Chapter 48: Your dream man
The slow kisses when turned hungry, they both didn’t realize. Layla felt his hand resting on her back while the other one remained on her thigh. He moved his hand slowly up on her thigh, her body got tensed. She was the first one to pull away while breathing hard. Her chest rose and fell, noticing he was feeling the same or even more tenser than her.
Moving her hand to his chest, she stopped it to his left, feeling the thundering beats of his heart. When she was in a relationship with Roderick, Layla shared kisses with him, but he never carried the gaze like Lucius always did while being with her.
“What are you thinking?” Lucius questioned.
“That why do you love me? I never gave you anything in return. I mean… Does love can be so pure for a person even when you aren’t around them? Whatever you have told me so far, I have realized you waited for me while watching me from afar. And for some reason, at the most unexpected time, you came knocking on the door and married me. I have always been humiliated by the people around me, but you saw me as the treasure when others didn’t.”
She remembered once how Roderick told her he needed time to tell his family because of her birth status. Her mother was a mistress, which could anger his family. Layla, who never received love from her family, blindly trusted what he said.
Layla didn’t even leave him when she once heard Roderick not standing up for her when one of his friends directly remarked she was the illegitimate daughter of the Rosenzweig Family.
Indeed she was foolish and naive, thinking only Roderick could give her love as he always claimed.
However, Layla saw the true meaning of love, the kind that she knew through the words of her few friends in Lucius. Not once but every time he made her see the love he carried for her. Unlike Roderick, he didn’t say ‘I love you’ all the time, but his actions spoke everything.
“It seems you saw a lot through me. I told you I ended up falling for you when you scolded me but in the most strange way. That day I was not looking great if you remember. You did notice that, but you just gave me some advice before walking away. You see, I’m a very crazy and bad person. However, around you, I ended up becoming a good guy. Loving you wasn’t a choice, it just happened.”
Lucius gently brushed away her hair from her cheek. “Do you like me? Do you think I can be your dream man?” He asked.
“You are more than a dream guy I have ever thought about,” Layla chuckled as a smile formed on her lips. “And I’ve started liking you.”
“Wow! That was fast. My ears waited a long to hear that,” Lucius said.
“If you had come earlier in my life, I would have said that earlier,” Layla murmured. “Why did you wait so much? I mean… I graduated months ago.”
“Well, you weren’t aware of Roderick’s betrayal. I can’t ask my nephew’s girlfriend to date me,” Lucius stated.
“Ah, yes. I was naive not to find it out before,” Layla murmured.
“Everything has a time, Layla,” he stated.
Just then, he saw the sky illuminated and he told about it to Layla.
“What?” She exclaimed and quickly stood up. “Why is it not happening?” Layla murmured and wandered her eyes into the sky. Turning around, she found Lucius was right behind her, looking at the sky.
“I did see the sky turning green,” Lucius again said.
“Seems like I’ve to wait,” she sighed and sat down and then lay down. Lucius sat next to her and covered her from the soft, thin blanket.
“You should lay down too. The sky looks beautiful that way,” she opined, motioning her hand next to her.
Lucius laid down, sharing the same pillow with hers.
“Should I tell you about constellations from here? This northern sky is very clear, so we can spot them easily,” Layla said.
Pointing her hand, she excitedly said, “That’s the north pole. See, that the Ursa Major, is made of seven stars.” She made the image with her fingers so that he could visualize it.
“Yeah. I can spot it,” Lucius agreed as he followed what she told him.
Layla finally lowered her hand when Lucius suddenly said. “I wonder my friend is any of that star. He used to say it in a fun way that if he would die, I should locate him in the stars.”
There was a hidden pain in those words. Layla turned her head to look at him. “The universe is so big, Lucius. If he’s not here, then he must be somewhere else,” she asserted and placed her hand on his chest, caressing it tenderly.
He, too, tilted his head to look into her eyes.
“Why did you not ask me how he died? Weren’t you curious all this time why I looked so devastated that day?” Lucius peered into her eyes with confusion.

“Your friend is special to you and I didn’t wish to pry into that part which hurts you. I remember your face from that day. You weren’t in the best state and that made me believe I should not touch that topic. Your eyes said you didn’t want to live either,” Layla whispered.
Lucius was astonished by the fact that Layla was the only person who saw that. At that time, even Roger and his father couldn’t see through that pain.
“If someday you feel like you should tell me, you can. Some wounds can’t be healed. When we lose someone that void always stays behind,” Layla stated, keeping her gaze fixed on him. “However, I’m glad you kept yourself strong. Your friend must be happy for you.” A small smile tugged on her lips.
Just then, she felt a strange illuminance in the sky and quickly turned her head. The sky turned green making her eyes go wide.
“Oh my God! It’s the Northern Lights!” Layla screamed in happiness as her eyes sparkled. Lucius smiled to see her and looked up at the sky, feeling content for having her by his side.
