Chapter 61: My Lioness
Present time:
The sharp crack of Layla’s slap echoed through the Rosenzweig mansion’s living room, leaving a stunned silence in its wake. Orabela’s hand flew to her cheek, her wide eyes filled with disbelief. The force of the blow had not only shocked her but everyone else present.
Lucius stood casually by the entrance, his hands resting in his pockets, watching the scene unfold with an amused glint in his eye. His lips curled into a small smile. “My lioness is finally acting the way she should,” he murmured, pride gleaming in his gaze.
“Layla!” Miriam and Darius yelled simultaneously, their voices filled with shock and outrage.
Darius help his mother to the couch, while Miriam stormed toward her daughter, her face twisted in disbelief.
“Why the hell did you slap her?” Miriam demanded, standing face to face with Layla. “After everything we’ve done for you, this is how you repay us?” She spat the words like venom, her anger burning through every syllable.
Layla, unshaken, met her mother’s furious gaze head-on. “The favors you speak of were nothing more than chains,” she responded coldly. “This slap is for the endless lies and manipulations I’ve endured from Orabela. You’ve all allowed her to spread poison, and I’ve had enough.”
At that moment, Lady Agatha, seated near the fireplace, interjected with her usual scornful tone. “Now do you see what kind of woman Layla truly is?” she sneered, her voice dripping with disdain. “All these years, I warned you. This is the girl you raised—ungrateful and insolent.”
Just then, Seraphina entered the room, having heard the commotion from down the hall.
Layla’s glare burned through the room as she fixed her eyes on Lady Agatha. “Why didn’t you teach your son not to cheat on his wife and end up having me with my mother? Oh, but then again, your whole family seems to thrive on deceit, don’t they?” Her voice was sharp, cutting through the air like a blade. “Including your dear granddaughter, Orabela, who couldn’t handle the fact that I was with Roderick. So, what did she do? She seduced him into her bed. Infidelity runs in your blood.”
The room fell into a stunned silence, save for the harsh breathing of those present. Lady Agatha’s face turned pale with rage, her fingers gripping the couch tightly.
“Layla! Stop it!” Seraphina cried out, rushing forward, but Layla stepped back, refusing to be silenced this time.
“Not today. I’m done being quiet. I’m done pretending.” Layla’s voice trembled, but it wasn’t with fear—it was with years of pent-up frustration finally bubbling to the surface.
Lady Agatha’s face twisted in fury, her voice trembling with indignation. “What is this girl speaking? You insolent child!” she practically yelled, her voice cracking as she tried to maintain control.
“Don’t say a word against my daughter. Haven’t you done enough to humiliate us already?” Miriam’s voice was filled with frustration and disbelief as she confronted Layla.
“Humiliate you?” Layla chuckled bitterly, her eyes sharp. “All my life, Orabela did that job. And every one of you stood by and watched it happen. Even now, when I’m laying out the truth, you’re all still ignoring it. Do you think I’m lying?” Layla’s gaze swept across the room, challenging each of them. “Well, maybe it’s time I present some proof.”
Reaching into her handbag, she pulled out her phone. Orabela stiffened, her eyes darting to Seraphina, silently pleading for her to intervene, but it was too late. The sound of a recorded phone conversation began to fill the room.
Roderick’s voice echoed in the recording:
“Layla, please trust me. Orabela is the one who approached me when I was dating you. I admit that I did wrong, but your sister seduced me. She would always say how she could give me what you couldn’t. I was greedy, Layla.”
Layla’s response followed coldly:
“Stop calling me using different numbers. I’m married to the best man in this world, and I don’t care to hear what you and Orabela did behind my back.”
“Layla, please, don’t say that. I lost my mind and fell for Orabela’s words.”
The audio cut off abruptly as the call ended.
“No, no… That’s… not true…” Orabela stammered, her face paling as all eyes in the room turned toward her in shock and disbelief.
Lucius, who had been watching from the sidelines with a quiet intensity, finally stepped forward, a satisfied smile on his lips. “Oh, there’s more,” he announced, his deep voice carrying across the room.
He pulled out his phone, revealing several photos—clear images of Roderick and Orabela together, in compromising positions and at various places. He held the phone up for everyone to see.
“My bastard nephew and your insolent granddaughter cheated on Layla,” Lucius said, his gaze locking onto Lady Agatha. The old woman visibly paled, her throat going dry as she struggled to maintain her composure.
Lucius’s chuckle echoed through the room as he addressed Orabela, his words dripping with sarcasm. “Orabela, why spread false rumors about my wife among your college friends? Is this how you want to fight with your sister? Too bad! This time, the tables have turned. Layla, out of respect for you, wanted to protect your image, but you destroyed it yourself.”
Orabela remained silent, her face drained of color, while Miriam, her frustration boiling over, demanded, “Call Roderick.”

When Orabela hesitated, Miriam quickly dialed Fiona’s number. But before the call could connect, Orabela panicked and snatched the phone from her mother’s hands.
“Don’t do that!” she pleaded, her voice trembling. “I did cheat on Layla. There’s no need to involve Roderick in this.”
Miriam’s face contorted with disbelief and anger. For the first time in her life, she raised her hand and slapped Orabela across the face. The sound of the slap resonated in the room.
“This isn’t what I taught you,” Miriam cried, her voice breaking. “How could you be like your father?” Tears welled in her eyes, the weight of betrayal overwhelming her.
Suddenly, Miriam’s expression shifted. Her eyes glazed over, and her body swayed, her breath shallow.
Layla lunged forward, just in time to catch Miriam before she could fall to the ground. Miriam had fainted.
