Rebirth: Love in the Apocalypse - Chapter 75
Chapter 75: Two Things
“No. Two serious matters.” Uncle Zhang corrected himself.
“Say.”
“First, the Qin family sent people to invite the young madam to the Qin house.” The housekeeper said and Qin Wu sneered in disgust.
She understood the thought process of the Qin family.
Unfortunately, she was unwilling to cooperate.
If the Qin family insisted on messing with her, Qin Wu didn’t mind dealing with them.
Seeing Qin Wu’s reaction, uncle Zhang sighed in relief.
It was reasonable for a family to occasionally invite its married daughter.
However, the people who came to invite Qin Wu didn’t look friendly and always gave uncle Zhang a bad feeling.
Because of this, uncle Zhang put his mind on the Qin family and eventually discovered what the family was plotting.
“Young master, young madam, the Qin family has recently been investigating the young men in the base. From what I heard, the family intends to arrange a marriage for the young madam.”
Qin Wu was almost pissed to death!
Although she knew the Qin family’s virtue, she didn’t expect them to be so presumptuous.
After all, she had repaid what she owed before severing ties with the Qin family.
Based on that, the Qin family had no right arrange anything for her.
Thinking that the Qin family did not take her brother Chenxuan seriously, Qin Wu was so angry that her eyes turned red.
Mo Chenxuan was similarly angry.
He never thought the Qin family would go so far.
But since they had brought themselves to his door, Mo Chenxuan didn’t mind teaching them a lesson.
“Young master…” Uncle Zhang started with a conflicted expression.
“Just say whatever is on your mind.” Mo Chenxuan urged.
“Miss Qin Lan has been here several times.” Uncle Zhang started and quickly continued.
“She appears worried about the young madam but her intentions are unclear. I think she is targeting the young master.”
Mo Chenxuan was a little surprised when he heard that.
After the incident in the market, Qin Wu predicted that Qin Lan would pursue Mo Chenxuan.
However, Mo Chenxuan felt this was not possible.
After all, he had insulted Qin Lan and made her lose all her face.
Unexpectedly, Qin WU was right and the inexplicable woman had now set her sight on him.
‘There must be something wrong with her brain.’ He thought and sneered, a cold light flashing in his eyes.
If he was alone, Mo Chenxuan wouldn’t care about a delusional girl.

However, he was with Qin Wu and Mo Chenxuan didn’t want his woman to suffer any injustice.
For that reason, Mo Chenxuan didn’t plan to be kind to Qin Lan.
“We understand, Wu’er and I will be careful.” Mo Chenxuan said and uncle Zhang nodded in approval.
He and his wife liked Qin Wu very much.
Most importantly, his young master loved the young madam every much.
Considering that, the Zhang couple didn’t want any accidents to happen to disrupt the harmony between the affectionate couple.
“What’s the second matter?” Mo Chenxuan asked and uncle Zhang’s face became solemn.
“Something happened right before the zombification incidents started.” The man started but Mo Chenxuan and Qin Wu didn’t urge him to continue.
After thinking for a moment, he continued.
“Several important leaders suddenly proposed to sell some of the undeveloped land.”
Mo Chenxuan frowned when he heard that.
In base B, survivors could lease many things including land, houses, and shops.
However, the underlying ownership always remained in the hands of the base.
Hearing that the base planned to sell land, Mo Chenxuan couldn’t help but be surprised and a thoughtful look flashed in his eyes.
“What else do you know about the proposal?”
“The proposal only targets the undeveloped land in zone E. It’s highly likely that the base will begin selling that land.”
“What about the price?” Qin Wu asked but uncle Zhang shook his head.
Because of the zombification incidents, the proposal was shelved for time being.
However, uncle Zhang believed that the leadership would revisit the matter as soon as the zombification incidents ended.
“Brother Chenxuan…” Qin Wu called and Mo Chenxuan nodded.
This was their opportunity!
