fingers tracing the rim of the glass in front of her.
“Then, I got to know some of Matteo’s friends,” Sylvia continued, her voice carrying a hint of bitterness. “They treated me the same way. They promised to take care of me, but none of them truly cared. To them, I was just a burden—too rebellious, too blunt, too harsh. In their eyes, I wasn’t a good person.” Her voice wavered as tears welled up in her eyes. “They think I’m mad.”
Luca remained silent for a moment, then said, “We came into this world alone, and we’ll leave it the same way.”
Sylvia turned her head, looking at him again.
“Nobody can give you the peace you seek unless you choose to find it within yourself,” Luca continued. “You need to carve your own path, find your own happiness. It’s okay if your brother hid things from you—that was his way of protecting you. But holding on to the past will only keep you trapped. Let it go, Sylvia. Move on.”
He paused before adding, “I hope you’re doing something to keep yourself from drowning in all these negative thoughts. Distraction isn’t a solution, but it’s a start.”
Sylvia looked at him, his words lingering in her mind. The weight on her chest didn’t disappear, but for the first time in a long while, she felt like someone truly understood.
“No. I left everything in Usa. I sold my company. I decided to start here one, but… I just need break,” Sylvia murmured. “What do you do?” she asked.
“I have resigned currently,” Luca replied.
“Huh? Why? Was the company not good to you?” Sylvia questioned.
“I was a secret agent,” Luca answered.
Sylvia stopped blinking for a moment. “Really?”
“Yeah. I joined special forces a long time ago. Then, I became an agent who worked in Russia for eight years,” Luca stated.
“Whoa! That sounds super interesting. So, did you catch the criminals?” Sylvia asked, curiosity flickering in her eyes.
“Yes, I did,” Luca answered.
A thought came in Sylvia’s mind and she asked, “Do you know Tsar Romanov?”
“Yes. How do you know him?” Luca confusedly gazed at her. To his knowledge, Lucius hadn’t shared all of this with Sylvia.
“I met someone, who knew Tsar too. She said he was the one who killed my brother. She didn’t tell me in the details since I’ve to ask all of this from Lucius, my brother’s close friend,” Sylvia stated.
“Hmm.” Luca didn’t reveal to her that he was also in an undercover operation to look for Tsar.
“Come. I’ll drop you home,” Luca then said.
“I’ll go by myself. Besides you have drinks too,” Sylvia replied.

“I’ll book a chauffeur to drop us home,” Luca said and went to the counter to pay their bills. Sylvia went after him while holding her purse and left with Luca for her home.

Layla and Lucius sat together on the couch by the window of their suite, wrapped in a warm blanket. The soft glow of a single lamp cast a golden hue over the room, while outside, snowflakes drifted gently from the sky, blanketing the city in a stillness.
“At night, everything feels calmer, Lucius,” Layla murmured, her eyes twinkling as she gazed at the snowfall. “It’s as if this place is completely empty, except for the two of us.”
Lucius followed her gaze, a sense of peace settling in his chest. “Yeah. Everything has fallen into serenity,” he agreed, his lips brushed her earlobe.
Layla tilted her head slightly, shifting her attention to him. A thoughtful expression played on her face before she asked, “What do you think about growing our family?”
Lucius turned to her, his brows lifting slightly. “You want a baby?”
A soft hum left her lips as she nodded. “I think it’s time we plan for it, Lucius,” she admitted, searching his face for his thoughts. “But what about you? What’s your opinion?”
Lucius didn’t hesitate. “I feel the same,” he said, his hand tightening around hers. “But it’s your body, Layla. You’re the one who will carry our child for nine months, and I can already imagine how difficult that journey will be for you.” His voice was filled with both concern and admiration.
Layla’s smile widened, her white teeth flashing under the dim light. “If I have my husband’s support, nothing will be too difficult,” she said, leaning closer. “I’m just so happy we’ve come this far together.”
Lucius pressed a kiss to her forehead, pulling her even closer, dreaming about the future they were about to build.
“Should we go to bed?” Lucius asked, his fingers gently brushing through Layla’s hair, his gaze locked onto hers.
Layla nodded, a soft smile playing on her lips. “Yeah. It’s time to sleep,” she murmured.
Without another word, Lucius stood up, effortlessly lifting her into his arms. Instinctively, her legs wrapped around his waist as he carried her toward the bedroom.
