Rebirth of Billionaire's Wife - Chapter 209
Chapter 209: You aren’t a rebound Chapter 209: You aren’t a rebound The night was long, and Ella couldn’t sleep.
The voice and those words echoed in her thoughts like a broken record.
Why, after all these years, does she hear his voice again.
What does he want from her now?
As she continued to contemplate, she became aware that her anxiousness was gradually increasing.
It wasn’t good, so she got up and hurriedly climbed down the bed.
Ella wanted fresh air, and her balcony was the only location where she could clear her mind.
Nobody knew what happened to her, not Max or her mother.
Stefan wasn’t even on the list yet.
She hoped that after all these years, she would finally be free of the invisible chain that had been holding her.
But she was mistaken.
After all, terrible memories are not readily erased.
You can move on, yet they remain with you.
The restlessness continued for a few minutes.
Ella believed that with time, she would recover, but she never did.
She carried it in her heart till today, and when she finally found happiness, her past came back to haunt her.
“Ah!” She cursed inwardly, stormed into her room, grabbed her phone, and promptly contacted Stefan.
He was the only one who could make her feel better, but then a realization hit her, and she abruptly ended the call.
“What’s wrong with you, Ella?
He must be asleep,” she admonished herself, ready to put the phone back on the table when he called.
Ella closed her eyes as Stefan’s name flashed across the screen, cursing mentally before answering.
“Why are you still awake?” Stefan inquired.
The unexpected call from her late at night puzzled him, and he hurriedly called her back, assuming it was an emergency.
Stefan had never paid attention in any of his lessons, but Ella was like a subject that he wanted to study thoroughly.
Ella chewed her bottom lip, contemplating.
She didn’t mean to bother him, but during her emotional crisis, he was the only person she could recall.
“I couldn’t sleep,” she said softly.
Silence followed, then she asked, “Why are you still awake?” Stefan was a light sleeper, so when his phone rang, he awoke as if he hadn’t slept.
“I was, but your call woke me up, and now I’m fully awake to hear you out.
So, tell me, why are you not sleeping?

Do you miss me?” He inquired with a joking tone in his voice.
Stefan attempted to lighten the situation, knowing Ella must be rolling her eyes at him.
However, the next sound he heard paused him.
“Hmm” The mere hum of her voice was enough to melt him like wax.
Ella’s expressiveness was so impressive that he didn’t think it was worth winning his basketball trophy.
She was his life trophy, something he intended to keep throughout his life.
And now, when his existence was making him lose his wits, he couldn’t help but wonder, “Do you want me to come over?” Ella nibbled her lips and hummed once more.
The line went dead the next second, leaving Ella unsure whether he had heard her or not, but her heart continued to race as she anticipated his visit to her house at this hour.
She took several deep breaths while holding her phone close to her heart.
When that didn’t work, she began pacing back and forth, and shortly after, the doorbell rang, jolting her awake.
Ella took a moment to compose herself before opening the door.
Stefan stood at her door, his gaze firmly focused on her.
He had these sweat buds on his forehead, indicating that he nearly dashed to her house as soon as she confirmed it.
Ella’s heart was stirred by his gesture, and she couldn’t stop feeling shy.
“Come in,” she replied, making space for him to enter the house.
When Stefan entered, she closed the door and turned to face him, when his hand snaked around her waist and drew her closer.
Ella couldn’t take her gaze away from his intensely shining eyes.
Ella felt compelled to kiss Stephan, shifting her gaze from his eyes to his lips as their body temperature gradually increased.
They were her shelter, a kiss that made her forget about everything.
Without thinking, she leaned forward and kissed him.
Ella expected Stefan to reciprocate, but when he didn’t, she groaned in irritation and backed away.
“Why aren’t you kissing me?” she replied, frustrated.
Stefan remained calm as he noticed her outraged face and stated, “This is not what I am here for.” Ella was taken aback by his words, and she quickly lowered her gaze.
“I’m sorry,” she muttered.
He asked, “For what?” She closed her eyes.
Ella swiftly clutched him, burying her face in his chest.
“I don’t know,” she whispered, and his lips twisted into a contented smile.
Stefan took a long breath and hoisted her up.
Ella swiftly wrapped her legs around his waist and watched him carry her to the bedroom.
Ella was too timid to look up, but when she felt her buttocks make contact with the silky bed sheet, she let go of him.
Stefan assisted her in sitting on the bed, and she scooted comfortably back, her leg extended long down the smooth mattress.
He then proceeded to the opposite side and took off his shoes before climbing the bed to join her.
Ella swiftly moved to hug him, placing her head on his chest, and he gently wrapped his arm around her, securing her in his grip.
No one said anything, but their warmth soothed their pounding nerves.
Stefan didn’t say anything and just hugged her, but the silence was broken when Ella spoke.
“You are not a rebound for my insecurities, Stefan, and I apologize if I made you feel that way.” Ella honestly apologized when she realized she was using making out with Stefan to avoid her insecurities.
To be more specific, she never escaped, but rather felt so attached to him that his presence heightened a need she was unaware she possessed.
An incident from the past prevented her from initiating any physical contact with Max.
Even kissing him made her feel repulsed.
But for Stefan, it came naturally.
She has no idea why that is.
But one thing was certain: she was not escaping, but rather discovering her true self alongside him.
“I was not upset.
Indeed, your audacious instinct has always thrilled me.
So never apologize since we both desired the same thing,” Stefan replied, tightening her grip around him.
“So?” he inquired.
“So?” she repeated.
“Is this the only reason why you wanted me here?” Ella looked up and noticed him smiling at her.
She couldn’t believe he had the audacity to be shameless with her after hearing her lengthy apology speech.
She slapped him on the chest and muttered, “Shameless.” “Only for you, babe,” he whispered, and she closed her eyes, feeling things return to normal.
