Chapter 161: Is there any way I can win his heart?
[Flashback] Splash!
A body plunged into the pool, sinking deep under the water and emerging with a gasp.
“Eve!
That’s not fair.
You can’t punish me like that.” Stefan (19) coughed, running his palm over his face, and stared at the naughty girl giggling at him near the poolside.
It was the last day of their summer vacation, and the youngsters had gathered to stay at the Winston Mansion as is customary.
“It’s your turn.” Daniel (17) glanced at Eveline (18) in horror as he stood by the pool wearing boxers.
He had the air tube in his hand in case she pushed him, so he had a backup plan to save himself.
“Eve, please be gentle, okay,” Daniel asked, and she replied with a nod before pushing him down into the water.
Daniel popped out of the water and hastily grabbed the tube, pouring water from his mouth and nodding to her.
Gabriel (19) stood there, studying the two, then turned to face Eveline, who approached him with a smile.
“Um, Gabriel, did you like the punishment?” Eveline asked, stroking the back of her head.
“…” “Even just because you prefer Gabriel to us does not imply that you will punish us on his behalf.
Did you forget I am your brother?
You cannot do this to me.” Stefan whined from the pool.
He couldn’t understand that a simple prank would be perceived as an offense by the person they didn’t play on.
Gabriel sighed as he returned his gaze to Eveline after looking at Stefan.
“It wasn’t needed.
We were simply having fun,” he stated.
However, as always, she saw it as bullying and retaliated on Stefan for being the one who carried it.
“How could you say something like that, Gabriel.
You would have been harmed or drowned,” Eveline hissed, her eyes wild with terror.
“…” “You think I will kill my best friend…
and what about Daniel?
Why did you push him?” Stefan swam to the edge, pushed himself up, and quickly turned to sit on the tile.
His gaze fell on Daniel, who appeared to be enjoying his time floating on the water, causing him to shake his head helplessly.
“He should not have laughed when you did it.
So yes, he deserves the same punishment,” Eveline said casually, leaving Stefan defenseless.

Eveline would not allow any foolishness against Gabriel, who was one of the most important people in her life.
Gabriel walked and sat on the recliner, drying the water from his body before leaning back and closing his eyes to absorb the sunlight.
Eveline followed him like a lost puppy, taking a seat in the other recliner.
Her eyes praised his magnificence, and a smile spread across her face.
There had always been an underlying attraction to him, but no matter how much she showed him, he refused to admit it.
“Gabriel, will you come to pick me up now that I’ve been enlisted in Aspen?” Eveline inquired, hoping for him to glance at her once, but to her disappointment, he only nodded.
Eveline was thrilled with the tiny things he did, and it was enough to keep the flame of love for him alive in her heart.
Eveline had always wanted to be with Gabriel, even as they grew up together.
He was the fairy tale prince charming with whom she wished to spend her life.
He seldom spoke to her, but she felt that with time, she would be able to show him her heart.
Her emotions were like an open book to everyone, but the person she needed to feel acknowledged never gave her a nod.
Gabriel, on the other hand, could feel her eyes on him, which made his heart skip a beat.
He may not be excellent at expressing himself, but this girl’s stares made his heart accelerate.
They were all for him, so pure and lovely that he couldn’t stop himself from being seduced by her.
He had no idea what this feeling was, but it wasn’t helping him.
Unable to bear those loving gazes, he snapped open his eyes and stood up, marching away without looking back.
Eveline pouted as she saw him retreat back, only to be startled out of it by Stefan.
“Ah, this poor little thing, do you want to follow him?” Eveline’s expression hardened, and she cast an angry look at Stefan.
“You look like a puppy abandoned by its owner,” he continued, disregarding her glares, which were not frightening enough to make him cry.
Eveline sighed and leaned back in the recliner, letting the sun hit her skin.
“Is there any way I can win his heart?
He doesn’t even acknowledge my words,” she stated dejectedly.
Stefan smiled at her downcast expression and added, “How do you know he doesn’t acknowledge you?
For the record, he is one of us who knows every detail about you.” Eveline clicked her tongue and shook her head in dismay.
“He might be, but he can’t see that I am interested in him.
Are my methods not convincing enough to be recognized?” she inquired, her head moving to the side to look at him.
Stefan was the only one who knew what was going on between the two of them; yet, things were not as simple as they appeared.
“You should be patient with him, Eveline.
Gabriel isn’t someone who opens up easily, and we all know he’s reserved even with those he knows,” Stefan added, leaving Eveline to ponder his comments.
Yes, Gabriel was an intense introvert, but that wasn’t always the case.
Then what caused him to withdraw completely, even from his family?
“No, don’t be upset, and cheer up.
I know you can do it,” Stefan murmured, taking her from her thoughts, and she smiled back.
Eveline had always appreciated Stefan’s willingness to listen.
He was like a big brother to her, assisting her through whatever obstacle she had.
Stefan was aware of Eveline’s strong feelings for Gabriel and how she went to great lengths to express them to him.
Stefan didn’t oppose any of these, but he always advised her to take things slowly and allow them to develop naturally.
But Eveline, being impatient, did everything she could to make things unpleasant between her and Gabriel in the hopes that he would eventually accept her.
He then got up, grabbing her attention, and asked, “Are you interested in learning a new hacking technique?” Eveline’s eyes shone with excitement, and she nodded like a happy child, quickly following him into the house.
