Rebirth: Love in the Apocalypse - Chapter 85
Chapter 85: Second Target
After supper, team Legends sat together poring over a map.
“We are here and our next target is here.” Qin Wu traced a line on the map.
“I seem to know this place.” Xiao Junxie frowned.
“It’s a flowers and birds’ market.” Lin Rongrong said and also frowned.
From her experience, such a place was a death trap.
After all, any surviving plants would be mutated and the birds were likely zombies or mutated beasts.
“It’s a dangerous place.” Xu Fei also agreed.
“Shouldn’t this kind of mission be rank B or A?” Lu Hao asked.
“It would but this is not the first time the mission has been issued.” Xiao Junxie informed and everyone turned to look at him.
“It was a rank B mission when it was first issued. Since then, many teams have explored the market and most of the threats have been eliminated. As a result, the mission has downgraded to rank C.”
“Is that so?” Lin Rongrong nodded in understanding and turned to Qin Wu.
“Sister Mo, what’s our mission?” She asked.
“Collecting mutant plant seeds.” Qin Wu said.
This kind of mission was not uncommon.
On one hand, agriculture researchers liked to study mutant plant seeds in hopes of developing edible plant seeds that could thrive in the apocalypse soil.
Additionally, other researchers studied the seeds to develop medicines and other products.
For those reasons, Qin Wu didn’t dislike these missions because they usually resulted in tangible development.
“Are we in a hurry to get to our target location?” Lu Hao asked.
“We won’t rush but we won’t take detours.” Mo Chenxuan said.
Although he was anxious to complete the missions so that team Legends could become a rank A team, Mo Chenxuan didn’t plan to rush without stopping.
After all, he and Qin Wu were short of crystal cores.
Since they had an opportunity, he planned to harvest as many crystal cores as possible in preparation for the land sale.
“We will travel as usual.” Qin Wu reiterated.
After that, excluding those on night watch, the others laid out their sleeping bags and prepared to rest.
The night was uneventful and everyone woke before seven.
At exactly seven, the team had breakfast, rolled up their sleeping bags, and left the classroom.
Unexpectedly, they encountered team Overlord as they were about to board their vehicles and leave the school compound.
“Good morning. Are you also leaving?” Song Feng greeted.
“We are about to head out. What about you? Are you going back to the base or do you have other missions?” Qin Wu asked.

“We are just about to head to the Flowers and birds’ market.”
“Us too. What a coincidence!” Qin Wu almost sneered.
“It’s indeed a coincidence.” Song Feng chuckled and quickly continued.
“Why don’t we travel together since we are going to the same place?” He asked.
Hearing this, Qin Wu turned to Mo Chenxuan and the man nodded before speaking.
“Why not?!” He said but his eyes narrowed into slits.
When he and Qin Wu chose the missions, they considered several others before settling on the Flowers and Birds market.
On one hand, the pay was good but most importantly, the Flowers and Birds market was on the direct route to their final destination.
When he heard that team Overlord was also going to the Flowers and Birds market, Mo Chenxuan couldn’t help but be suspicious.
After all, the task was only rank C.
Since team Overlord was a tier A team and had more options, why didn’t they choose better tasks along the same route?
Thinking about this, Mo Chenxuan became surer that team Overlord was intentionally following them.
However, he still didn’t know the reason which is why he allowed the teams to act together.
“Our team is ready to leave. What about yours?” Qin Wu asked.
“We are also ready.” Song Feng said.
Soon after, a large convoy exited the school compound and headed east.
In their Hummer, Qin Wu had a thoughtful expression.
“What’s on your mind?” Mo Chenxuan asked.
“Brother Chenxuan, do you think we have the same final destination?” She asked.
If possible, she hoped she was overthinking.
After all, if the teams cooperated to complete the Pine Fresh mission, they would have to share the pay.
Most importantly, there was a possibility they would face level three zombies and mutated zombie foetuses at the Pine Fresh Maternity hospital.
When that happened, team Legends wouldn’t be able to hold back and their full strength would be exposed.
Qin Wu didn’t want this to happen.
