Chapter 391: To track her down
“Sure,” Roderick agreed with a small nod.
As they returned to Ivy’s room, he glanced around briefly before saying, “I’d like to freshen up.”
“Wait,” Ivy interjected, quickly moving to her cupboard. She retrieved a clean towel, knowing the washroom hadn’t been stocked with fresh ones yet. “Here,” she said, handing it to him while gesturing toward the washroom.
Roderick accepted the towel but hesitated. “I didn’t plan on taking a full wash, though,” he murmured.
Ivy blinked, realizing her mistake. “What? Oh! Sorry, I thought—”
“It’s fine,” he reassured her with a slight smile. “I just need to wash my face and hands.”
She exhaled a small laugh, feeling a bit flustered. “Yeah, go ahead.”
With a nod of thanks, Roderick stepped into the washroom, leaving Ivy to shake her head at herself with an amused sigh.
When Roderick returned, he noticed Ivy was on a call with someone while being inside the duvet. It was a work-related call, so he remained quiet until Ivy disconnected the call.
“Is everything okay?” Roderick asked.
Ivy finally lifted her head to look at him. “Yeah. It was related to my project. We have got another big investor in our company. After you signed as an investor, the company has started growing much better,” she pronounced.
“I think company’s founder is great that’s why many are showing interest in it,” Roderick answered. He ran his fingers through his hair and asked, “Am I going to sleep on the same bed? I won’t mind but if you are uncomfortable, then I can be on the couch.” He lowered his hand while waiting for her response.
“Just come to bed,” Ivy said, looking straight at him. Her fingers tightly clutched the duvet’s edge. “The light switch is behind you,” she pointed.
Roderick turned around and walked to the wall behind to switch off the lights. The entire room had enshrouded in darkness now. The thick winter curtains on the windows made it impossible for the light to come inside.
Ivy attempted to turn off the bedside lamp when she felt Roderick’s presence in the bed. “Let the lamp remain off,” he said.
Ivy pulled back her hand and slowly lay down on the mattress.
She felt Roderick was far from her and she turned to her right, wanting to look at him. As she extended her hand, it fell upon his shoulder. Flustered, Ivy pulled it back only to be grabbed by Roderick.
Her breath caught in her throat when he kissed the knuckles of her hand.
“Rick, what are you doing?” Ivy asked.
“Nothing,” Roderick whispered and moved closer to her. This time, his breath fell upon her tiny nose and she blinked rapidly in anticipation. Every muscle in her body got tensed when she felt his hand trailing down to her waist before resting there.
“Good night, Ivy. Have sweet dreams,” he whispered and pressed a soft kiss on the top of her forehead. Ivy closed her eyes slowly, feeling relaxed in his embrace.

Lucius caressed Layla’s hair while his eyes remained glued to her small face. He was unable to sleep because of the immense joy flowing inside him. His heart was fluttering every single moment, telling him he would be a father soon.
A new life would appear in his and Layla’s life soon. He was eagerly waiting for the day when they both could see the baby in her womb through the ultrasound, but he knew it still had time.
Quietly, Lucius made his way to the study, carrying his phone in hand. He switched on the desk lamp. Settling into the leather chair, he pulled out a notepad and jotted something down, his brows furrowing in thought.
The phone on the desk vibrated, breaking the silence. He answered it without hesitation.
“Chase? Why are you calling me at this hour?” Lucius asked.
“Boss, as per your orders, I’ve been keeping an eye on Carlo,” Chase reported. “He’s planning to infiltrate our group and harm you.”
Lucius’s frown deepened, his fingers tightening slightly around the pen. “Did he send someone to handle it?” he asked.
“I found out that a woman was supposed to carry out this task. However, I haven’t been able to track her down yet,” Chase reported.

Lucius leaned back in his chair, tapping his fingers against the desk. “A woman?” he murmured.
“Boss, do you suspect anyone?” Chase asked from the other end of the line.
Lucius exhaled slowly. “No, but if a woman has been assigned to this, any of my men could be vulnerable.” His jaw tightened in both worry and rage. “I’ll deal with it. Meet me in the morning. You’ve done good work, Chase.”
“Just doing my job, Boss. Good night,” Chase replied before ending the call.
Lucius set the phone down and shifted his gaze to the framed photograph on his desk—him and Layla, smiling. He reached out, running his fingers lightly over the glass.
“No one can harm us,” he muttered, his eyes darkening with resolve. His mind drifted to Carlo.
“I need to meet him personally,” he decided and looked at Sylvia’s number. However, instead of calling her he dropped a message to her.
“Do you have Carlo’s number?”
“I need to meet him personally,” Lucius decided, his gaze shifting to Sylvia’s number on his phone. Instead of calling, he typed out a message.
“Do you have Carlo’s number?”
“If you know his exact address, that would be helpful.”
After sending the texts, he leaned back, intending to retire for the night. However, his phone buzzed almost immediately. Sylvia was calling him.
“What happened?” she asked as soon as he answered.
Lucius furrowed his brows. “You’re still awake?” His voice carried a hint of concern.
“I couldn’t sleep. But tell me—why do you want Carlo’s number and address?”
“Because I need to see him,” Lucius replied, his tone firm.
Sylvia hesitated before asking, “Is this because of me? If something happened, you can tell me. I’ll help you.”
Lucius sighed. “No. You need to stay out of this. I can handle it my way. Just answer my questions if you know.”
A brief silence stretched between them before Sylvia finally said, “Alright. I’ll text you.”
The call ended, leaving Lucius staring at his phone.
