Chapter 83: I am his legal wife
Layla returned midway since she forgot to ask Damon about his choice when she saw how Sylvia had held Lucius’s collar, yelling at him. Her blood boiled and she marched to them.
Before Sylvia could spat a nonsense, Layla grabbed her both hands and yanked them off Lucius’s collar, shocking evryone present in the hall. Standing in front of Lucius, she said with an intimidating gaze, “Stop yelling at my husband.”
“When you don’t know anything, you shouldn’t involve yourself,” Sylvia said. “Lucius had promised my brother. So, you better divorce him and leave his life.”
“Your brother is no more. And even if he were alive, he wouldn’t have wanted Lucius to suffer. I don’t care about the promise between them, but now I am his legal wife. Stop tormenting my husband. If you don’t, I’ll take action,” Layla said, keeping her gaze fixed at Sylvia.
Sylvia chuckled and said with mockery, “You couldn’t fight your own family. Do you think you can take action against me?” Sylvia pointed finger at herself.
“You know a lot about me,” Layla remarked and moved her hand up, showing her the phone. “I recorded your nonsense. You were never Lucius’s choice, so don’t force yourself on him. Be thankful that he always treated you with respect. But I won’t do the same,” she pronounced. The next second, Layla firmly grasped her arm and dragged Sylvia out with her.
“Leave me!” Sylvia kept screaming, but Layla didn’t stop until she reached outside the door.
She pushed out Sylvia and said, “Throw her out of the mansion. If any of you let her inside, you’ll be fired. This is my order,” looking at the guards and Lucius’s bodyguards.
Sylvia, who was lying on the floor glared at Layla and then at Lucius.
“This is how you repaid my brother?” Sylvia muttered and stood up when the guards grabbed her arms.
“Stop using your late brother’s name to threat my husband. You are old enough to take care of yourself. If you are that desperate to marry, then find a groom and get married,” Layla suggested. “I am Lucius’s wife and will always be with him. A person like you who never understood him, can never deserve him,” she asserted.
“What are you two waiting for?” Layla raised her voice at the guards. “Throw her out and remember not to let her enter in!” She pivoted on her heels and saw Lucius, standing right behind her. Holding his hand, she took him inside while Roger followed them.
In the living room, Layla made Lucius sit on the couch.
“Madam, you were incredible! Finally, Sylvia won’t step in this house. She has always treated badly our boss so badly and made him feel low,” Roger asserted while smiling.
“You didn’t have to–” Lucius’s words were cut off in the middle as Layla interjected.
“Why?” Layla looked at him with her sharp gaze. Tears brimmed in her eyes. “Why did you listen to her nonsense? Aren’t you a man, whom everyone fears? Why didn’t you act like that and let her blame you? If you ever allow someone to trample on your dignity, I swear I’m not talking to you,” she said and left the living room, not letting the tears fall from her eyes.
“Boss, go after your wife. I agree with her totally. Sylvia has always demeaned, no matter what you have done for her. Threatening you openly and brazenly blame you for Matteo’s demise is wrong,” Roger said, feeling sad for Lucius since he always let Sylvia blame him.
Lucius left his seat. “I’ll be back soon,” with that he hurried after his wife, who was in the kitchen, standing in front of the stove. He gestured to the maids to leave and walked to Layla.
“I am sorry, Layla. You are right. I shouldn’t have let the matter to come this far,” Lucius apologized. As he held her hands, Layla looked up at him.
Layla closed the distance between them, wrapping her arm around Lucius’s neck, her hand gently caressing his arm. Her touch was tender, yet her voice held a deep conviction. “I won’t let anyone make you feel low. I don’t know what happened in the past, but I trust you. Matteo didn’t die because of you. For me, you’re a savior,” she whispered, her tears silently falling, dampening his shoulder.
Lucius felt the wetness of her tears seeping through his shirt. With a soft sigh, he gently pushed her away, his thumb wiping away the tears from her cheeks. “You were badass when you stood up for me,” he said with a small smile, trying to lighten the moment. “I realized I wasn’t alone anymore. I have someone who cares for me more than I care for myself.”
Layla’s nose and cheeks flushed red, her emotions laid bare. Without hesitation, she cupped his face and kissed him softly. “You’re not alone. I’ll always stand by your side,” she whispered, her gaze drifting between his lips and eyes, full of unspoken promises.
Lucius looked into her eyes, feeling something inside him shift. “Thank you,” he murmured, before sealing his gratitude with a kiss.
He drew her closer, his arms circling her waist, pulling her tightly against him. What began as a brief, tender kiss quickly deepened into something more intense, both of them clinging to the connection they had found.
Layla’s back pressed against the kitchen counter, but neither of them seemed to care.
They only pulled apart when the need for air became too strong, gasping for breath as they stared at each other.
“Are you hungry?” Layla asked.
“Yes,” Lucius replied. “But what kind of hunger do you meant? Food or…” His words trailed off as he brushed his thumb across her lips while grinning.
“I’ll cook your favorite meal,” Layla said with a small smile. And just then, their stomachs growled, making the atmosphere more lighter.

“Let me help you,” Lucius said. He planted a soft kiss on the middle of her forehead before pulling away.
