Chapter 197: Someone tried to kill him Chapter 197: Someone tried to kill him “Aunt Susan!” Eveline’s voice pulled her out of her thoughts, and she saw her move closer to her.

“I believe you should take leave.

I’ll be staying with dad, and Gabriel is also here.” Susan looked at her thoughtfully before nodding.

She knew Eveline was safe with Gabriel, so she didn’t have to worry.

“Okay, but I’ll be here tomorrow morning with breakfast.

“Master will not like the taste of bland hospital food,” she murmured, and Eveline smiled at her concern before seeing her go.

By the time Susan left, Gabriel had returned answering a phone call.

“What happened?” Eveline inquired, noting the anxious expression on his face.

“It was a fatal accident.

We’re lucky that nothing happened to Uncle or the driver.” Gabriel had already requested that the police investigate the accident when Eveline notified him about it.

“Look how badly the car is crushed,” he remarked, showing her a picture sent by the police department who were working on the case.

Eveline gaped at the horrible image and looked at Gabriel with alarm.

“How can this happen?

I mean, the driver couldn’t be this careless,” she asked.

“I know, that’s why we need to wait for both of them to regain consciousness so they can give the cops some insight of the accident.” He said.

Eveline nodded in agreement, despite her thoughts lingering on the picture she had just seen.

After some time, she strolled into her father’s room and found him sound asleep.

She was relieved that nothing horrible had happened and that he had only a fracture and some minor injuries.

Because the sight of his car being badly crashed made her stomach turn.

Eveline walked silently over to his bed, took a seat in the chair, and kept watching Jonathan.

She had no idea when sleep had taken over her, but a slight tuck roused her from her slumber, only to find Gabriel looking at her.

“Eat something first.” He replied, and Eveline carefully dragged herself up.

“I am not hungry, Gabriel,” she replied, not wanting to eat anything.

“I know you didn’t eat dinner,” he added, strolling to the sofa area and placing the food on the table.

“So I won’t take no for an answer,” he added.

Eveline realized Susan must have informed him about it, so she groaned and got up, heading to where he was and sitting alongside him.

Gabriel made sure Eveline ate well during their supper.

He kept putting food to her plate, suggesting she eat more.

“That’s it, I can’t eat anymore,” she protested, and he relented before cleaning the table and returning to the couch.

“You sleep here, and I’ll continue to sit by Dad’s bed,” she replied, about to stand up, but Gabriel stopped her by holding her wrist.

“We have enough space for two to sleep on the couch,” he said, and she gave him an astonishing look.

Gabriel didn’t wait for her reaction before pulling her into his arms and reclining comfortably on the couch.

Gabriel, this is not a good idea.

What if dad wakes up and finds us together like this?” she whispered, her voice low.

“He will not, and even if he did, there is nothing wrong with that.

We are a couple, and he knows couples sleep together,” he replied casually, forcing Eveline to jerk him.

“Don’t you dare try to get up or else I will pin you on the couch and kiss you in front of your dad.” “….” Gabriel smirked at her dumbfounded expression and threw his arms around her, bringing her head close to his chest.

“Sleep,” he whispered, and began massaging her head.

Eveline couldn’t help but feel her body relax under his touch, and she quickly fell asleep.

Gabriel woke up when the sunshine invaded their close eyes, yet Eveline remained asleep after shifting slightly and nuzzling against his chest.

Gabriel couldn’t help but smile as she slept and hugged him.

His gaze remained fixed on her stunning face until a phone call disturbed his peaceful moment, and he hastily reached out to answer it.

However, no matter how swift his reflex was, it resulted in Eveline waking up.

“What time is it?” She inquired in a drowsy voice before forcing herself out of Gabriel’s grasp and turning to face her father, who was still deep sleeping.

Eveline frowned as she noticed Gabriel speaking with someone on the phone.

“Okay, I will inform once he is awake.” Saying that, he disconnected the phone and turned to face Eveline, who was already staring at him.

“Was the call from the police station?” He agreed with her question.

“How long will it take for Dad to wake up?” she inquired, concerned.

So much time had passed, yet Jonathan had yet to awaken.

His unconsciousness was causing her concern.

“Don’t worry, the doctor said it would take some time for him to fully regain consciousness,” he said, and then a tap on the door shocked them out.

Eveline instantly sat down on the couch and watched Susan walk in with a tiffin bag in hand.

“Good morning, Master Gabriel, and young Miss,” she greeted the two.

“I brought breakfast,” she explained, and Eveline nodded.

“Dad hasn’t woken Aunt Susan yet,” Eveline said as she stood up and approached her.

Taking the bag from her hand, she set it on the side table.

“Then I guess you should go get fresh.

It’s been a long time since you were both here.

I will let you know as soon as Master wakes up.” “She is correct.

I guess we should go home and freshen up.” Gabriel agreed with Susan, giving Eveline little choice to resist.

They agreed and shortly left the ward for the parking lot.

“What happened?”Gabriel inquired, observing Eveline’s stillness as they entered the car and nestled into their respective seats.

“I’m not sure, but I can’t stop thinking about Dad getting into an accident, especially one that was almost fatal.” Eveline turned to face Gabriel, who pursed his lips.

“What is it?” His face made her suspicious, as if he knew something and had yet to reveal it to her.

Gabriel wanted Jonathan to be the one to reveal details about his accident, but now that Eveline had caught him red handed, he couldn’t hide it from her.

“The call I got from the police station wasn’t to confirm Uncle’s Jonathan’s update, but to inform that someone actually tried to kill him” Eveline’s world came to a halt the moment he whispered those words, and her jaw clenched in anticipation.
