Rebirth: Love in the Apocalypse - Chapter 38
Chapter 38: JR Farm-Stay 5
“What’s wrong?” Qin Wu asked in a serious voice.
“Zombie baiting.” Mo Chenxuan said, and Qin Wu couldn’t help but frown.
After all, it was only the early days of the apocalypse.
How could people have already started this messed-up habit?
“Zombie baiting? What is zombie baiting?” Lin Rongrong asked with a frightened look.
Although she didn’t know what ‘zombie baiting’ was, she instinctively felt it was not a good thing.
After all, baiting involved dangling something desirable in front of a target prey.
Considering what was desirable to a zombie, Lin Rongrong couldn’t help but tremble in revulsion.
“Brother Chenxuan…” Qin Wu called with a thoughtful expression.
“Follow me.” Mo Chenxuan said and led the way towards the farm gate.
Five minutes later, the four saw a group of one hundred and three people.
Of the one hundred and three, nine were superpowers, and the rest were ordinary people.
At this time, nine superpowers and sixty-seven ordinary people were fighting zombies while the remaining twenty-seven were locked in a cage.
“This…” Lin Rongrong trembled, and a trace of confusion flashed in his eyes.
“Why?” She asked.
“The people in the cage are used to attract and distract zombies.” Qin Wu sighed.
She had seen worse cases of zombie baiting in her previous life.
Fortunately, this time, the nine superpowers and sixty-seven ordinary people were a little humane.
‘At least the cage has very small gaps, and the zombies can’t easily reach in to scratch and bite them. In a way, they are the safest among the one hundred and three people.’ She thought.
“The people in the cage…” Xu Fei frowned, and Qin Wu nodded.
“Children, the elderly, and weak women.” Qin Wu said in a matter-of-fact voice.
“We have to save them.” Lin Rongrong said, looking at Mo Chenxuan with a pleading expression.
Seeing this, Mo Chenxuan sighed and turned to Xu Fei.
“What do you think?” He asked.
Xu Fei frowned when he heard the question.
He instinctively wanted to save the people.
After all, they were all human, and it was not right to use the weak to bait the zombies.
However, he suppressed the instinct and thought logically.
“We must be responsible for them if we save them.” He said, and Mo Chenxuan nodded.
“JR Farm Stay is in a remote place. Until we reach the nearest base, we must be responsible for those people’s food and security. Also, they will require supplies to enter the base. Can you handle this matter until this point?” Mo Chenxuan asked, looking at Lin Rongrong.

Lin Rongrong frowned and unconsciously clenched her hands.
Although she knew the difficulties, she still wanted to save those people.
Seeing this, Qin Wu shook her head.
“Rongrong, take a good look at those people.” Qin Wu said, and Lin Rongrong couldn’t help but be confused.
However, she still turned to look.
At this time, she noticed that although the caged people looked scared, most didn’t look resentful.
“What is going on?” She asked in a confused voice.
“No one will offer something for nothing in the apocalypse. Those weak people can’t fight, but they still have some value. They have probably chosen to act as bait in exchange for food and other things.” Qin Wu said.
“You must always consider whether someone wants to be saved before you save them. Otherwise, you may harm others for the sake of your self-righteousness.” Mo Chenxuan said, and Lin Rongrong blushed from embarrassment.
“Brother Chenxuan and I personally hate zombie baiting. However, for some people, being bait is their only path to survival.” Qin Wu said.
After that, the four left the area and returned to the livestock sheds.
As before, they opened the sheds and methodically killed the zombies.
When evening came, they left the shed area and walked towards the farmhouse.
At this time, the new arrivals were standing outside the farmhouse.
When they saw Mo Chenxuan and the other three, they immediately grew alert and gathered together.
Seeing this, the four didn’t react but continued walking towards the house.
“How are we going to enter the house?” Lin Rongrong suddenly asked.
After all, they jumped from the second floor and before that, they previously blocked all the exits.
“There is a ladder near the backdoor.” Mo Chenxuan said.
“Thank god.” Lin Rongrong sighed in relief.
