Chapter 85: Find your soulmate
Layla sniffled back her tears, not letting them drop as she heard Lucius. Though he only provided her the bits, she could understand why it was difficult for Lucius to speak about it. Some wounds never heal and Lucius was the example of it.
Wiping the tears from the edges of her eyes quickly, Layla caressed his back as he leaned down, burying his face in her neck while closing his eyes. “I’ve two regrets in my life: losing my elder brother and best friend.”
Layla didn’t say anything since no words of comfort could bring warmth to him. ‘Maybe one day you’ll forgive yourself,’ she thought.
Lucius was the first to pull away, wiping the tears, hanging on the edges of his eyes. He raised his head to meet Layla’s gaze. “I didn’t mean to upset you today,” he murmured.
“I’m not upset. I am glad that you shared such a big part of your life with me. It must not be easy for you all this time. Don’t think much,” she said. Turning to look at the grave for the last time, Layla added, “I never met you before. But I know why you trusted Lucius more than anyone.” She then joined her both hands together, reciting a silent pray in her mind.
Lucius stared at her in bewilderment. In such limited words, she understood him better than the others.
“Look, you will find your dream woman soon,” said Matteo while handing Damon an alcohol glass.
“What about you? When are you going to find your dream woman?” Lucius mused, taking a slow sip.
“Maybe next year. I believe in fate, Lucius,” he said with a smile.
“There’s nothing like fate,” Lucius chuckled.
“Dude, destiny decides many things,” Matteo remarked.
“That’s why you are still single,” Lucius muttered and took a few more sips.
“By choice,” Matteo replied. “Lucius, remember one thing. My mom told me this when I was a teenager. You find your soulmate in the most unexpected time, in the most unexpected way. Destiny plays its role when we stop believing. Keep my words in your mind. Maybe one day you’ll find your dream woman,” he said with a smile and leaned back on the chair.
Lucius came out of those thoughts and looked at Layla. ‘You were right, Matteo. In my lowest, I met her.’
“Shall we go then? Or do you wish to stay longer here?” Layla was done praying and turned to him.
“It’s the time to leave,” Lucius said and extended his hand. She held it, the two of them gave a last glance at Matteo’s resting place before leaving the graveyard.

“Dad, I need you signature in this document,” Orabela said, showing him a file.
“What’s this?” Darius asked amusedly.
“I’m going to launch a new product next week. So, I need the Chairman’s signature. You know that I always keep your name in anything I do related to the company I have,” Orabela said with a smile.
“You are such a wonderful girl. Give me the file. I’ll do it,” Darius asserted and wore the glasses. He picked up his fountain pen and opened the file, which Orabela had forwarded.
“Dad should read,” she suggested.
“What’s there to read? You think I don’t trust my daughter,” Darius laughed and quickly signed at the bottom of every page.
“Still, Dad. You should read the documents before signing,” Orabela asserted.
“I trust you more than anyone,” Darius opined and reached the last page. Signing on it, he handed back the file to Orabela. “Your birthday is after two days. What do you want?” he inquired.
“Please, Dad. You’ve given me everything a father should, even more than that,” Orabela asserted. “I only need your blessings, Dad. In future, I want to take your company to the greater heights,” she added.
“You make me proud, Bella. Don’t make mistakes and stay away from Layla. I want you to be happy,” Darius stated, smiling at her.
“I understand, Dad,” Orabela said. “I was wondering if Layla would be invited or not. It’s her birthday too,” she added.
“Why do you want to ruin such a joyful day with her presence?” Lady Agatha walked in while holding the polished stick in her hand. Miriam had held her mother-in-law’s arm as they walked toward the table. “There is no need to call that insolent girl. Have you forgotten what she did two days ago? I don’t want her to be a part of your birthday party,” she announced.

“I feel the same. Layla shouldn’t be a part of this,” Darius agreed with his mother and helped her sit on the chair.
“I’m thinking to apologize to Layla. That’s why I thought this party would be the best to do it,” Orabela asserted, making an innocent face.
“There’s no need to do that,” Miriam told her this time.
“Since you all want this, then I won’t argue. I’ll invite Roderick and his entire family to my birthday,” Orabela stated with excitement.
“Yes, you should!” Lady Agatha encouraged her.
Orabela smiled brightly and thought, ‘Layla, you’ll be alone once again on your birthday. Everyone will attend mine. But I do want to give you a surprise that day. I’ll convince Dad by then to declare me as the heiress and the next chairman of the company. It will be fun to see your face the moment it happens. Once I get married to Roderick, then I’ll snatch all the other things from you about which you are so proud!’
She looked at her parents and grandmother. “I should go back to my room. Thanks Dad for this,” Orabela stated and left the study of her father.
As she crossed the living room, she saw a maid rushing in.
“Miss Orabela, the police is here!”
“What? Why?” She exclaimed in shock.
“The-they say…” The maid’s words trailed off as a team of five officers walked in.
Orabela widened her eyes and fear gripped her entire being. Why did the police come?
