Chapter 371: Follow your heart
“Boss, I missed you,” Roger said as he hugged Lucius tightly.
“Don’t be so cheesy,” Lucius said, telling him to move away. But Roger’s grip tightened around him.
Layla and Aiden enjoyed their banter when Layla finally spoke, “We have bought the gifts for all of you. Roger, this is for you.”
He was quick to pull away from Lucius and received the bag from Layla. “Thank you. I believe there’s something nice inside,” he opined and eagerly began checking it.
“Aiden, it’s for you. I hope you like it,” Layla stated.
“Thanks, Layla.” Aiden smiled as he took the gift bag from her but didn’t open it.
“Wow! These are my favorite chocolates,” Roger said. “Boss, did you pick these for me? Did you remember that I liked Swiss chocolates?” He asked with gleaming eyes.
“Yes, I did,” Lucius replied and sat on the couch. “Did Zayne contact after that incident?” he asked them. Layla got busy with the servants as she distributed the gifts to them as well.
“Zayne didn’t respond to any of our calls,” Aiden replied and sat on the sofa chair. “I think the betrayal from June has affected him badly,” he asserted.
“Hmm. He is a baby among us, the soft-hearted man. I will check on him in the evening,” Lucius said. “Anything happened behind my back for which my attention is needed?” he asked.
“Sylvia has a message for the Boss. She wants you to see her once… For the last time,” Aiden informed him.
“She was mad when we told her truth. Sylvia still acts as if the earth revolves around her,” Roger muttered in annoyance.
“Seems like you have developed more hateful feelings for you,” Lucius commented.
“They both had an argument related to the matter from their past. Roger, I can’t believe you were in love with him, but you never let any of us find out,” Aiden said with amusement.
“Even I never found out,” Lucius said.
“Because it wasn’t meant to come out. I don’t wish to talk about it. It gives me headache,” Roger said, his expression turned into a gloomy.
“Well, Sylvia is upset with everyone. Luca talked to us and said that it seemed like she didn’t grow up the way other families did. That’s why there was always this angst inside her. It’s not her fault to be rude to us. But the circumstances around her turned her into such a person,” Aiden explained.
“I will meet Sylvia,” Lucius assured him. “Thanks for meeting her and making her aware of the truth in my absence,” he added.
Roger, on the other hand, pouted his lips in anger. He felt Sylvia was acting and making a fool of everyone while trying to gain sympathy. Hadn’t she always done that?
“The Christmas is next week. We will have a house party, so be present on its eve,” Layla’s cheerful voice reached their ears. “Lucius, we need to see Father, Sister Fiona and Roderick in the evening. Tomorrow, we can meet my family. Also, let’s personally invite Demitri, Luca and Zayne for the party,” she affirmed.
“Roderick has gone to London. It’s his first international business trip,” Lucius informed her.
“Oh. Then, we can see him once he returns,” Layla stated. “But why do you three look so serious? It’s festival time! We need to do a lot of preparation. Oh, if you both have girlfriends to introduce to us, then bring them to the party as well,” she remarked.
“We have no one,” Both Roger and Aiden replied at the same time.
“Then, go outside and find one. Take lectures from Lucius!” Layla advised them with a grin.
“Well, I told them many times to find partnerrs for themselves. But these two don’t listen to me. It’s not like women don’t desire them. I don’t know what’s stopping them,” Lucius complained, looking at his both friends.
“I don’t think Varya will come for Christmas here,” Roger finally said.
“Varya? The Russian underworld queen?” Layla asked.
“Yes. Our Roger likes Varya,” Lucius replied with a teasing tone.
“Does she feel the same?” Layla asked, sitting beside her husband.
“I don’t know. She is hard to read. And I ended it before it could even start,” Roger murmured.

“What did you do?” Layla frowned at him.
“Varya wanted him to shift to Russia and leave with her if he wants her to date him,” Lucius answered on Roger’s behalf.
“Ah, that was one tough condition,” Layla replied. “But I think she wanted to test you. Usually, after marriage a woman leaves her house. Varya’s personality has been different as far as I know. She doesn’t need a man by her side. But if she wants one, she wants him to prove that he can afford her with her conditions,” she explained.
Roger nodded his head as he finally understood what Varya’s perspective could be. “However, that’s not the only problem here. She loved Matteo. I don’t know but I felt those feelings are still there. They both were supposed to get engaged,” he asserted.
“Did she tell you?” Lucius inquired.
“Yes. I don’t think Matteo would have ever shifted to Russia,” Roger replied. “But that time the situation was different. What Layla said can be true,” he added.
Lucius knitted his brows together. ‘Matteo couldn’t be with Varya because of me. He chose me and died,’ he thought, feeling upset.
“You can try with simple communication with her, Roger. Try to know her first. Maybe she will open the doors of her heart for you,” Layla advised him.
“I am scared of even texting her,” Roger mumbled.
“Then, don’t be. She did show an interest in you. Maybe she wants you to take steps toward her. So, just follow your heart and don’t be afraid in pursuing her,” Layla stated, boosting his morale.
“Thank you for such an encouragement. I truly needed it,” Roger said with a smile, feeling much confident and better. He was so upset after getting rejected, but now, he knew what he had to do.
