Rebirth of Billionaire's Wife - Chapter 171
Chapter 171: I followed you Chapter 171: I followed you [Present] As Gabriel’s eyes sprung open, only for him hear a voice coming from the side.
“Richard, please call the doctor.
He is awake,” Belle remarked, reaching out to caress Gabriel’s hair as he struggled to register his thoughts about his surroundings.
As he gradually regained consciousness, his mind began to whirl with recollections of the terrace incident from where he witnessed Eveline fall.
“Eve!” His mind flashed like lightning, and he jolted up to sit.
Gabriel stood up from the bed, ignoring the people around him, and stumbled on the floor.
Richard tried to stop him and calm him down, but the fear in his eyes made his stomach churn strangely.
“Dad, where’s Eve?
Please take me to her.
Tell me she’s fine?
Please, Dad, take me to her.” Gabriel didn’t realize he’d been crying, but he was determined to find Eve and ensure her safety.
Richard instantly recovered from his trance and nodded in agreement.
Belle, too, observed her son’s distressed emotions and directed Richard to accompany Gabriel to Eveline’s ward.
She assisted her son, and he was quickly taken to the room where Eveline was treated.
As soon as Gabriel saw her, his heart started racing.
He carefully walked up to her side, letting go of his parents’ hands.
Jonathan, astonished by the scene, stared at Richard and Belle in confusion, but soon his eyes noticed Gabriel’s tear filled face.
“She’s fine,” he said without hesitation as he watched him stop by her side.
Something in Gabriel’s looks made him want to reassure the man, who appeared to be more than broken by this time.
It was his words that got Gabriel let go of his strength and he dropped to his knees, kissing her cheeks cautiously.
The scene was absolutely surprising, leaving everyone shocked by Gabriel’s concern for Eveline.
No one knows what he was going through at the time, but his vulnerable countenance was enough to reveal the depth of his love for her.
“Mr, Winston, you shouldn’t-” Richard’s look interrupted the doctor’s comments, and he dismissed himself.
“Let’s go,” he said to Belle and Jonathan, and they went out, giving the couple some space.
**** Tiffany returned home after fleeing like a coward, lashing out at someone for being as useless as usual.
“I told you to keep your eyes off the girl, you useless man.
How can you be so careless!
How could you fail to complete even one job?” Tiffany scolded her father for failing to complete one of the tasks assigned to him.
Jacob was the one who assisted Tiffany in keeping track of the issue with Gracey.
He had been monitoring the area but sneaked out for a bit, only to see cops investigating outside the house.

He fled because he was afraid of getting caught, but he made sure to keep her up to date on the situation. However, he had no idea the girl she was dealing with was two steps ahead of her.
“Why blame me when you are the one who didn’t kill that girl?
Your pea-sized brain couldn’t match her intelligence, and now you’re releasing it on me.
You failed.
I merely helped you out since you asked me to.” Tiffany was furious after hearing Jacob’s statements.
She knew it was her fault for underestimating Eveline and, worse, for believing her so-called father could help her.
She couldn’t believe Eveline duped her into playing her own game, but now the tables had turned against her, she was afraid Gabriel had seen her.
She may continue to claim that he did not, but only a fool would maintain their illusion while disregarding the warning indications of impending danger if they were to survive.
Tiffany fumed, shooting daggers at Jacob, and dashed to her room to get her belongings before fleeing.
She couldn’t think of anything right now, and staying inside her house would be a major hassle.
“What are you doing?” Jacob inquired as she gathered some of her things and took money from her mother’s handbag.
“I need to hide before the cops come looking for me,” Tiffany said as she went by him, preparing to leave the house, only to discover her mother standing in front of her.
“Not now, Tiffany,” she said before looking over her shoulder and seeing a police officer stroll past her with a cuff on his hand.
“You are under arrest, Miss Tiffany.” **** Eveline gradually regained consciousness inside the gloomy hospital room, illuminated only by a small table lamp light.
Her eyes slowly adjusted to her surroundings, squinting slightly at the sight of the light that had clumsily entered her view.
She felt her body ache and her head throb as she struggled to recall the incident that had occurred back then.
‘Am I alive?’ her subconscious asked, and her eyes gradually widened as the reality dawned.
She remembered Gabriel losing consciousness and sliding off the terrace.
She jumped for him in an attempt to hold him, but she failed due to the call, which dragged her down with him, only for them to be separated by the pool water.
Yes, they did fall, but it was inside the pool.
Eveline feared her life had been cut short after drinking a lot of water that suffocated her at one point, but her gaze remained fixed on the boy drowning unintentionally into the depths of the pool with no trace of resistance.
She knew they were going to die at this rate, but now when she looked around, she saw they were still alive and being treated.
However, a notion struck her and she gasped in panic, wondering if she was still alive then where Gabriel was.
Her body twitched with the prospect of his survival, only to be restrained by an overwhelming pull that prevented her from moving.
“What the hell, why can’t I move?
Have I lost the ability to reflex?” She pondered, her breathing ragged and her face pale from dread.
Eveline assumed that the shock of falling from heights to the water would render her disabled, but a low breathing sound drew her attention and she quickly turned to gaze to her side.
Her body stilled as a stunning face grabbed her attention, and a sigh escaped her lips.
A sense of relief washed over her face, and she refused to look away.
‘He’s OK,’ she thought, keeping her words from leaving her mouth, but the next thing she did was extend her hand to trace his face.
Eveline wasn’t sure if she was hallucinating, but the second her fingers brushed over his contour, his lashes fluttered and gently opened, revealing his deep gray eyes that met her blue iris.
Silence descended between the two, and they only spoke through their eyes.
They both felt so secure in each other’s eyes that they wouldn’t dare to look away.
Eveline was relieved he did not die, and he was relieved his life had returned, giving a boost to his dying heart.
“You are awake?” He left her soothed by his velvety speech, prompting her to tremble beneath his penetrating gaze that observed her in awe.
They were making her feel so excited that her heartbeat increased by double its normal rate.
“Why aren’t your sleeping in your bed?” Eveline inquired as she observed his medical clothing and changed the topic.
It was evident that he had left his room and come to sleep with her.
But did he forget it was her room anymore?
He jumped up the window and slipped into her bed.
Eveline was relieved he did not die, and he was relieved his life had returned, giving a boost to his dying heart.
“Do not push me.
I’d like to sleep in your arms.
Just hold me firmly, Eve.
Let me hold onto the thought that you are safe and secure in my arms.Allow me to feel alive and breathe freely, since you have no idea how many times I died at the fear of losing you.” Eveline’s heart skipped a beat, and her hand on his face remained immobile.
“Why would you do that, Eve?Don’t you trust me that you decided to face Tiffany alone?” he questioned, his voice as cutting as a scalpel slicing right through her daze.
Eveline frowned in concern as she remembered something.
“How did you get there?
And what about Tiffany?” He drew her closer before she could push him away, never leaving her side.
Gabriel’s eyes were as serene as the water, but they frightened her with the impending storm, making her gulp.
“I followed you after I learned you left lying to us and as far as Tiffany, she is taken by the cops.” Eveline became silent as her thoughts raced through the options.
“You do work a step ahead, don’t you?” Gabriel questioned, interrupting her stream of thinking, and she gave him an innocent expression.
“W-what did I do this time?” she inquired, a little pout appearing on her lips.
Gabriel couldn’t help but appreciate her, pecking her cheeks affectionately.
