Chapter 95: Shrewder than I thought
Lady Agatha knocked on the door before pushing it. There seated Darius on the chair, going through the file in his hand.
“Mother,” Darius whispered.
“Stay seated,” Lady Agatha said and closed the door behind her. Pulling out a chair, she sat on it and looked around the room. “You never made me feel shameful with your actions, Darius,” she began, her tone carried a bit of guilt in it.
“Except for bringing a mistress in this house. You destroyed three lives with this. Exclude that wench and her daughter,” Lady Agatha said with a bitter tone in the end.
“Mother, you knew I wanted to marry Seraphina from the beginning. To fulfill the wish of my late father, I went with your choice. However, it was too late for me to stop. Seraphina was already pregnant with my child and the doctor refused to abort it because of the medical complications,” Darius explained to her.
“It would be better if they both were dead,” Lady Agatha sharpy said. “What good Seraphina did to this house or to you? She brought a daughter in this world and later, she wanted to kill her. Which mother does this? Did you ask her? What if Layla and Seraphina presented a fake narrative of this so that Layla could enter the company?”
These words were of Orabela, coming out of Agatha’s mouth.
“What do you mean, Mother?” Darius asked her.
“Don’t act naive. You know what I mean. Layla never got anything from us because her birth was itself a mistake in all of our eyes. Seraphina might have planned this with Layla so that she can become a part of the Rosenzweig Groups. Miriam told me how Layla has humiliated all of you after her marriage using her husband Lucius’s name,” Agatha explained.
“I met Seraphina. She was regretting her actions. But it’s of no use anymore,” Darius asserted.
“Your forefathers built this company with so much hardwork. Don’t declare Layla the director tomorrow. It will be wrong to your legal wife and daughter,” Agatha affirmed with a stern tone.
“Mother, I have taken the decision after a careful thought,” Darius opined. “Seraphina has never treated Layla with love and care. Because she was an unwanted child for us. Whatever she did wasn’t a part of any plan,” he added.
Lady Agatha’s grip on the stick tightened. It was too difficult to make her son understand.
“Mother should go to bed. It’s already late,” Darius suggested, looking at the clock on the wall. Lady Agatha hummed and left the room.
As Lady Agatha returned to her room, she found Orabela sitting on the edge of the bed. Orabela noticed a disappointed look on her grandmother’s face.
“Your father has refused to take back the order,” Lady Agatha informed her. “Layla will be officially declared the Director tomorrow.”
Orabela held back her frustration, taking a deep breath before forcing a small smile. “It’s alright, Grandma. At least you did everything you could to try and stop this.” Her words sounded calm, but her eyes betrayed her feelings.
Lady Agatha reached out, gently patting Orabela’s head. “I wish there was more we could do, but for now, we’ll have to wait and see. Maybe in future Layla makes a mistake, then it will be easy to throw her out of the company.”
“I hope it happens, Grandma. Who knows like her mother she may try to kill any of us?” Orabela remarked.
Lady Agatha’s mind clicked with an idea. She knew what to do now. “Don’t worry, my child. Layla won’t be declared as the official Director of the company tomorrow. I know now what I’ve to do,” she pronounced with a smile.
“What do you mean, Grandma?” Orabela pretended to be naive.
“Layla’s mother committed a crime which can be used against Layla. Our trustable board members will never want her to lead as the Company’s director because her mother has been punished under the attempt to murder charges,” Lady Agatha pronounced with a grin.
“Grandma, can it really happen? Can the board members stop this appointment?” Orabela asked with a hopeful gaze.
“Yes, they can,” Lady Agatha said with confidence. “Bring me the phone,” she stated.
Orabela was quick to fetch her grandmother’s phone from the sofa table and handed it to her.
‘Layla, you are going to get a big shock tomorrow. Poor you! Your birthday will end in tears again,’ Orabela thought in her mind. She watched her grandmother speaking on her phone, convincing the trusted board members, who knew her well.

“Thank you for meeting with me at such a late hour,” Lucius said, his voice carrying a calm authority as he addressed the group.
“We couldn’t afford to decline Mr. De Salvo’s proposal,” replied the man seated to his right.

“I appreciate the trust you’ve all placed in me. I promise none of you will be disappointed,” Lucius assured them, his gaze sweeping over the room, projecting confidence. Once the meeting concluded, he and Roger personally saw each of the eight attendees to their cars.
As the last car pulled away, Roger turned to him. “Boss, how did you find out that Madam Layla’s grandmother was planning to prevent her appointment as Director tomorrow?”
Lucius’s expression hardened slightly. “I have my sources, Roger. I placed someone close to her to gather information. The old lady is shrewder than I anticipated,” he replied, slipping into the backseat of his own car, his mind already on the next move.
Roger, too, slid in but into the passanger’s seat. “Madam Layla’s grandmother is truly, Boss. It makes my head spin sometimes. They all didn’t even stop after getting your threats,” he affirmed, tilting his head.
“Because I was too lenient,” Lucius asserted with a frown.
“But Boss, you can’t kill any of them. That’s not what Madam Layla desires,” Roger asserted.
“Layla is the reason I’m holding myself back. Else, all of them deserve to die. They are getting on my nerves lately,” Lucius muttered, lowering his head and looking at the shiny ring on his finger.
