Chapter 105: A favor

[Ella’s Cabin]

“She seemed a little off this time. Perhaps the incident has left her traumatized, I suppose,” Ella remarked thoughtfully as she disclosed her visit to Lilith’s house before Stefan.

Though Ella was not sure why he asked her to see the woman, she was happy that she did. Although Ms. Volkov was fortunate that the intruder did not hurt her, she could not shake the feeling that both of the women were concealing something.

Stefan remained silent and continued to look straight ahead. He seemed to be thinking very deeply about something, which piqued Ella’s interest.

“What is going on, Stefan?” she inquired, examining his composed demeanor closely.

Ella was more dubious about Stefan’s interest than Ms. Volkov. She sensed that he was searching for something, even though he made an effort to seem sincere about it.

The instant she said those words, Stefan gave her a sidelong glance and sighed.

“I am attempting to assist my friend, and Dr. Lilith is the sole individual who can assist us,” he uttered, shocking Ella.

Stefan knew he could trust Ella on this so he immediately told her the entire story.

Ella found the whole thing surprising. She questioned whether he was a student at a university or a spy, working covertly to identify the perpetrator.

Stefan’s talents once again astounded her, and she could not help but be drawn to him.

He stated gravely, “We do suspect someone, but we do not have any concrete evidence against him.”

Gabriel shared his and Eveline’s reservations about Alex, but regardless of their convictions, they still required solid proof against him.

“You believed you could utilize me to extract everything from the elderly woman?” She asked and he awkwardly cleared his throat.

“I wasn’t using you. I was just trying to guide you,” he defended himself.

Ella laughed at his adorable response, her smile surprising him.

He did not dare to keep it from her, and he even told her why he did it, so she was not offended by his actions. But getting the old lady to tell her the whole truth would be a hassle for her as they appeared all reserved about the whole situation.

Following her discovery of Stefan’s version of events, Ella realized why Lilith had declined to file a complaint despite having many doubts about the individual in question.

“Do not worry, I will try my hardest to help you and get the information, but I need something in return.” She remarked, gazing into his calm, grey eyes.

“What favor?” he inquired, his eyes narrowing with interest.

Ella was hesitant, but she had to ask him to help her out of this mess.

“You must act like you are my boyfriend before my mother,” she said, turning to face Stefan with embarrassment.

The moment she released those words, a playful grin appeared on his lips, making her furrow in response.

Stefan couldn’t stop smiling, despite Ella shooting daggers at him.

“Hey, I did not accept your suggestion. It is just that I am in a tough situation and you have to act like your boyfriend right now,” she said, piquing Stefan’s interest.

Ella’s mother confronted her over the phone last night regarding her breakup with Max and her new boyfriend. She was disappointed that her daughter kept such a huge thing from her and now she wanted to know the boy she was dating currently.

Although Ella’s mother liked Max, she was not happy to hear that Ella had broken up with him in favor of a new boy. But Ella’s suspicions were confirmed when she looked into it more and discovered that a man had been to her apartment.

Ella told her mother about Max’s infidelity however she was keen to meet the guy she was together with. Her one lie to face slap Max turned out to be a concern as she failed to come clean to her mother about it and now she was coming to meet her.

Ella knew her mother was heartbroken by her breakup and she didn’t want to hurt her further by telling the truth behind her and Stefan’s fake relationship they portrayed before Max.

“Listen, it’s just a matter of a few days. Once she is gone we can go back to being as we are” Ella negotiated, hoping Stefan would not misinterpret her.

Stefan continued to stare at her, and although she might see this as a brief diversion, he would seize the chance to win her over.

In addition to being drawn to Ella, Stefan was prepared to play the role of her pretend boyfriend for the rest of his life because he had a burning desire to give her everything.

Although he knew Ella secretly admired him, she might find faults in this relationship and resist being persuaded. Even if she would not say it, her expressive eyes would say it all.

Stefan wanted to know what Ella had in store for them, so he asked, “Okay, but what if she believes us and asks us to get married? What will you do then?”

“Let us play for a while, and I can tell her when she brings it up that the reason we broke up was busy life”

Stefan scoffed, thinking her remarks were ridiculous.

“So why not just her right now? Why deceive her and then break her heart later?” he asked, his eyes growing serious as he studied her.

Ella bit her lip, feeling intimidated by his intense stare. He was correct, but her heart was unprepared to handle any emotional turmoil that could jeopardize her mother’s health.

“Will you help me or not?” she shot back a serious gaze at him despite her hesitation and Stefan couldn’t help but nod.

Although it pained him to see her hiding her concerns from him, he was powerless before her when he realized she was acting in her mother’s best interests.

“Okay, let us get started. When will she arrive?” He asked, brushing off his worries, then decisively turned to face Ella.

“She invites you to join us for dinner this evening.” Stefan merely nodded as Ella explained her actions.

“Trust me, you will not have to worry later, as she will be staying here for just a day and leaving by tomorrow,” Ella said.

Ella was ready to introduce him as her fake boyfriend before everyone, but she wasn’t ready to give him a chance to pursue her. Displeased, he simply diverted his attention back to his work and continued to work
