Chapter 389: A family-oriented man
“I’m going to be a grandfather soon!” Alekis said upon receiving such a good news on the arrival of christmas.
“And I’ll be the grand aunt,” Fiona remarked.
“What are you talking about?” Roderick who had just arrived home heard their conversation.
“Layla is pregnant. You are going to be an uncle,” Fiona revealed the good news to him.
“Really? I’ll be an uncle,” Roderick happily said. He took out his phone before shaking his head. “I’ll go and see them,” he informed them.
“We will go there tomorrow morning. Give yourself a rest,” Alekis told him.
“I’m not tired. Please have dinner without me. I may have it in their home,” Roderick said and left.
Alekis wondered if Roderick had fully let go of Layla or not. Though he had set him up with Ivy, but he still hoped his grandson was no longer holding on his past.
Meanwhile, Roderick drove to his uncle’s house. He pulled up the car in front of the mansion and stepped out before walking inside.
“Where’s Uncle?” Roderick asked.
“Sir and Madam are in the garden,” the maid informed him. “I’ll call them here. Please have a seat,” she said humbly and left his sight.
Roderick sat on the couch, waiting for his uncle and Layla to come.
“Rick!” The moment Lucius’s voice fell into his ear, he stood up and gazed at them.
“Congratulations to both of you. I heard the good news from Grandpa and came here to see you and Layla,” he said with a genuine, warm smile. Roderick then walked to Lucius and hugged him tightly. “I’m so happy for you.”
“Thank you, Rick. Your words mean a lot to both of us,” Lucius said. He looked at Layla too, who was standing next to him. “Layla filled my life with immense joy,” he stated.
She smiled and held his arm in an affectionate grip.
“I will be an uncle soon. I am eagerly waiting for the baby to come,” Roderick said, looking at Layla.
“Become a good uncle to my baby. I am expecting a lot from you,” Layla said.
“I will,” Roderick asserted. “Congratulations on entering a new phase of your life. I truly pray for your and baby’s good health,” he stated.
“Thank you, Roderick.” Layla accepted his genuine wishes which came from the bottom of his heart. “The dinner maybe ready shortly. Join us, okay?” she stated and glanced at Lucius. “I’ll be back soon,” she informed him and walked to the kitchen.
The maid placed the glass of water on the table for Roderick.
“Have a seat. It seems you have a lot to speak with me,” Lucius remarked after studying his nephew’s face.
“Yes, Uncle,” Roderick replied. “Layla suffered a lot because of me, her half-sister and her family in the past. You have brightened her life. I can see that on her face. She has become much stronger than before. And you… You have become a family-oriented man too. I am genuinely happy for you, Uncle. Sorry for the all the troubles I’ve given you in the past. But as I said before I’d be trying to become the man you all wanted me to.”
“Roderick, I can already see the changes in you. How is it going between you and Ivy?” Lucius then asked.
“We are dating. Ivy is quite an understanding woman. She doesn’t please me for my wrong decisions and always guides me. I think I’m going to hold her in my life,” Roderick asserted.
“Hmm. That’s good to hear.” Lucius could finally see the mature version of Roderick. “By the way, let’s keep this good news within the family. I have not informed Roger, Aiden or the others about it yet. I will tell them in the morning. However, Layla and I are trying to keep it private for a few months,” he pointed.
“I understood, Uncle,” Roderick said.
“The dinner is ready,” the maid interrupted them. “Madam wants you both on the table,” she informed.
“Let’s go,” Lucius said and they went to the dining hall.

Carlo was leaning against the chair and had his eyes shut. “What?” His eyes immediately snapped open as he heard the news from his close confidant.
“Romanovs are dead! How? That’s impossible. They were unbeatable. Who did it?” Several questions came out from Carlo’s mouth all at once.
“Lucius, Boss. He is the one, who brought an end to Romanovs. Through my sources, I found out that Layla took the help of her friend in targeting both of them in Russia. Lucius was ready to surrender, but Layla helped him get out of this problem.”
As his confidant revealed the major details to Carlo, he frowned. “Doesn’t Layla come from a humble family background?” he asked his assistant, Harold.
“Yes, Sir.”
“She turns to be an interesting woman,” Carlo murmured. “Did you find out the whereabouts of Sylvia? That bitch is still off radar. And what has Verona done so far? Has she infiltrated Lucius’s group so far?” Carlo asked.
“Verona is working on it and waiting for the right time, boss,” Harold replied.
“It’s been over two months,” Carlo’s jaw clenched.
“I’ll call Verona again and ask her about the progress of the task she has been given,” Harold stated.
“Sure. Ask her. Tell her not to take much time anymore. I have high hopes from her and if she keeps making me wait like this, I may consider that she’s useless,” Carlo remarked.
“Got it, Boss,” Harold replied.
“Hmm.” Carlo leaned back on the swivel and dismissed his close confidant from the room. Harold, too, left Carlo alone and shut the door behind him.
“Lucius ended the Romanovs and Layla helped him. He got an interesting woman,” he mumbled. “Lucius, I am waiting for the right time to hit you and end you forever. With your fall, everyone in the underworld will bow to me.” Carlo let out a sinister smile as he dreamt of such a world, where he would rule.
