Rebirth of Billionaire's Wife - Chapter 100
Chapter 100: Brakes failed
When Gabriel, Eveline, and Stefan arrived at the hospital, they discovered that the driver was in good condition and had only sustained a few minor scratches.
Before they chose to intervene, he was occupied with making a statement to the police officer regarding the whole incident.
Once finished, they all went into the ward.
“What caused this, Jay?” Gabriel asked intently. It was unexpected to witness such a serious injury to one of the skilled drivers. Still, he felt thankful the accident was not more serious.
“I discovered the oil leak gasket and chose to have the car towed in for repair, but while I was traveling, I discovered the brakes were not functioning. I had the car pulled over the cement slope for a safe stop.” Jay explained.
Eveline scowled as some doubts were raised by Jay’s remarks. The brakes failed first, followed by a leak in the gasket. Why does everything occur at the same moment? In addition, Gabriel would not have driven the vehicle if it was in poor condition.
“Should you have neglected to travel in the car if there was a problem?” inquired Eveline.
Both Gabriel and Stefan looked at her, their eyes scrutinizing her intriguing query.
“Indeed, however, the vehicle remained in excellent shape throughout. How come the brakes suddenly failed, I wonder?” His remarks did catch Stefan and Gabriel’s attention. interest.
Indeed, the two began to comprehend Eveline’s skepticism.
“That is alright. I am relieved that you were not harmed.” Gabriel said putting an end to this awkward situation.
Gabriel was certain that Jay would not intentionally hurt him, but something made him wonder: maybe someone had broken the brakes on purpose while he was not around.
After they left the hospital, Gabriel asked Stefan to contact Dr. Lilith because he was unable to do so. She had switched off her phone, and there was no way he would storm her home to carry out this deceit.
“Do not worry, I will find a way to contact her,” Stefan reassured before driving off from there.
Gabriel then turned to look at Eveline, who seemed quite off with the entire thing. The frown marred on her face was the epitome of her thinking hard about the whole accident.
“I know what you are thinking, but trust me, Jay will not purposely bring the car just to land them in a fatal accident.” Gabriel’s voice cut through her thoughts and he shook her head, refuting his assertion.
“It is not about Jay, but the person who got your car’s brake failed,” she uttered, her eyes shining with concern.
Sighing, Gabriel drew her into his arms.
“Do not worry, nothing happened to me,” he reassured her, which calmed her racing thoughts.
Her heart ached at the idea of Gabriel trapped in the car, facing the collision. Even though she would not allow herself to feel anything for him, she would never want anything to happen to him.
Eveline closed her eyes and hugged him back. This soothing embrace of his would wash away all her worries.
Once she felt better, they soon drove home.
All that conspired today was not something they expected, but knowing Alex was saved again wounded Eveline’s heart. There was something off they couldn’t see, but she was determined to get through the roots of everything.

Stefan arrived at Hayes International on his bike and discovered that Ella was still working.
“You should have been volunteering at the college medical camp, but you are here already,” Ella said, observing Stefan standing by the door and giving her a fixed look.
Even though she was wary of his stare, she carried on as usual.
Stefan tucked his hand into the pocket and made his way towards her. “It ended sooner, so I decided to pay my visit to the office. Are you still working?” he asked.
“Well, I am done. I only have a few things to fix,” she remarked. Her hands glided smoothly across the keyboard as she fixed her gaze on the screen in front of her.

Stefan couldn’t remove his eyes from her and a small tug appeared on his lips.
“Have you thought about what we discussed earlier?” he asked abruptly, causing her to stop working and turn to face him with a slight furrow in her brow.
“How could I find out what we discussed? You were not here the entire day.” Ella questioned him in jest, and he shook his head negatively.
“It’s not about today, but yesterday. Have you considered my words?” He asked and this time the smile on her face vanished.
“Stefan, we are not talking about it? I believe that I made it apparent yesterday.”
With a sigh, Stefan pulled a chair over and took a seat in front of her.
“Why? Are you worried that you will fall in love with me?” he asked, stumbling closer.
