Rebirth of Billionaire's Wife - Chapter 137
Chapter 137: I can’t lose her Chapter 137: I can’t lose her “So you will be heading to the bar?” She inquired, raising her brow in question.
Stefan scratched the back of his head awkwardly before nodding.
“But I promise not to drink,” he stated as the fact.
In fact, he wasn’t going to let Gabriel drink either because he didn’t want to see his friend wasted out of pity.
“But Gabriel said he wants to drink,” Ella reminded him of his words, rendering him speechless.
“Babe, I swear I will not drink.
I will not even let Gabriel drink.
“I just need to know what’s wrong with him and why he’s suddenly acting strange,” Stefan admitted.
Ella was upset not because he was going to have a drink, but because of where he was going.
Knowing how popular the lad is among women, she didn’t want him to run into any of his flings.
“So…should I go?” Stefan inquired, noting her dazed expression.
“Hmm, but make sure you stay away from girls or you will be forbidden to enter my house,” she threatened, allowing him to depart.
**** Meanwhile, Eveline locked herself.
Despite Jonathan’s persistent plea that they take her to the doctor, she politely declines and instead isolated herself in her room.
The anguish in her brain was caused by thoughts that refused to leave her mind.
Even if she chose to sleep, she might discover that thing within herself.
Click Screech…
“Eve, sweetheart, are you sleeping?” Jonathan said, peeking through her door.
He couldn’t sit still knowing that something was troubling his daughter, so he decided to come.
Jonathan had been cursing himself for not being able to identify the concerns his daughter was having on her own and felt like the worst father who couldn’t even protect her.
He knew something was disturbing her because of the way she shifted from her cheerful personality to one that was reserved and calculative.
He had always seen his daughter smile, but now she rarely did, and not truly.
If he had known about the problem she faced back in college, he could have handled it with Howard on his own.
Eveline smiled and pushed herself up to sit on the bed, watching her father make his way toward her.
He sat next to her and threw his arms around her, bringing her into a protective hug.
“I am sorry, sweetheart.
I failed as a father today,” Jonathan admitted with a broken heart.
The guilt that lingered in his comments conveyed how much he regretted not being there for his daughter.
“No, dad, you have never failed, and you never will.
You are the best father any girl could ask for in her life.

Please do not say that.”Eveline wrapped her arms around her father and buried her face against his chest.
“You are the best dad,” she whispered, sobbing in his arms.
Eveline knew her father misunderstood everything, but she was relieved that he did.
If he ever learned of his daughter’s pain, he would never forgive himself.
Jonathan didn’t say anything and continued rubbing her back till she stopped crying.
“Now tell me why were you crying?” He inquired as they moved away.
Eveline kept her gaze low and mumbled, “Dad, I don’t think I am ready for this arrangement of me and Gabriel marrying each other” Jonathan pulled his lips into a thin line and placed his palm under her chin, causing her to look up.
“And what makes you think that?” He asked.
Eveline bit her lip and glanced away.
She couldn’t bring herself to tell Jonathan the truth, but she couldn’t continue to torment herself emotionally.
“I’m not ready yet,” she said faintly.
“Okay, I understand, but haven’t you ever felt Gabriel’s love for you?” he asked, and she looked back at him in disbelief.
She would never lie about it since every fiber of her being screamed how much he adored her.
Unable to say anything, she simply nodded in agreement.
“Then don’t you think it is unfair to him because you will hurt him?” he questioned, and she sank back into her thoughts.
If only her heart had been ready, she might have done so, but it was still too restrictive.
When Eveline did not respond again, Jonathan sighed and said, “I never asked you to marry tomorrow, but you should at least give that boy a chance because if not him, I don’t know who would be a good match for you.
Remember, Eveline, your happiness is in your hands, and the decision is yours to keep it ” Jonathan had seen how much Gabriel admired Eveline and was willing to go to any length to defend her.
He couldn’t bring himself to watch his heart break.
He understood Eveline’s point of view, but he wanted her to be happy, which they both knew was only possible with Gabriel.
She may have refrained because she was confused or just did not see the future, but she will eventually grasp what she desires and what she wants.
It’s only a matter of time Jonathan didn’t bother saying her any further since he knew Eveline was intelligent enough to make her own decisions, and whatever she decided, he would agree with her.
**** [Bar: VIP room] Stefan peered at the two untouchable scotch glasses and then at Gabriel.
“We were supposed to drink?” He stated this in an attempt to elicit a reaction from the person who had been sitting quietly on the couch.
Gabriel’s mood has been bad since they arrived. He didn’t say anything, nor did he allow him to speak, and he remained silently seated.
He kept staring forward, his mind still swirling around Eveline.
He couldn’t just come to comprehend her.
Just when he thought everything was going well between them, she’d pull the line or say something he couldn’t understand.
He tried to be patient with her and even talk things out, but she would only talk in riddles that made no sense to him.
It was as if she had long given up on him and was only continuing because of their pre-existing alliance.
It was difficult to predict her behavior when she would merely worry for him and then push him away as if he didn’t matter.
But now he was tired and determined to put things right.
He would never let her leave him, no matter how much she pushed him.
Gabriel had come to terms with his emotions, which revolved solely around Eveline, and no matter what happened, he would never leave her or allow her to leave him.
They were meant to be, and he will make it happen for them.
“Stefan,” he said abruptly, jolting the guy out of his stupor and making him gaze at him intently.
“Yes” “How do you win over a girl?” he exclaimed, leaving Stefan stunned.
Gabriel, who had never been interested in his playboy tricks, asked him how he should approach a girl.
Stefan, unable to resist the desire, rose from his chair and touched Gabriel’s forehead.
“Are you sick?
Then why are you saying things that don’t fit your aloof personality?” he inquired, perplexed.
Gabriel cast a look his direction and he swiftly withdrawn his hand.
His eyes scanned his countenance, which stayed fixed, before he returned to his seat and chose to have a man to man conversation.
“So Eveline rejected you,” he continued, causing Gabriel to turn away before letting out a hearty giggle.
“No wonder you decided to seek my assistance,” he said, shaking his head at his friend’s impotence.
“Then I won’t be any help to you because the girl who are trying to win over his Eveline and we all know she doesn’t fall for this flattery remark” he stated. This caused Gabriel to sigh.
He expected Stefan’s assistance, but he couldn’t deny what he said regarding Eveline.
She would not fall for those flirtatious words now that she had completely transformed.
She evolved in a way that still surprises him.
Stefan looked at Gabriel, who appeared to be debating his next step and said, “Why don’t you give her some time.
Don’t compel her to think things through.
Gabriel, we both know how much your behavior has wounded her, so it’s natural that she’s restraining herself from pursuing the same route.” “But I can’t lose her Stefan,” Gabriel yelled, his eyes twitching and his chest heaving up and down from intense breathing.
Stefan was rendered speechless as he continued, “There is this constant fear in my heart that I might lose her forever and that killing me.” Gabriel leaned out and gulped the drink from the glass before slamming it on the table.
He wanted assurance that Eveline would not abandon him no matter what happened.
He was afraid that because of his previous error, she would never come to open her heart to him again, and that was the most agonizing notion that kept him up every night.
Stefan on the other hand had nothing to say because he had never seen Gabriel so powerless, but he could do one thing for him: talk to Eveline and find out what she wanted from this relationship.
