Chapter 374: Before I turn 30
“I don’t care what work you do. I believe every job is crucial. If there were no receptionists in an organisation, it cannot function properly. Every job comes with its own perks,” Demitri stated.
Nora admired his thoughts. “But you ideally rest in the day time. You should tell me when you start working at night,” she said.
“I am switching to a day job,” Demitri replied. “There won’t be any issue in our timelines,” he added.
“Why the sudden change?” Nora asked.
“I felt I needed a change,” Demitri replied.
“Oh. That’s good to know. Late night work can affect the body and health. When I was in my part-time jobs, I would get tired and sick occasionally,” she pointed.
“You worked hard to come where you are standing today,” Demitri said. “Don’t let the others humiliate you. They can’t understand your struggle, so you don’t need to explain yourself to your colleagues,” he affirmed.
“Hmm. I even confronted one. They aren’t picking on me anymore,” Nora said with a smile.
“That’s good to know. If you find any trouble, you can always tell me,” Demitri stated.
“Sure. But I won’t bother you with my problems. I can fight them on my own.” Nora smiled at him. “I will wash these mugs before leaving.”
“Don’t do that,” Demitri stopped her and stood up from his place. “Let’s take you to the grocery shopping,” he stated and put his hands inside his pockets before walking toward the door. Nora couldn’t refuse him and silently followed him to the garage. “Can you lock the house’s gate?” he asked.
“Sure.” Nora took the lock and key from her while Demitri drove out his car from the garage. After Nora locked the front gate, she got into the car.
“Here’s the key,” Nora said.
Demitri took it and placed them on the front before driving off to the supermarket which was close to Nora’s house.

Lucius pushed open the door of a cafe, where Zayne had asked to meet him. As he walked in, he spotted Zayne at the far end. He finally arrived near him and called out his name.
“Boss!” Zayne stood up from the chair when Lucius hugged him and patted his back. As he pulled away, they both settled around the table.
“Here’s a tiny present for you from me and Layla,” Lucius said.
“Thank you.” Zayne took the bag from him with a warm smile. But behind that smile, a pain was hidden, which he didn’t wish to reveal.
“Let’s order first,” Lucius said, looking at the menu embedded inside the glass table. “What about two hot coffee?” he asked.
“Sure. I’ll order,” Zayne said and went to the counter. After a moment, he returned and took his seat once again.
“I’m sorry for seeing you so late,” Lucius said.
“It’s fine, Boss. It must have been hard for you. I got to learn from Roger and Aiden everything that happened,” Zayne said, looking into his eyes, wondering if there was still regret in them.
“It was hard. It killed me, honestly,” Lucius admitted what he truly felt that time. “But what kept me grounded was Layla. If she hadn’t been there, I would not be sitting here with you. In fact, I wouldn’t be in Italy,” he murmured.
“It’s okay to become vulnerable, Boss. You can’t be strong to every situation. And this time, it was about your family roots,” Zayne pronounced.
“Hmm. I want to be a good person for both my brother and friend. Antoine never wanted me to be a part of mafia world, but I never listened to him. I never tried finding out he always knew who I was. Meanwhile, Matteo was saving me from those bastards. I am at peace after knowing the truth,” Lucius revealed to him.
The waiter came with their orders and set the cups and saucers on the table before leaving.
“What about you, Zayne? How are you both doing?” Lucius questioned with a genuine concern.
“I am coping with the betrayal,” Zayne truthfully said and held the cup before taking a slow sip. “I was serious about June. If Layla hadn’t asked me to check on her once, I would have never learned the truth. She might have become the reason to harm any of you. More than pain of being in love, it’s the feeling of betrayal,” he said after lowering the cup.
“I am sorry, Zayne. It happened because of me,” Lucius apologized.

“Don’t say that, Boss. It wasn’t because of you.” In Zayne’s eyes, it was his fate to encounter and face it. “There were incidents when I should have been suspicious of June. But I chose to ignore them. It wasn’t Boss’s fault. I was the one, who fell for a wrong woman. So, please don’t blame yourself.”
“You have become such a big man. Yet, I should take its responsibility, Zayne. Tsar chose you because of me,” Lucius said. He began sipping the coffee silently. Zayne didn’t speak further and focused on finishing the coffee.
“By the way, there’s a Christmas party in our house on the eve. You have to come. You can bring your friends too from the office, if you want.” Lucius handed him the small invitation card, which Layla gave him earlier.
“Thank you. I’ll definitely be present in this party,” Zayne accepted the card and looked at it.
“Zayne, you can always find love. Don’t lose hope, okay?” Lucius’s eyes carried the hope that Zayne would find a true love this time.
“Of course, Boss. I have plans to get married before I turn 30,” Zayne said with a smile.
“That’s wonderful to know,” Lucius replied. “I am eager to see you as the groom. I’ll be your best man then.”
“Yes,” Zayne smiled. He felt light-hearted after such a long time. “Thank you for being my big brother.”
Lucius simply smiled and gestured to him to drink the coffee. After they finished their respective coffee, they left for their respective houses.
