Rebirth of Billionaire's Wife - Chapter 173
Chapter 173: I hope you are not blaming her Chapter 173: I hope you are not blaming her “You kids really scared us.
How can you put your lives at risk in that way?
What would have happened to us if something had gone wrong?” Belle glared at the two who acquiesced to her scolding.
No matter how hard they tried to justify themselves, they could not ignore the fear they had instilled in their parents.
“And Eveline Miller, how could you be so reckless?
Do you no longer love your father that much to put your life in danger?” Jonathan expressed his dissatisfaction, hoping that she would recognize her error and take his words seriously.
Eveline had never seen her father so upset, but when he addressed her by her full name, she realized her mistake and accepted his words without explanation.
“Relax, you two; how long are you going to scold them?
I am sure they preached to themselves not to make the same mistake again.
So let us end here.” Though Richard was equally upset, he did not want to prolong their displeasure after witnessing how obediently they had taken their words without saying anything in defense.
Daniel informed them of the entire conspiracy that took place on the terrace.
Yes, they were upset, but they were more concerned about their children’s safety, who would have died if help had not arrived on time.
“And how long do you want to sit there?
Just go back to your room already.
The doctors are trying to examine you, but you are glued to her like chewing gum,” Richard said, and Gabriel quickly got out of the bed he had been sharing with Eveline since the previous night.
Eveline could not help but smile as she watched Gabriel obey Richard’s commands, but then her gaze shifted to her father, who appeared exhausted.
Eveline never wanted to scare him, and she felt sorry for how worried he must have been while she was unconscious.
“Dad, I am sorry,” Eveline said, capturing Jonathan’s attention, who simply glanced at her without saying anything.
Belle observed their thoughtful exchange and they excused themselves, stating they needed to discuss the discharge with the doctors.
Gabriel hesitated, but she dragged him out of the room to give the father and daughter some space.
The room fell silent as the door to her room closed, and she turned to face Jonathan, who had still not spared her a glance.
“How long have you been dealing with this, and why did not you tell me that your life was under constant threat?” After Alex was arrested, Tiffany, Susan’s daughter, came to light for endangering Eveline’s life. Jonathan had been giving her space by not interfering with her life because he wanted Eveline to have her independence.
But if this freedom endangered her life, he did not think he would let her leave the house without any guards.
Eveline bit her lower lips in response to his scrutinizing gaze: “A while.” she said.
“And you do not bother to inform your father about it.
Do you think so little of me that you keep things from me, Eveline?” Jonathan had never yelled at her before, but knowing how she might have died, he could not hold back.
Since Gabriel insisted that he had everything under control, he had been keeping his mouth shut when he found out about Alex’s obsession.
But Tiffany’s behavior was unexpected, and after learning she was Susan’s daughter, he wondered how she came to harbor such animosity toward Eveline that she decided to kill her.
Eveline’s eyes welled up with tears when she saw how hurt Jonathan looked as he spoke those words.
She apologized, but she knew there was no excuse for her actions.

Eveline was still processing Gabriel’s revelation from the night before, wondering how he saw his past life until it suddenly dawned on her.
‘Did he die too?’Â Jonathan took note of her silence and walked to her bed.
He knew he was being harsh, but what was he supposed to do when he saw his daughter in that condition?
He believed that, like his wife, he had also lost her. The thought of being alone in this world without them was eating him up from the inside, and when he saw Eveline in her lifeless state, his fears came to life.
Wrapping his arms around her, he pulled her in for a hug.
“I thought I would lost you.” Jonathan’s voice trembled as tears fell from his eyes.
“I thought I was left alone in this world.” Eveline broke out of her trance and hugged him back.
The thought lingered in the back of her mind, but she decided to keep it to herself for now and console her father.
“I am not going to leave you, Dad.
Not now or ever,” she reassured him, but only Jonathan understood the gravity of the situation surrounding her life.
He was afraid that everything would change in an instant and he would lose his daughter to his enemy.
“Dad, I want to meet Aunt Susan,” she said, breaking his train of thought, and he slowly pulled back.
“I do not believe it is possible.
Susan has decided to resign,” he announced, shocking Eveline.
“Resign?” she muttered in shock.
“Yes, she called me the other day after witnessing your condition and decided to leave because she could not face us anymore.” Eveline frowned as he spoke.
“And you consented?” Eveline inquired, casting him a skeptical look.
Jonathan hesitated, causing Eveline to withdraw from the hug completely.
“I hope you are not blaming her for what her daughter did to me, because I was the one who stopped her from saying anything to anyone,” Eveline exclaimed, leaving Jonathan stunned.
“You asked her?
Why?” He snapped, letting his anger flow through him once more.
“Because I know she was not at fault.
She was innocent throughout.” Eveline could not believe her father would question Susan’s intentions despite knowing she would not conceal anything like that, but no matter what Jonathan thought, she would not let her go.
Jonathan, on the other hand, was contemplating, torn between his mind and heart.
He did not completely blame Susan, but knowing her daughter was after Eveline’s life made him dislike her a little.
She knew Eveline was his precious daughter, and he would not tolerate anyone harbouring any negative feelings toward her.
“I thought you knew her better, Dad.
I could not believe you would even doubt her,” Eveline expressed.
Jonathan instantly regretted even thinking about it.
But now he agreed with Eveline and was ready to fix his mistake.
“I will give her a call,” he said, his expression regretful.
While Eveline and Jonathan were alone, three rooms away, Gabriel cast doubt on his father.
“So he will be transferred to a rehabilitation facility for treatment?” He asked in reference to the entire Alex situation.
Alex was taken to the hospital after passing out, and his condition was diagnosed as a traumatic incident that caused his brain to stop functioning for a period of time.
According to the report, he had a panic attack that nearly killed him and could prove fatal if not treated.
“What if he is pretending to flee the cell?” Gabriel questioned.
“I do not think he will do that after a thorough examination, and his family is unlikely to interfere in legal proceedings,” Richard stated.
The Howards were only pulling up because they had Jenny’s family’s support, but now that they know about his affairs, they have abandoned them with nothing to live on.
Gabriel was still skeptical, but he trusted his father and hoped that whatever he was thinking was simply his own doubt.
“Anyways, what about the girl?
How come I never knew she was related to Susan?” Belle asked, switching the subject from Alex to Tiffany.
“Why would she try to kill Eveline and for what reason, when her family is provided for by her father’s grace?” she continued.
Richard and Belle were both perplexed by the situation, which they agreed on, and equally surprised to learn that the girl belonged to Susan.
However, the reason for her animosity toward Eveline to the point of attempting to murder her remained unknown.
“It is because of me.
I am the reason she was after Eveline.” Gabriel’s voice echoed throughout the room, shocking both of his parents.
“You?” Belle asked.
“Yes, she likes me, or should I say was obsessed with me, and knowing Eveline was her stumbling block because I love her; she schemed against her.” Richard could not help but scoff incredulously.
“You undoubtedly inherited my looks.
Did you see, darling?
Girls are becoming obsessed with him.
Do you recall the same incident happening with me back when we were in college?” Gabriel gave his father an unbelievable look, while Belle glared at him.
“What?
I was simply remembering our old days,” he shrugged and turned to face Gabriel.
“And how about you?
Did you not see this coming?
He grimaced as he questioned his son.
Richard may have joked to lighten his mood because he did not want to tense the atmosphere inside, but seeing his son casually discuss it made him realize he was not aware of it.
