Chapter 86: For her happiness
A few hours ago,
Lucius and Layla returned home. While Layla went upstairs to the bedroom, Lucius stayed in the living room, where Roger was present too.
“Boss, I wanted to tell you this since morning. Madam Layla’s mother is the one who hired that shooter with the intention to harm her. Aiden and I have collected the evidence,” Roger informed and took out a pendrive.
He inserted it inside the tablet. Lucius took it from him and saw the videos, where Seraphina was seen driving the car. And her meeting with the assassin was clearly visible through another camera recording.
“Where did you find this?” Lucius asked, pointing at the last video.
“Boss, in the junkyard a car had the dash cam. The man lied to you about not meeting Seraphina,” Roger explained.
“Hmm. Then, it’s the time to send the man to the police station,” Lucius pronounced.
“I thought Boss would punish them in their own way,” Roger stated.
“Layla won’t like that. Also, if the media gets the spark of this matter, you know what it can turn into,” Lucius remarked with a smirk. “The situation will turn. The dark secrets of the Rosenzweig family will be out. The wrong they have done to Layla will be in the light. Orabela is trying hard to be the next heiress and I won’t let it happen. That’s why the involvement of the police will be the best this time,” he affirmed.
“But won’t it drag Madam Layla’s name too?” Roger asked.
“That won’t happen, Roger,” Lucius said confidently. He went upstairs while holding the tablet in his hand before saying, “Thanks for your and Aiden’s hardwork. You should go home. I’ll do the rest of the work.”
Reaching his room, he found Layla on the bed, typing something on the phone.
Lucius shut the door lightly, but she ended up hearing the sound. Lifting her head, she looked at Lucius. “Ruby wants to see me after two days. I have a meeting with you that day. I have told her that I would not be able to see her till the evening,” she said.
“You can take leave anytime you want, Princess,” Lucius asserted. He stopped and finally sat on the mattress. She crossed her legs and smiled, thanking him for being such a lenient boss.
“Ruby must be wanting to see you because it’s your birthday,” Lucius said.
“Yeah. How do you know? I mean… I thought you hadn’t remembered,” Layla replied.
“Are you joking? I’m more excited about celebrating your birthday than anyone else,” Lucius said, tucking a hair strand behind her ear. “Your first birthday with me,” he added.
Layla smiled and blushed at the same time. “I wonder what present you’ll give me,” she murmured.
“I can give you anything you want. Just name it and I’ll present it to you,” Lucius whispered.
“Oh, you talk like a king some kingdom,” she chuckled. “I don’t need anything. You’ve already given me so much… More than I’ve ever imagined,” Layla stated, peering into his eyes.
“Don’t you feel hot?” She suddenly asked and undid the top two buttons on his shirt. Before she could sit back, he held her by her waist, thus pulling her closer.
“What are you doing?” His hot breath fanned her lips while he put away the tablet.
“Did that turn–”
“Yes,” Lucius promptly replied without hearing her whole statement. “We were disturbed in the morning,” he said and hoisted her up on his lap, “but no one will disturb us for hours now.”
Layla smiled as she rested her soft hands against his cheek. “I got period. You need to wait for a few days,” she whispered.
“Indeed, a long wait for me again,” Lucius stated.
“Next time, you don’t have to wait. I promise,” she asserted and kissed his lips. A deep desire was evident in her eyes, which he noticed too.
“Sure. I’ll wait. Do you feel any pain? Do you want me to get you a hot water bag?” Lucius asked as he gently settled Layla back onto the mattress.
“No, I’m fine. I don’t usually feel pain,” Layla replied. “But thank you for being considerate.”

“Wait here. I’ll be right back,” Lucius said, hurrying out of the room.
Layla sighed softly. “So this is what care feels like,” she murmured. Her gaze drifted to the tablet nearby. Picking it up, she turned it on, and her brows furrowed as a video played. It showed her mother talking to a strange man in a junkyard.
“Why would he have something like this?” she whispered to herself. Setting the tablet back on the bed, she waited for Lucius to return.
The door soon opened, and Lucius entered with a box of chocolates in his hand. “Here, I got these for you. You should eat them,” he said with a smile.
“You actually bought them. Thank you so much,” Layla said, opening the box and popping a chocolate into her mouth. She held one out to Lucius, who accepted it with a smile.
“I saw the video in the tablet. What is it about?” she asked curiously.
“Umm… The man you told me who was taking the pictures was hired by your mother to harm you,” Lucius revealed to her. “So, these are the evidence against your mother,” he added.
“What?” Layla was shocked to learn that.
“I’ve confirmed myself with the man,” he said.
“But why would my mom want it?” Layla’s heart sank. Her eyes turned watery and her throat felt dry.
“You should file a case against your mother, Layla, to know the truth. Also, it’s your chance to show the world what your family truly is, what wrong you have suffered there. Don’t go easy on them,” Lucius stated.
Layla took in a deep breath and nodded her head. “You are right. My mom… I always did things for her happiness, but she wanted to harm me! She really makes me feel pathetic all the time,” she remarked, not letting the tears fall despite how hurt she was.