At the moment, they had the main team, an affiliated team, a villa compound, several apartments, and abundant supplies.
However, they lacked an army and cohesion of resources.
If he and Qin Wu bought large tracts of land, they would be able to develop their power more steadily.
“I don’t know the price of the land but I know some of the proposed requirements for land owners.” Uncle Zhang said and quickly continued when he saw he had the two people’s attention.
“First is property tax which will be paid in the form of crystal cores or other supplies. This requirement is similar to what we already pay for this villa compound.”
When the base was first established, the leadership did not confiscate people’s property.
As long as a survivor could show a deed of ownership, they were able to keep their property but the related taxes were indispensable.
“Makes sense.” Qin Wu said and Mo Chenxuan nodded.
It was only naturally for land owners to pay property taxes.
After all, the land was within the base and had access to base conveniences.
“The second provision is contribution to the base. Land owners will be required to contribute to the defence and operations of the base.”
“What does that mean?” Qin Wu asked.
“Defence has two aspects. The first is contributing in wall fortifications and the second is participating in defence and counterattack during zombie sieges. The necessary contribution is proportional to the size of land owned.”
Mo Chenxuan and Qin Wu looked at each other when they heard that.
Theoretically, the proposed plan was a good idea.
However, the current base was too corrupt.
If someone cut corners or failed to meet their end of the deal, the base could find itself in a very passive position.
“Uncle Zhang, what’s the specific requirement for contributing to the operations of the base?”
“Land owners will be required to undertake some tasks on behalf of the base. For example, using a portion of their purchased land to test the viability of growing a certain grain or mutant plant.”
“Of course, all the incurred expenses will be borne by the land owner. However, if the matter is successful, the land owner will take charge of the operation.”
At a glance, this sounded like a good deal.
However, Mo Chenxuan and Qin Wu were reborn people.
In their previous life, humans did indeed find a way to grow food on the apocalypse soil.
Unfortunately, this had nothing to do with genetically modified seeds, special water, or even special nutrients.
If land owners devoted part of their land to agricultural pursuit in hopes of turning a profit, they would surely bankrupt themselves before they saw the light.
“Will all the tasks be related to food production?” Qin Wu asked and only sighed in relief when uncle Zhang shook his head.
“The third and final condition is housing.” Uncle Zhang said.
“Housing?”
“At least ten percent of the land must be used to house survivors. Of course, the proposal doesn’t require free housing. It just requires that land owners build houses which survivors can rent.”
“Are there restrictions to what landowners can do with the land?” Mo Chenxuan asked and uncle Zhang shook his head.
“Aside from the third provision, there is no other restriction for the time being.”
After that, Mo Chenxuan and Qin Wu fell into thought.
Even thinking with their toes, they knew the land business was a way for the leadership to more openly grab resources.
However, Mo Chenxuan and Qin Wu didn’t want to give up this opportunity.
With land, they could build a small kingdom within the base.
“What do you think?” Qin Wu asked, looking at Mo Chenxuan.
“The Generals and other leaders have armies that help them collect supplies and crystal cores.” Mo Chenxuan started and quickly continued.
“I don’t think we will lose in terms of supplies but it’s better to buy land with crystal cores. It’s not a good idea to expose our supplies so early in the apocalypse.”
“I agree.” Qin Wu nodded.
She was also worried about this.
Although their team was powerful and had killed many zombies and mutant beasts, she was worried they didn’t have enough crystal cores.
Most importantly, some of their crystal cores had already been purified and couldn’t be used for transactions.
“Brother Chenxuan, shall we secretly sell some of our purified crystal cores? We can sell one for two or one for three.” Qin Wu suggested.
“It’s a viable idea.” Mo Chenxuan nodded.
He was the only level three superpower in the base.
If he used his spiritual ability to hide himself, no one would be able to see through it.
Considering that, he felt it was not impossible to secretly trade the purified crystal cores for unpurified ones.
After all, they now had energy stones and energy beads and didn’t need too many crystal cores.
