Chapter 377: Want me to stop
“You hate him because he liked you?” Aiden asked. He already knew the answer. Roger had told him before, but he wanted to hear it from Sylvia herself. “You always act bitter toward him.”
“If you’re going to talk about him, then leave. Or I’ll kick you out,” she warned.
Aiden sighed, unfazed by her hostility. “I’m just trying to understand your perspective. Don’t get worked up,” he said before calmly resuming his meal.
A heavy silence settled between them as they finished eating, neither willing to break it. When they were done, Aiden helped Sylvia toss the empty boxes into the bin.
“You should go,” Sylvia said, crossing her arms. Then, after a pause, she added, “Thank you for having dinner with me.” She didn’t tell him how much she yearned for a family; how much she missed the feeling of belonging because for her, having one had always been impossible.
Before Aiden could reply, Coco meowed, breaking the silence.
Aiden smirked. “I live next door. You can call me anytime if you want to have meals together,” he said before turning away.
Sylvia walked to the door with Aiden, watching as he stepped out. Just as she was about to shut it, he turned back and said, “Sylvia, you may have to see Boss tomorrow. He has returned. Don’t ignore him if he calls you.”
Without waiting for a response, Aiden headed to his apartment, and Sylvia closed the door behind him.
“Of course, I’ll see Lucius,” she murmured. “He needs to answer me.”
Pushing the thought aside for now, she headed to the kitchen and washed the dishes before preparing for bed.
She moved through her nightly routine, brushing her teeth, cleansing her face, and applying her usual skincare products.
As she smoothed the night serum over her skin, her eyes flickered to Coco, who was curled up on her bed, watching her with sleepy eyes.
“You won’t believe it,” Sylvia whispered, more to herself than to the cat. “The people who were supposed to protect me always treated me like a child.”
Coco let out a soft purr in response, as if offering silent comfort. Sylvia sighed, pushing back the memories threatening to surface, and turned off the lights before slipping into bed.

Walking across the famous London Bridge, Ivy stole a glance at Roderick, who was holding her hand. Despite the usual crowd, there was something special about the moment, about the way their fingers intertwined.
“What are you thinking?” Roderick’s voice pulled her from her thoughts.
“Eh?” Ivy blinked, startled. “Isn’t it beautiful?” she murmured, then added with a small smile, “Just a bit crowded, which is understandable.”
Roderick chuckled. “Yeah.”
They both stopped by the side of the bridge, taking in the scenic view of the river below. The city lights reflected off the water, creating a mesmerizing glow.
“My first international business meeting was successful,” Roderick said, his voice carrying a hint of excitement. “Ivy, I think you’re my lucky charm.”
“What? How? I didn’t even do anything,” Ivy said, a smile forming on her lips.
“Umm… it never happened before,” Roderick admitted. “I usually struggled to catch the investors’ attention. My uncle or grandpa always had to step in, and I hated it. But this time, I did it on my own. And I think… your presence in my life has changed me in ways I didn’t even realize.”
Ivy’s heart warmed at his words. She turned to face him, meeting his gaze. “Maybe you just needed to believe in yourself and work on yourself, Roderick. I didn’t even do anything.”
“You did, Ivy,” Roderick murmured.
Ivy shook her head and turned her gaze forward, watching the city lights flicker over the water. She had noticed earlier how couples were kissing at the bridge, lost in their own worlds. But she knew Roderick wasn’t the type to rush into things like that.
‘Why am I even thinking about kissing him?’ she wondered, feeling a sudden warmth spread across her face.
“Are you cold?” Roderick’s voice pulled her out of her thoughts.
“Huh?”

“Your cheeks are red,” he said, brushing his fingers lightly against one of them.
“I-I’m not,” Ivy denied, but Roderick could feel the warmth against his fingertips. His hand dropped, but his eyes remained on her, taking in the way she avoided his gaze, how flustered she looked.
Something told him she might be thinking the same thing he was.
A kiss.
Without a second thought, Roderick closed the distance between them, capturing her lips in a soft kiss. It wasn’t their first, but something about this moment felt different.
Ivy pulled away, her eyes wide with confusion as she looked at Roderick.
“I thought you wanted to kiss,” Roderick whispered, his voice unsure. “Since we’re on the London Bridge, I thought we should at least kiss once. I am so—”
Before he could finish, Ivy grabbed the collar of his long coat and pulled him down, pressing her soft lips against his. She tiptoed in her boots, closing the distance between them in an instant.
Roderick froze for a brief moment before his hands instinctively wrapped around her lower back, pulling her even closer. A deep warmth spread between them as he kissed her back with equal fervor, his lips moving against hers as if making up for all the hesitation they had before.
The sounds of the city, the murmurs of passersby all faded into the background. Right now, there was only them, lost in a kiss that felt both long overdue and perfectly timed.
After a while, they both were in their hotel room. And as soon as they entered, their mouths found each other. Their hands deftly removed each other’s outer clothes. The sling bag on Ivy’s shoulder slipped down before falling to the floor, her hands tightly locking behind his neck.
His shoes were already off, but Ivy had yet to remove her boots. She pulled away from the kiss and gasped for air. “My boots… I need to…” Roderick lowered himself on his knees and helped her remove those boots before holding her up in his arms.
“Ivy, if you want me to stop, then now is the chance,” Roderick whispered against her lips.
