Rebirth of Billionaire's Wife - Chapter 117
Chapter 117: Help me to sleep
Even though it was pouring outside, Eveline was engrossed in the scenery right away. Like the rain, she felt the stains of her past deeply engraved in her heart, just as her life flowed like water.
The sight was both beautiful and painful because it brought back intense memories of something very personal to her.
Standing by the window frame, Eveline smiled with misty eyes and said, “I remember how much you liked rain, baby.” Her hand reflexively touched her flat abdomen, reminiscing about her unborn child.
Eveline would always be in despair, wondering what her life would have been like if she hadn’t died. Will she be able to live with her child and divorce Gabriel, or will she continue to play dumb and live with him and his mistress under the same roof?
She was pathetic back then, thinking that knowing about their baby would finally give Gabriel peace of mind and let him accept her for his own sake.
She realized it was impossible to reclaim what she had lost, and her life would continue without any possibility of ever having the kid again.
For her, it was a fruitful dream born out of her love for Gabriel, but it would never come true.
The child she kept talking to became a beautiful memory that she wished to treasure even after she died.
Eveline had previously given Gabriel permission to court her, but the doubt remains. Though she knew this existence was vastly different from her previous one, with everything now coming to light and no longer hidden, there were still some unanswered questions.
She knew Tiffany was the one who poisoned Gabriel’s mind against her, but that wasn’t the whole truth. The voice she was hearing out of nowhere seemed distant but familiar, which inhibited her from truly embracing reality.
Eveline took a deep breath, pushed away all of her heavy thoughts, and tried to call Stefan again, but his phone was turned off this time, putting a stop to her curiosity.
After he recovered the video from Lilith’s phone, it was revealed that Alex was the one who coerced her to change the outcome, but the rest of what they discovered left her speechless.
Dr. Lilith and Alex’s father, Henry, were having a covert affair, and the photographs on her phone were living proof. However, it was unclear if Alex was aware of it or simply intimidated her for fear of being exposed.
“Everything is becoming messier. If Alex was unaware of his father’s involvement with his doctor, why would he suddenly cease visiting her? Perhaps there was something else that prevented him from attending the session,” she pondered.
It is safe to assume that Alex knew this secret because of the conversation she had in the coffee shop, which revealed details about his relationship with his family.
As strange as it may sound, he appears to have developed a deep-rooted case of this syndrome as a result of his surroundings, which he ultimately found comfort in.
“It makes sense why his parents appear to be in such harmony at all business functions.” Eveline scoffed at the thought of how influential families try to conceal the reality of their relationship behind a facade.
Yes, Alex’s family was regarded as one of the most influential, but no one was aware of what lay within. It was odd that, up until this photo leak incident, they had hardly even met their son, who was a student there.
Alex was that anonymous student who was invisible to everyone’s eyes; however, no one could hide from his gaze. He was strange and emitted a spooky aura that prevented anyone from approaching him, but it was she who approached the stone to strike her head and felt the pain that lasted till now.
She was about to turn in for the day and go to bed when her phone rang, startling her out of her reverie.
Her eyes instantly fell on the screen; however, the gleam of hope died in an instant, knowing who it was.
She took a deep breath and answered the phone, but what she heard next stopped her cold.

Eveline hurried downstairs and opened the main door, only to see Gabriel standing there, completely drenched.
Her eyes leaped out of her socket as she took in his gorgeous, wet appearance, but she pushed those fleeting thoughts aside and questioned, “Why would you drive here when it’s raining? Are you not afraid of falling ill or having an accident?”
Eveline was shocked that Gabriel would drive this far to her house—especially in the pouring rain. She was aware that he had been experiencing extreme mood swings lately. But instead of responding to her, he simply stared at her and the next thing she felt was him pulling her into a bone-crushing hug.
Gabriel’s action startled Eveline, but she did not respond and allowed him to give her a hug.
“I couldn’t sleep. Help me to sleep,” he muttered after a long pause, leaving Eveline speechless on her ground.

Eveline held her breath as she cautiously closed her room’s door and locked it from the inside before turning to face Gabriel.
She sprinted towards him, her expression instantly changing from fear to frustration, asking, “Who the hell does that Gabriel? Really, you drove all the way here in this torrential downpour because you were unable to sleep? Are you even trying to fool me?
He just risked coming here for such a flimsy excuse, which irritated Eveline.
“Are you going to answer me?” She let out a frustrated yell at his silence.
Wordlessly, Gabriel kept staring at her until he finally reached her and cupped her face. Only he knew how he managed to get here, only to see the glimpse of her safe and sound.
“I felt like I had lost you.”
“Hn?”
Even though Eveline was unable to understand what he was saying, his continued stare at her revealed his inner turmoil.
Eveline stepped back quickly and cleared her throat.
Ignoring his penetrating stare, Eveline said, “Wait here, I will get something for you to wear,” and she walked past him in the direction of the cupboard.
Eveline did not know what to give him when she suddenly had an epiphany and reached into her closet to grab a t-shirt she had meant to buy for her father.
“Here, take this,” she said, handing him the t-shirt.
“Why would you have men t-shirts inside your cupboard?” Gabriel asked, frowning as he noticed men’s clothing in her closet.
His comment startled Eveline, but she quickly collected herself and shot back, saying, “That is for my dad. Back then, I just so happened to buy it for him. So put it on and quit being envious.” With that, she turned back to face her closet.
“And as for the trousers, how about this?” She showed him her pink pajama with a flower print on it.
“…”
“You want me to wear this?” He asked giving a are you kidding me look.
Eveline gave him a noncommittal look while rolling her eyes. “Yes, because you do not have any choice and I will not let you sleep over my bed with those wet pants,” she said, tossing the pajama in his direction as she moved to the bed.
Although Gabriel knew that driving to Eveline’s without any backup was a risky move, he was forced to accept her warning.
He looked at her one last time, then headed to the bathroom and shut the door.
With her gaze fixed on the door, Eveline waited for him outside.
She continued to ponder the circumstances that led him to lose sleep, but then she recalled her informing her that he had not been getting enough sleep lately.
Her eyes softened at once as she remembered how he had almost begged her, and then all she knew was that the door had clicked.
Eveline’s eyes strayed to the tall man dressed in an odd outfit.
Her oversized t-shirt hung loosely on his frame, giving him the appearance of a scarecrow, and her pajamas reached below his knees.
Pfft.
When Gabriel gave her a menacing glance, Eveline immediately covered her mouth in an attempt to stop laughing.
Gabriel ignored her and moved to sit next to her on the bed.
“Just laugh at me and the next thing you will see yourself beneath me, kissing you endlessly,” he said without hesitation, which instantly made Eveline stop talking.
His gaze was cutting right through her laughter, causing her to swallow his words.
“Ahem-hm, who said I was laughing.” She muttered and quickly turned over to her side to sleep on the bed.
“Come, rest, and make sure you depart before anyone awakens in the morning.”
Gabriel cocked his brow at her demanding words and moved to the other side.
“Who said that I would get up early?” He said, lying on the bed, “I do not intend to once I fall asleep and you know very well that I hate being interrupted in between my sleep.”
Eveline frowned as she watched him impose his habit and waved her away. But who cares?
For heaven’s sake, this is not his house—not even his bedroom or bed.
‘Then who the hell is he to disobey me.’
“Listen, mister, this is not your room nor your bed to feel free to sleep,” Eveline growled at him as she forced herself to sit.
“And I am warning you if you don’t get your ass out early morning, then get back home now,” she stated, pointing towards the exit.
