Chapter 109: A curse

“Your attempt to persuade my mother went too far. It would be harder to tell her the truth later.” Ella and Stefan left the building, but her words stopped him in his tracks, and he turned to face her.

“Who said I was lying? Everything I said was true, and you know it,” Stefan said, disappointed that she was still considering telling her mother the truth about their relationship after he had poured out all of his heart.

Sometimes he wondered if Ella was really too stupid to deliberately ignore him, or if she just did not understand him at all.

Ella turned to face Stefan, noting the gloomy expression on his face. She did not understand what he was attempting to accomplish, but she also knew Stefan would not mean anything he said.

Someone who encouraged her to try falling in love with him in order to move past her heartbreak would not show up to make such a confession.

She was afraid in the wrong way because it was far too poetic and real.

Ella blinked when Stefan moved closer to her.

“Believe it or not, whatever I said inside was true and those words came from the bottom of my heart,” Stefan said, stubbing Ella dumb.

Stefan knew Ella would never notice his reflex, so he decided to forgo his original plan to take things slowly.

“This relationship may seem fake to you, but it is real to me. Thus, do not even consider retreating because I will stop at nothing at this point.” Ella shuddered at the touch of Stefan, his words hitting her like a thunderbolt.

“S-Stefan that’s not fair. You can’t-”

“In love and war, all is fair. And believe me, El—I can not help but fall deeply in love with you. Thus, you can either embrace it or allow me to take the lead,” Stefan muttered, staring intently into her brown eyes.

Ella felt that she was being taken advantage of, but why could she not prove it? They were supposed to pretend but Stefan took advantage of her weakness and had already made his move.

“I know you are confused and you have to be but do not worry; I will help you overcome that confusion,” Stefan whispered as he slowly brought his hand to her waist and gently drew her closer.

His eyes sparkle with delight as he observes Ella struggling to find the right words because of how close they were.

He was aware that Ella was confused as a result of Max’s hurtful remarks, but he would make sure she understood how valuable she is, which is independent of anyone’s opinion. Before she lets him into her life, he would make her fall in love with herself.

Stefan had never felt so enamored with someone before, but Ella was not just any person—she was the girl who, unbeknownst to him, secretly altered his heart.

He got to know her even better through the sobering confession that began the conversation. Although he did not realize it at the time, he was drawn to her and felt a surprising amount of love for her.

He turned to face her, took a slow step forward, and kissed her cheeks.

“Good night.” he said, releasing her waist and drawing away.

Ella remained motionless, staring at the persistent smile on his face as he returned the stare. She could not resist feeling his lips linger on her cheeks as something inside of her began to stir. Her hand settled on it, and a smile appeared on her lips as she felt the warmth seep into her heart.

“Good night,” she murmured absently as she met his mesmerizing grey eyes.

Ella watched as he grinned at her and drove away in his car.

Her face turned red with shyness, and she could feel her heartbeat and blood rushing through her veins.

While she was preoccupied with her thoughts, the girl was the target of someone is distant glances as they gradually grew darker before they withdrew.

In the meantime, Eveline stormed into Jonathan’s room back at the Miller Mansion and declared, “Dad, I will not marry Gabriel. I am not in love with him.

Her statement left Jonathan stunned, but he quickly recovered and said, “But is he not pursuing you, and as far as I know, you permitted him, right?”

Gabriel explained to them how he had twisted Eveline’s words to get her to give him a chance, but Eveline was not happy about that.

She was just going with the flow in order to come to terms with her feelings towards Gabriel, but that didn’t mean she had to marry him.

She had no intention of getting married.

“Dad, he is still pursuing me I have not said “yes” to him.” Eveline lost her temper, feeling overpowered by this abrupt disclosure that had left her angry.

How could Grandpa make such a request? Surely, they would always be close friends and only need to fortify their bond by marrying off their grandchildren?

Jonathan sighed, acknowledging her annoyance. Though he knew this would occur, he did not realize it too soon.

Eveline had always had a soft spot for Gabriel; she would never let him go and would follow him everywhere. They got the feeling that she was partial to him and that they would have no trouble talking about this arrangement between the two families.

However, following the revelation of the truth, he could tell that Eveline was not happy about it.

Taking Eveline’s words into consideration, Jonathan said, “Then why not let him court you and see where this goes? If you still do not feel anything, then I will talk to Belle and Richard about it.”

His approach to parenting was always to let his daughter make her own decisions. But because he knew that everything Gabriel said about his intentions to win her over was true, he would give him a fair chance to approach her.

Eveline gave Jonathan a doubtful glance before letting out a relieved breath. Then she moved to sit beside him on the couch, and she gave him a hug.

She saw marriage as a curse that would only make her miserable. Her life became uncontrollably spiraling after she married Gabriel, and she was unable to escape it. From finding herself falling into deep ends to losing her life, everything was crystal clear.

Marriage with Gabriel only gave her endless pain that carved deeply into her heart to erase.
