Chapter 385: Want to move on
Roger was in the middle of dinner when his eyes flickered to his phone screen. A news alert flashed across it. A fire broke out in the residential complex. His brows furrowed as he read the location.

“Isn’t this where Aiden lives?” he muttered, lowering his spoon. Without wasting a second, he grabbed his phone and dialed Aiden’s number.

After a few rings, the call was answered, but Aiden’s voice on the other end sounded off. Jr sounded weak and drained.

Roger’s grip on the phone tightened. “What happened at your place? And why do you sound like that?” His concern deepened. “Are you okay? Please tell me nothing happened to you.”

“Yeah, I’m fine. It’s just a fever,” Aiden’s weak voice came through the phone. “The fire did break out, but everything is under control now.”

Roger exhaled in slight relief but wasn’t fully convinced. “Did you take any medicine?”

“Hmm, I did,” Aiden murmured.

“And dinner? Have you eaten anything?” Roger pressed further.

“I’m in the kitchen now. I’ll cook some porridge,” Aiden replied, his voice slightly hoarse.

Roger frowned. “You should have called me over. You’re sick, Aiden,” he sighed. “Just take care of yourself, and don’t go to work tomorrow. I’ll let Layla know that her secretary is unwell.”

“I might feel better by morning. Don’t worry,” Aiden reassured him.

“Alright. Get some rest. Goodnight.” Roger ended the call and placed his phone down.

Aiden set his own phone on the counter and pulled open a kitchen drawer, reaching for a pan. Just as he was about to start cooking.

“DING!”

The doorbell rang, startling him. He frowned, wondering who would show up at this hour. Dragging himself to the door, he pulled it open, only to find Sylvia standing there, a tightly covered utensil in her hands.

“I made porridge for you,” she announced, stepping inside before he could even process her presence, much less question it.

Aiden blinked in surprise before silently following her into the kitchen.

“You didn’t have to do it. Are you taking care of your neighbour? This is something new I’ve seen in you, Sylvia,” said Aiden with amusement.

“You called me heartless earlier. I thought to show you I’m not. You can finish eating it and return the utensil to me in the morning,” she said.

“Thank you. It means a lot,” Aiden replied.

Sylvia didn’t respond and left his apartment.

Aiden simply smiled and took a bowl from the drawer along with a spoon. He sat down on the chair to eat the porridge while mentally thanking Sylvia.

“You did what? You apologized to Layla?” Kylie stared at Orabela in disbelief, her fork pausing mid-air before she let it clatter onto her plate.

Her brows furrowed as she leaned forward, gripping the stem of her wine glass. “Why would you do that? Wasn’t she the reason all of this started in the first place?” She took a slow sip, her eyes never leaving Orabela’s face.

Orabela exhaled softly, setting down the fork as she finished the last bite of her pasta. She dabbed the napkin across her lips. “Because I wronged her too,” she admitted, lowering the napkin.

Kylie scoffed, disbelief flashing in her eyes. “Are you serious? Orabela, she’s the one who destroyed you. She took everything from you and left you completely alone. And now, you’re the one apologizing?”

“She never took anything from me. I was the one in the wrong,” Orabela murmured, lowering her gaze to the table. “I never let her live in peace. And on top of that, because of me, Lucius’s life was put at risk. I don’t know all the details, but my biological mother… she did far worse to both of them.”

Kylie’s expression softened as she reached across the table, placing a gentle hand over Orabela’s and caressing it. “Orabela, you didn’t know the truth back then. Your hatred wasn’t baseless. It was because your father kept a mistress under the same roof. You were hurt, and rightfully so. If anyone is to blame, it’s him, not you.”

Orabela shook her head, her lips pressing into a thin line. “I don’t want to blame anyone anymore. And… Layla has forgiven me.” A faint smile tugged at the corner of her lips as she looked up. “She even invited me to her Christmas party.”

Kylie blinked in surprise before smiling. “That’s wonderful. If it makes you happy, I’ll support you.” But then, her smile faltered slightly, and concern flickered in her eyes. “Are you sure you want to go? Roderick will be there. And he’s already dating Ivy Stone. You still love him, don’t you?” She slowly pulled her hand back, watching Orabela carefully.

“I want to move on. I don’t care whether Roderick is there or not,” Orabela said. She raised her hand for the waiter, who shortly arrived with the bill pad. Orabela paid for the dinner and the two of them left the restaurant.

“Bella, let me drop you home,” Kylie offered as the car pulled up beside them.

“No, thank you. I need to pick up a few things on the way, so you should go ahead,” Orabela replied with a small smile.

Kylie nodded, though hesitation flickered in her eyes. “Alright then. Take care. See you tomorrow.”

“See you,” Orabela hummed, waving as Kylie stepped into the car. She watched until the vehicle disappeared.

Turning to her left, Orabela walked toward a jewelry shop and stepped inside. After going through the elegant displays, she selected two pairs of earrings, one of them a Christmas gift for Layla.

As she exited the shop and glanced up at the sky, shrouded in thick clouds.

“Will it snow again?” she murmured to herself, tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear before continuing down the street.

Just then, the sharp ring of a bicycle bell was heard. She lifted her head to check and realized it was too close, leaving her with no time to react.

Then, a strong hand grabbed her arm and pulled her to the side.
