Chapter 370: Harsh on yourself
Demitri returned home after dropping his grandmother to the station. Now, the house look emptier than before. He wanted his grandmother to stay and spend more time here, but she possibly could not leave the fields unwatched for a long time.
Sitting on the couch, he lay down on it and recalled the face of his grandmother when he told her Nora didn’t want them to bother her. He could sense sadness on Alessia’s face, which she masked.
“I think I shouldn’t have said that to Grandma,” he murmured. His eyes glued to the ceiling above him and he sighed. “But then, Grandma might have pushed Nora repeatedly for this date. I think for my grandmother’s sake, I need to find a partner for myself.” But that sounded an absurd idea too because in his mind he still wasn’t ready.
Picking up his phone from the table, Demitri checked through it only to find Nora’s messages.
“Can I come to your house? I needed to return the bag and the tiffin box.”
Demitri didn’t reply immediately. “It’s not needed,” he sent a message.
He hadn’t expected Nora to be on the phone as her reply popped up. “Then, where should I give you these items?”
“I don’t need them. You can keep it,” Demitri typed and sent.
Nora, who was finding a way to properly apologize to him and his grandmother got saddened to read his reply. He didn’t wish to keep a contact with her. Those replies clearly showed that.
Demitri put back the phone on the table and he went upstairs. He wore a hoodie jacket and went out to buy the groceries.
“Why did I have to encounter him when I drunk? He helped me too much and even made sure everything remains safe for me. I am such an idiot. I deserve his ignorance,” Nora mumbled to herself. She placed her phone on the bedside table and got down from the bed.
‘He even avoided me in the office. I created this distance, so why am I even feeling angry? Is it because I never had a friend like him before? I had no one and the one who was willing to be a genuine friend of mine, I already pushed him away.’ Nora thought while brushing her teeth.
Since it was Saturday, she didn’t have to go to the office. She decided to explore the areas near the office, where she could shift. Though it would be costly, but she could afford one-room apartment for the time being. After taking a hot shower, she exited the washroom while keeping her hair in a towel and went to the kitchen.
“Cerals will be enough for the breakfast,” Nora murmured and emptied them in a bowl before pouring milk into it. Once she was done eating, she washed the dishes before heading to her room to get ready.
Nora picked up her phone and put it into her sling bag. As she put on the gloves, her phone rang. She checked and was surprised to see Aurelia’s number on the screen.
She debated for a moment before answering the call.
“Nora, good morning. How’s the weekend?” Aurelia asked from the other side.
“Hi. It’s just started. I was going out for some grocery shopping,” she said. Nora, however, didn’t tell her she wanted to look for the apartments nearby the office’s location.
“Let’s go together. I have to shop too for my date. So, help me choose a dress,” Aurelia said from the other side. “Is that okay?” she asked.
“But I live far from your place. You have to wait af least two hours for me,” Nora asserted.
“Ahh, that’s also true. Then, I’ll ask someone else. Bye. Have a great weekend ahead!” Aurelia hung up the call.
Nora frowned and pushed back the phone into her sling bag. “I wonder why she called me. Was it truly for shopping?” she murmured and shook her head before heading out.
While sitting in the metro, Nora decided to call Demitri’s grandmother once. As soon as her station arrived, she found an empty spot and called Alessia.
The call was picked late and she greeted Alessia.
“Good morning, Grandma! It’s me, Nora,” she said. “Are you outside? I can hear some sounds.”
“Good morning, Nora. Yes. I am heading back to my place,” Alessia replied. “Why did you call?” she asked.
“Oh. I will call you later then,” Nora stated.
“It’s alright. I’m in a train. We can talk,” Alessia opined.
“I thought to see you later in the evening. I wanted to apologize,” Nora said, lowering her eyes for a moment.
“Oh, darling. What did you do?” Alessia questioned.

“Umm… I told Demitri to ask you not to bother me. I am sorry. I was drunk, Grandma. It was hectic for me in the office. I shouldn’t make such an excuse, but Grandma, I am sincerely sorry. I didn’t mean to say those words.” Nora hoped Alessia would forgive her and bit her bottom lip in nervousness.
“Sweetheart, don’t be sorry. I understand you. I have been pushing too hard on both of you. Even my grandson isn’t ready. I realised my fault. It’s okay. Don’t be harsh on yourself,” Alessia said from the other side.
“Grandma, it’s not like I’m not ready. I told you I fear that Demitri may not like it as a woman. I have such a small position in the company,” Nora murmured in a low tone.
“I don’t think my son mind that. His last relationship was with a woman who ran a cafe. I am just an old lady, who doesn’t want my grandson to be alone. But it seems I need to wait for a while. Nora, you shouldn’t get upset. Just enjoy your life,” Alessia stated.
“Yes, Grandma,” Nora replied.
The voice then distorted before the call ended.
Nora stared at the screen of her phone and felt a little better. “I should go and see Demitri after finishing my today’s tasks. I don’t think he will kick me out once I’ll be there,” she murmured and headed toward the metro’s exit.