The sight of his endearing smile made Ella swallow. This was not a Greek God made to look that way.
She could not help but be drawn to him because of his striking appearance, which included his blonde hair and deep grey eyes.
“Am I right, El?” he asked, breaking her trance.
Ella’s dizzy thoughts faded after hearing his voice and she quickly looked away.
“No, you are wrong. That won’t happen,” she declined, absentmindedly tapping her fingers on the keyboard.
Stefan chuckled at her stubbornness and sighed.
Ella was far more difficult to persuade, but it was fascinating to watch her wince at everything he said.
Ella stood out from the other women he had met, who were not afraid to express their desires to him and were bold and demanding.
He would go limp at the sight of her flushed cheeks alone.
A girl expressing her shyness in anger was something he had never seen before.
“Alright, if that is what you say, but even so, I would wait for the day you give it some thought,” he said, brushing off the issue for the time being but being prepared to give her space to consider it.
“Well, there is something else I wanted to mention.” He said, departing from the subject at hand.
Ella nodded, but she would not look past him.
She knew she would be doomed if she allowed herself to be influenced by him.
Stefan sat up straight on the chair and asked, “Are you close to Dr. Lilith?”
Ella scowled and turned to face him in confusion.
“How do you know her? Gasp, don’t tell me you are her patient.” Ella did not listen to him and came to her own conclusion about everything.
“Sorry to say, but you are incorrect. I do not need any counseling because I am doing great.” Stefan refused, and she eased up only to scowl once more.
“Then, why would you ask about her?” She asked, squinting her eyes curiously.
“First, answer my question,” he firmly said, which infuriated her.
“It is not that much, but I do plan to speak with her elderly mother as we frequently cross paths,” she finally replied, providing him with the necessary response.
“Now tell me, what makes you want to know about her?” She asked, striking back.
“Just like that.” He crossed his legs and said, “I am just a bit curious about her.”
Ella closed her eyes, forced herself to breathe deeply, and tried not to get angry before going back to work.
Stefan remained silent the entire time, but Ella could feel his gaze on her, and when she eventually finished her work, they both left the office building.
“What are you going to cook today, by the way?” Stefan hopped onto his bike and said, “I am starving.”
He smoothed his sleek hair back and put on his helmet, waiting for her response.
“You know I ought to ask Boss for a pay raise.” Ella said as she quickly mounted the bike.
Leaning closer to his ear with her hand resting on his shoulder, she spoke, “For babysitting his son.”
Stefan shot her a sidelong glance, obviously not expecting Ella to make fun of him.
“You refuse to give me food?” He inquired.
“Mister, is there a way I can turn you down? You have been eating dinner at my house or with me ever since I can remember.” She said sarcastically only making Stefan ignore her.
He knew she was just pulling his leg and there was no way she would ignore his request, not when he had been enjoying her homemade food despite being bland and burned.
As they reached her place, Ella noticed a few cops having a conversation with a woman.
“Has something gone wrong here?” she whispered as she hurried off the bike.
Stefan squinted at the scene that was playing out in front of him. Looking at the cops, he then moved his gaze towards the woman, who happened to be none other than Dr. Lilith.
Stefan quickly recalled Dr. Lilith’s location and found her house on the first day he arrived at Ella’s place. Although it was coincidental, Stefan made sure to stalk her in a low-key manner.
Dr. Lilith was an old resident who lived with her old mother and was a divorcee. She came across Alex’s case through a mutual friend who happens to be friends with his mother.
Because of her professional skills, she was able to control Alex’s rage and provide him with years of support and guidance. However, in these few years, Alex happened to be ignorant of paying his visit to her, as he thought he had already healed.
The cops soon left and Dr. Lilith too; however, Ella came to learn about the problem through a guard.
A thief had broken into their home by posing as a plumber and was attacking the elderly woman. Before leaving the house, the man recorded her screams without inflicting any harm on her.
The attack knocked the elderly woman out, and when she woke up hours later, she started screaming and drawing the attention of her neighbors, who happened to run to her rescue.
