Chapter 376: Invade your house
“Congratulations, Nora. You’ve finally gotten rid of those loan sharks,” Demitri announced, a satisfied smirk playing on his lips. “Lucius has called you to his office. He wants to return the excess amount they took from you.”
Nora’s eyes widened in disbelief. “What?” she gasped, barely able to process the news. “Th-Thank you so much.” Her voice trembled, but it was her eyes that carried the depth of her gratitude, the words failing to fully convey what she felt.
Demitri crossed his arms. “I told you Lucius would handle it,” he reminded her. “Now you can finally breathe easy. They won’t bother you again.”
Nora nodded, her vision blurring with unshed tears. “I… I don’t know how to thank you. No one has ever helped me like this before.”
Demitri’s gaze softened. “Then you’ve been surrounded by the wrong people.”
Nora let out a shaky breath. “Yeah… I guess I never did find the right ones.”
Demitri walked to her and helped her in cooking despite Nora’s refusal. “Let me help you. We will make it quick then. We both are hungry,” he said in his usual soft tone.
After they cooked, they sat around the tiny table with two chairs. As Nora served him the food, she said, “I don’t know how the taste turned out to be. But I hope you’ll enjoy.”
Demitri began eating while Nora looked at him with anticipation. “It’s good.” He gave her a thumbs up. Her racing heart turned normal and she also started eating. Once finished, Nora carried the utensils to the sink. Meanwhile, Demitri sipped the water slowly before taking it to the kitchen.
Nora took it from him and looked at the wall clock, which was hanging on the wall of the living area but visible from the kitchen too. “You should go home. It’s already late. I took a lot of time of yours,” she suggested.
Demitri checked the time on his wristwatch and hummed. “Goodnight. I enjoyed your company today and also the food. See you tomorrow,” he said. Hesitantly, he moved his hand to her head and patted it before walking out.
Nora saw him from the gallery outside the door and found him sitting in his car. Once he disappeared from her sight, she returned into the house and resumed her kitchen work.

Sylvia focused on the ledger in front of her, pen in hand, as she worked through the calculations. Just as she was getting into the rhythm, her cat, Coco, hopped onto her lap, demanding attention.
She chuckled softly, running her fingers gently over Coco’s head as it rested comfortably. “I should have gotten a kitten sooner,” she murmured, feeling the warmth of the small creature against her.
“Ding!”
The doorbell rang, snapping her out of her thoughts. Realizing her order had arrived, she set the pen down, scooped Coco up with one arm, and hurried to the door.
As she opened it, the food delivery guy handed her the bag. Just as she was about to close the door, a familiar voice caught her attention. Pausing, she stepped out and turned her head, only to see Aiden standing nearby.
“What are you doing here?”
They spoke in unison in a shocking gaze.
“Go ahead,” Aiden said, his hands tucked casually in his pockets.
“I moved here,” Sylvia replied. “Are you spying—”
“No,” Aiden cut her off. “I live in unit 604.” He gestured to the door on his right and chuckled. “Looks like we’re neighbors now.”
“If you’re going to tell me to leave, don’t bother. If you have a problem with me, find a new place for yourself,” she muttered. She knew exactly what kind of people Aiden and his group were—none of them could stand her, and she had no desire to see their faces either.
“Why do you always get so worked up?” Aiden asked, tilting his head slightly. He took a step back as if to leave but then suddenly stopped, an idea sparking in his mind.
“Won’t you invite your new neighbor to dinner?” he asked, smirking.
“No,” Sylvia replied flatly and pushed the door to shut it, only for Aiden to slip inside at the last second, grinning at her.
“I don’t think you can finish all that food by yourself, right, Coco?” he mused, taking off his shoes and making himself comfortable.
Sylvia narrowed her eyes as she set Coco down. Before Aiden could peek at the ledger lying on the table, she swiftly placed the carry bag over it, then picked it up to close it.
“You can’t just walk into someone’s house uninvited,” she said with a frown.

“You’re not just ‘someone.’ We know each other,” Aiden countered smoothly.
Sylvia exhaled sharply, deciding not to waste her energy arguing. Instead, she turned toward the kitchen, putting some cat food into a bowl for Coco before washing her hands.
Pulling out some cutlery, she prepared for dinner, silently debating whether she had the patience to deal with Aiden’s presence.
As Sylvia entered the living room, she saw that Aiden had already pulled out the food boxes. He had made himself comfortable, inspecting the spread with mild amusement. She had indeed ordered more than necessary, her curiosity about the new restaurant had gotten the better of her.
She walked over, placing two plates and spoons on the table in front of the couch.
“This is the last time you’re in my house,” she stated firmly. “And don’t tell anyone that I live here,” she added with a warning.
Aiden leaned back slightly. “No one is going to invade your house,” he said. “Rest assured, I won’t tell anyone.”
Sylvia sat down, eyeing him warily before focusing on her food. As she took her first bite, a realization crept up on her. This was the first time in a long while that she was eating at home with someone else by her side.
“Roger comes to my house frequently,” Aiden told her.
“What?” Sylvia exclaimed in shock and she swallowed the food. “I hate him more than anyone. Just don’t speak about him,” she murmured.
