Chapter 387: You are pregnant
Layla pressed a hand to her chest, trying to ease the nausea that had bothered her since morning. Despite the discomfort, she maintained her composure, sitting through the meeting until it finally concluded. As soon as it ended, she made her way toward Lucius’s office, hoping to see him.

On her way, several employees greeted her, and she returned their greetings with a polite smile.

Upon reaching the assistant’s desk outside Lucius’s office, she inquired, “Is Lucius inside?”

“Yes, ma’am,” the assistant replied with a courteous smile. “But he has a few visitors at the moment.”

Layla nodded. “Alright. I’ll wait.”

Another wave of nausea hit her, and she placed a hand over her stomach, puzzled. ‘I haven’t even eaten anything unusual.’ She pushed the thought aside as the office doors opened. The managers filed out, pausing momentarily upon seeing her.

“Ms. Layla,” they greeted respectfully.

She returned the greeting with a nod before stepping into the office.

Lucius’s face lit up the moment he saw her. “Layla! I was just about to come see you,” he said, moving forward and pulling her into a warm embrace. “The project is doing exceptionally well,” he added, his tone brimming with satisfaction.

“That’s wonderful news,” Layla replied, smiling at him.

A deliberate cough interrupted their moment. Roger stood nearby, arms crossed. “Boss, I’m still here,” he reminded.

Lucius didn’t even glance his way as he dismissed him with an amused smirk. “Then leave quietly.”

Roger chuckled before heading toward the door, leaving the two alone.

Once they were by themselves, Layla suggested, “Let’s visit Aiden once we wrap up work.”

Lucius agreed without hesitation. “Sure.”

Before she could say anything more, Lucius slid a hand around her waist, drawing her close. Lowering his head, he brushed soft kisses along the hollow of her neck, his lips trailing upward to her jawline. Just as he was about to capture her lips, Layla playfully pulled back, a teasing smirk dancing on her face.

Lucius narrowed his eyes at her in mock frustration. “Layla, don’t stop me,” he whispered and again leaned forward, but she moved her head back.

She placed her index finger over his lips and blinked slowly. “Lucius, you get naughty in the office sometimes.”

“I know you like it,” Layla murmured. She wrapped her arms around him and kissed him this time. They shared sweet kisses before they headed outside to have their lunch.

As Lucius sipped the wine, Layla’s unease grew. The certain aroma of the food was making her feel more nauseated. She covered her mouth and Lucius noticed that. Placing the glass on the table, he opened his mouth to speak. However, Layla pushed the chair back and rushed toward the restroom.

Lucius got panicked and ran after her, only to stand outside the washroom.

He saw a middle-aged lady coming outside and he said, “Please help me look at my wife. She was feeling sick. She just walked in.”

The lady assured Lucius she would check and went back to the female restroom.

Layla was washing her mouth when the lady approached her. “Your husband has asked me if you are fine?”

“Oh.” Layla wiped her mouth with the napkin and nodded her head. “It’s just nausea,” she murmured. “Sorry for the trouble,” Layla then apologized.

“Maybe you are pregnant, dear. Make sure to get the checkup done,” the middle-aged lady told her with a smile.

“Pregnant?” Layla mumbled, feeling a bit strange.

“If you are feeling better, go to your husband and tell her to take you to the hospital. I think you are pregnant, so congratulations in advance!” the middle-aged lady warmly said.

Layla smiled as her heart fluttered against her chest. She thanked him and the two of them went out.

“Take your wife to the hospital for a checkup,” the middle-aged lady told Lucius, who got worried to hear her. “I think your wife is pregnant,” she pronounced with a smile.

“What!?” Lucius exclaimed in shock.

The lady excused herself as her phone was buzzing constantly, leaving the two alone.

“I am feeling nauseated since the morning. It’s gotten severe,” Layla said.

“Why didn’t you tell me before? Let’s go to the hospital right away.” Lucius grabbed her hand and the two walked to the table. He carried her purse and kept a few bills there before leaving with Layla for the hospital.

The queue in the hospital was long, so they had to wait for some time in gynaecology department after doing the blood tests that the doctor had recommended. Layla was feeling happy to see the mothers with baby bumps. She truly hoped she was pregnant too. Her periods were indeed missed, but until it would be confirmed nothing could be said.

“Are you fine? Do you feel more nauseated?” Lucius asked in a low voice while holding her hand firmly.

“Not much, but the feeling is there,” she murmured.

“Hmm. Our turn will come soon,” Lucius told her.

“Mrs. Layla De Salvo!” The nurse announced her name and they both quickly headed inside. Lucius pulled out the chair for Layla and made her sit on it before settling on the second chair.

The doctor gazed at the reports before looking at them.

“Congratulations, Mrs. De Salvo. You are pregnant,” Doctor Benita said, bringing the joy on both Layla and Lucius’s face.

“Oh my god! That’s… That’s such a good news!” Lucius exclaimed and he looked at Layla with tears of happiness. He would become a dad soon. Just thinking about it was giving him tingling sensation.

Layla too turned emotional and couldn’t contain her bright smile.

“There is nothing bad come in the reports. So, you need to be relaxed. You need to come to the hospital for regular checkup from now onwards. I have already mentioned in this card about your visits. And please avoid stress during this time. The baby health comes directly from the mother, so Mr. De Salvo needs to keep that in mind.”

“Sure, doctor!” Lucius said. He looked at Layla and smiled brightly. He was blessed to have her and this upcoming baby would definitely bring much more happiness in their lives.