“We have cleaned up all the surrounding zombies. Unless the zombie and mutant beasts in the livestock sheds break out, this place is relatively safe. It’s not a problem to sleep outside.” Qin Wu chuckled.
“I would rather not sleep outside if I can help it.” Qin Wu retorted.
After that, the four walked to the backdoor, carried the ladder, and placed it under the window they jumped from.
Seeing this operation, the new arrivals couldn’t help but be surprised.
“Boss, these people seem to know what they are doing.” Someone whispered.
“Maybe they are the owners of this farmhouse.” Another said.
“Do we need their permission to enter the house?”
“Boss, we may not have to break the door if we talk to them.”
“Boss Wang…”
“Wait a moment. I will go talk to them.” A man said.
The man was middle-aged.
He had a beer belly and shrewd eyes that made his face look a little vulgar.
Soon after, he gathered three people and walked towards Mo Chenxuan and his team.
“It’s good to see four friends during this trying time.” The man said and quickly continued.
“My name is Wang Ming, and I used to be the boss of a small company. May I ask if this farmhouse belongs to the four friends?”
“We are just passing by.” Mo Chenxuan said, and Wang Ming nodded.
“Four friends, my group has children, women, and the elderly. Can we share the house for the night?”
Hearing this, Mo Chenxuan, Qin Wu, Xu Fei, and Lin Rongrong looked at each other and subtly nodded.
“We are staying on the second floor. You can stay on the first floor.” Qin Wu said.
“The first floor is enough.” Wang Ming nodded but soon frowned.
“Do we have to use the ladder?” He asked, looking at several children and old women.
“Wait until we enter. We will open the door from the inside.” Qin Wu said.
“Thank you, four friends.” The man happily said and walked away to tell his people.
Seeing this, the four didn’t waste time.
They quickly climbed the ladder and arrived on the second floor.
“Is it okay to let them stay?” Lin Rongrong asked.
Although she was kind, she was also cautious.
At this time, her mind was torn in two.
On one hand, she wanted to let the people stay, and on the other, she worried those people were dangerous.
“It’s okay.” Qin Wu sneered but didn’t say more.
After that, the four went downstairs and moved the furniture blocking the front door.
When that was done, they reminded Wang Ming to keep his people on the first floor before returning to their area.
On the second floor, the four took turns to shower.
After that, they gathered in the second-floor sitting room to have dinner.
“That Wang Ming doesn’t look like a good person.” Xu Fei suddenly said.
“You also think so? His eyes are shifty, and his smile is not sincere.” Lin Rongrong said.
Hearing this, Qin Wu chuckled before she spoke.
“We just need to do things according to our conscience. They can’t blame us for being rude if they don’t appreciate our kindness.”
“Qin Wu, do you think they going to do something?” Lin Rongrong asked, her eyes wider than coins.
“Without a doubt.” Qin Wu nodded before she continued.
“That group has some restless people. What do you think will happen when they realise there are no supplies on the first floor?”
“They will think we have moved all the supplies to the second floor.” Lin Rongrong immediately said, and Qin Wu nodded.
“They have more people and more superpowers. The only reason they didn’t attack us when they first saw us is because they didn’t know if we had accomplices in the houses.” Mo Chenxuan said.
“I see.” Lin Rongrong couldn’t help but be depressed.
“We won’t take the initiative, but if they attack us, we won’t be merciful.” Qin Wu said, her eyes narrowed into slits.
“The situation has changed, and the house is not secure. We will sleep in one room tonight.” Mo Chenxuan said, and everyone nodded.
After dinner, the four went to Qin Wu’s bedroom and prepared to sleep.
“Rongrong and I will take the first watch.” Xu Fei said before the other couple could offer.
After all, Mo Chenxuan and Qin Wu had not woken them the previous night.
“The situation has changed, so don’t stay up the whole night. Wake us when it’s time to wake up.” Mo Chenxuan reminded, and Xu Fei nodded.
After settling the watch matters, Mo Chenxuan and Qin Wu went to sleep while Xu Fei and Lin Rongrong sat outside the door to keep watch.
