Rebirth of Billionaire's Wife - Chapter 158
Chapter 158: What do you want, Alex Chapter 158: What do you want, Alex Eveline confronts Daniel about her failure to reach Gracey last night, but she asks him to remain silent and wait for her to call the next day.
The entire night passed with him scarcely sleeping, and he kept tossing and turning over in bed, thinking about Gracey.
When he observed the sun had come out, he couldn’t wait a second for her to reach out and immediately changed to depart for her place; but, on his way, he discovered Gabriel standing before him, his face tinged with anxiety, and he divulged.
“Gracey hasn’t been home all night, and her parents have filed a missing complaint.
They need you at the station for an investigation.” The words came at Daniel like a flood, washing away his sensible thinking, and he nodded in agreement before they both left the house together.
As soon as they arrived at the station, they saw Eveline, along with Gracey’s mother Rose, comforting her as her father spoke with the police.
Daniel dashed towards them and kneeled before Rose, who burst into tears upon seeing him.
“Aunty, everything will be okay.
We will find Gracey; please trust the cops,” Daniel promised her, and she nodded in agreement.
Eveline and Gabriel exchanged meaningful glances before she stood up and moved to his side.
“I think it’s time for me to meet him,” she said with determination, and he nodded in agreement.
“Make sure to call me if you find anything suspicious,” he urged, and she nodded in understanding.
Gabriel quickly contacted officer Ethan, the lead officer in charge of Alex’s case, who promptly granted them permission to meet with him.
Eveline was nervous, but more than that, she was eager to acquire something from this meeting.
Eveline stood outside the meeting room for a time, gathering her confidence before entering.
When she reached the partitioned glass, she noticed Alex’s intense gaze following her.
A smile spread across his lips, and his eyes shone with inexplicable feelings.
Eveline was firm, but the way he gazed at her reminded her of something sinister, which bothered her.
Ignoring him, she sat down in the chair and feigned a calm posture.
“Why did you want to meet me, Alex?
I thought you hated me for whatever happened,” she murmured, looking straight through his eyes.
Her fists were tightly fisted in her lap as she watched them flicker.
“How could I not meet you, Eveline?
You want me to pretend as if nothing occurred and accept the punishment immediately.” His remarks were cold and distant, causing Eveline to look away.
“We never meant to cause any harm to you Alex, despite you being the one to start it and now I want to know why…
why would you do that and for what just to have me when you knew I can never love you” inquired Eveline.
Eveline only had Gabriel in her heart before to her rebirth, but her previous experience burned that love for him away, leaving nothing but a void heart that could not dare to love again. However, she unexpectedly meets Alex, who she had no idea harbored obsessive affections for her and had attempted to defame her in order to end her relationship with Gabriel.
“I know you and Tiffany have been plotting together to defame me,” she said, leaving Alex shocked for a moment.
But then he began to chuckle, as if he had suddenly realized something about himself rather than her.
“I should have known.

Eve, you are extremely intelligent.
I was blinded by your lies and attractiveness.” He spoke with a taunting yet complimenting tone.
Eveline understood what he was saying, but he left her with no choice.
He should have known before teaming up with Tiffany and attempting to wreck her life for selfish reasons.
“Then you must also know, Tiffany won’t stop until she gets what she wants” Eveline furrowed her brow, mocking her with a smirk, and sat back in his chair, giving her a difficult look.
“Just like me, she is crazy,” he added, inciting her fury.
“What do you want, Alex?
I know this meeting isn’t for teasing me or glorifying yourself in front of me.” Eveline recognized his deceptive manner, knowing full well that he had something to tell her but was playing with her to observe her reaction.
Yes, she appeared calm on the outside, but his attitude was pushing her wrath to the surface.
Alex’s eyes and face became stern.
His jaw tightened, and he clenched his teeth, adding, “Gracey, wasn’t she the one threatening Tiffany?” Eveline’s eyes sparked in recognition, but she quickly hid it.
“What are you saying?
How would I know what she’s up to?” Eveline feigned to know nothing, but he demonstrated his intellect by putting her in her place.
“I know you both worked on exposing Tiffany,” he quickly declared, perplexing her.
“The notes you gave her were your idea to threaten her into disclosing her crime, am I correct?” he inquired, as Eveline finally broke her haughty demeanor.
Alex chuckled as her countenance became gloomy.
He was impressed by how she remained calm in front of him.
But he knew her mind was already running, trying to make sense of his words.
Eveline had a nasty feeling that Gracey’s absence was somehow related to Tiffany, but before she could conclude, a loud thud jolted her out of her reverie and she looked up to see Alex, who lay unconscious on the ground.
It was surprising and too abrupt for her to understand what had happened, but the next thing she saw was a few staff members running to him.
The meeting room door swung open, and Gabriel dashed to her side, enveloping her in his arms.
Eveline watched them examine Alex before carrying him away.
“What just happened?” she mumbled, staring at the space where Alex had been just seconds before.
But then her thoughts returned to normal, and she gazed at Gabriel in panic.
“Gracey didn’t go missing; she was abducted.” Eveline’s announcement left him bewildered, but soon her words dawned on him like a bolt before they both rushed out from there together.
**** Gracey opened her eyes somewhere inside the dark cellar, only to find herself laying on the dusty floor.
She tried to move, but felt confined because her hands and legs were tied with a rope and wire, and her lips was taped shut, stifling her speech forcibly.
It took her a minute to comprehend everything before a piercing ache shot through her brain and her memories from the night before flooded back in.
Gracey gaped in panic when she realized she had been kidnapped after arriving to deliver an order yesterday night.
But then she received a blow out of nowhere and everything went dark the next second.
‘Where am I now?
And what is this place?
she wondered to herself, feeling alien to the atmosphere that terrified her to the bone.
Gracey had no notion who did this to her, nor did she know where she was kept captive.
However, one thing was certain: the person holding her was the one who lied about the delivery to get here.
Gracey had the impression that someone had deliberately duped her into going to the location of an abandoned house where she imagined no one lived.
But the question was, who would do it?
And why?
While everything was spinning through her mind, she heard footsteps approaching and hurriedly closed her eyes, pretending to be unconscious before the person just entered.
Tiffany walked into the basement and discovered Gracey motionless on the floor.
To ensure she was still alive, she bend a bit and checked her respiration, which confirmed she was both unconscious and alive.
It was unexpected to see her still unconscious, but Tiffany was delighted because it would allow her to kill her without difficulty later on.
Meanwhile, Gracey continued to pretend to sense someone standing next to her, but she couldn’t see her because she was afraid that if the person found out she was awake, he would hurt her or worse, murder her.
But then she remembered that it was dark inside, with scarcely any light coming in.
So she chose to peek through, expecting to catch a glimpse, only to hear someone speak on the phone the next second.
“Eveline, please save me; someone is trying to hurt me.
Please…please…help me!” Gracey remained still, hearing the person replicate her voice with such accuracy that she found it difficult to distinguish, but suddenly the words the person uttered struck her and she opened her eyes.
‘Tiffany,’ she gasped in surprise as she realized the woman standing before her with her back to her was Tiffany.
I didn’t take long to recognize her because she remembered her once telling her that she can mimic voices and that the one she excelled at was hers.
So her uncertainty was confirmed when everything began to make sense to her.
“She’s still unconscious but breathing.
So, wait for my signal before killing her.” she said someone on the call.
Gracey’s eyes sprang out of her socket as she watched her walk away, closing the door, and the short glimpse of light faded back into darkness.