“Wu’er, Xuanyuan Yi won’t leave you alone.” Mo Chenxuan suddenly said and Qin Wu sighed.
She also knew this.
Before the apocalypse, Xuanyuan Yi was just a rich second generation.
He had no real power and most relied on his family’s power.
However, things were different in the apocalypse.
Because of his extraordinary power, Xuanyuan Yi had carved a place for himself in the apocalypse.
Most importantly, he had established himself as the most talented and powerful amongst the base superpowers.
Unfortunately, Xuanyuan Yi had the kind of personality that couldn’t tolerate others being better than him.
Now that he encountered Qin Wu, he would definitely not leave her alone.
“He must be worried especially because I was originally from the Qin family.” Qin Wu smirked.
“The Qin family will also not let you go when they discover your ability level.”
Qin Wu groaned when she heard this.
However, she wasn’t worried.
As long as she had Mo Chenxuan, she wouldn’t worry about anything.
After all, she was a grown up.
Even if she was grateful to the Qin family for raising her, she had long repaired that debt and no longer owed them anything.
On the contrary, the Qin family owed her for what happened in her previous life.
Thinking of her previous life, Qin Wu frowned and clenched her hands.
However, she soon regained her composure and suppressed the negative emotions in her heart.
“Do you regret getting involved with me?” Qin Wu asked and Mo Chenxuan chuckled in amusement.
“How is that possible?” He said, reaching over to rub the woman’s hair.
“Fortunately, there is no Mo family to trouble us.”
“Brother Chenxuan…” Qin Wu muttered feeling a little uncomfortable.
“Did you ever think about finding them?” She suddenly asked.
“No.” Mo Chenxuan shook his head.
Although he grew up in an orphanage, he had always been self-sufficient and never felt like he was missing anything.
Because of this, his parents and other unknown relatives never presented as important in his heart.
“You are all the family I need.” He said, smiling at Qin Wu.
“You are also all I need.” Qin Wu said.
Although the team chose the most direct route to the Flowers and Birds market, the distance wasn’t short.
Most importantly, the road was full of scattered zombies, debris, and stalled vehicles.
Consequently, members of team Legends and team Overlord often needed to disembark to kill zombies and clear the road.
Time passed and before they knew it, it was three days later.
On this day, the leading car suddenly stopped at a road fork.
“The market is two hundred metres on our right.” A voice sounded from the walkie-talkie.
“Brother Lu, make way for us. We will take the lead.” Qin Wu instructed.
“Got it.”
Soon after, the front car made way and the Hummer squeezed through the available gap.
“Brother Chenxuan, do you see anything?” Qin Wu asked, looking at Mo Chenxuan.
“It’s going to be easier than expected.” Mo Chenxuan said.
He originally thought they would encounter a large number of zombie birds or mutated birds.
However, he counted less than a dozen zombie birds and several dozen mutated plants.
“Really?”
“Really. Maybe most of the zombie birds migrated or they were killed by previous groups.”
“I hope they were killed.” Qin Wu sighed.
After all, if they just migrated, it meant they would later emerge as a bigger threat.
Thinking of what happened in her previous life, Qin Wu couldn’t help but shudder.
“Humans are too conceited.” She muttered and Mo Chenxuan chuckled.
“Why do you say that?” He asked.
“We are all focusing on zombies, mutated beasts, and mutated plants but ignoring the biggest threats.”
“Mmh.” Mo Chenxuan nodded.
In his previous life, human beings only focused on the obvious threats only to end up capsizing in the gutter.
As it turned out, human and animal zombies, and mutated beasts and plants were the least of humanities problems.
Rather than these, insects, birds, and sea beasts were the real threats.
Zombie insects were especially terrible and were the direct cause for humanity’s downfall.
‘We can’t prevent zombie insects from appearing but we can make better plans to deal with them. Otherwise, the previous life’s tragedy will be repeated in this life.’ Mo Chenxuan thought.
“We are almost there.” Qin Wu spoke into the walkie-talkie.
At the same time, a flock of zombie birds noticed the convoy and began rushing over.
‘Here they come.’ Qin Wu thought.
