Rebirth of Billionaire's Wife - Chapter 244
Chapter 244: A Letter Chapter 244: A Letter Eveline kept talking until she ran out of words, leaving only a wordless communication that kept her seated there, never letting go.
The timer out of her thoughts.
“Are you Miss Eveline?” Eveline directed her gaze towards an elderly man.
He appeared to be a sweeper, cleaning the area surrounding the graveyard.
“Yes, but how do you know my name?” She inquired.
The elderly man laughed, as if he had finally gotten hold of her.
His eyes were filled with happiness.
“Your mother told me,” he replied, his voice raspy and exhausted due to the old age.
“My mother?” “Yes, your mother.” “She asked me to give you something,” he remarked, leaving Eveline interested by his remarks.
Eveline tried to recall if she had ever seen this man before, but she couldn’t because she rarely came here and spent most of her time with her father on her death anniversary.
“Please follow me,” he murmured, as Eveline stood up and followed him into a little cottage-style room.
Maybe it was his office, or something.
The old guy set aside his broom and headed to a little cupboard, where he drew out an envelope.
“I’m finally able to give it to its rightful owner,” the man said, smiling.
“How do you know my mother?
She passed away years ago.” Eveline was hesitant, but she accepted the package from him and continued to probe.
“I understand.
I’ve been washing her tombstone for years.
But these letters were given to her before she died,” he explained, as she furrowed her brow.
“She knew she was going to die?” the question came to her mind.
“You can sit here and read those letters if you want,” he added, but she quickly refused.
“That is fine, sir.
I’ll read them at home.
Thank you for giving them to me,” she said.
The man nodded.
Eveline had no idea what her mother was thinking when she penned these letters, but the fact that she was preparing for her death twisted her stomach in the worst manner.
She smiled one final time and walked away.
Eveline hails a cab and arrives at the house quickly, racing to her room and locks it from the inside.
Her heart was racing as she walked towards the study table and pulled up a chair to settle in.
Eveline remained staring at the envelope in front of her, debating whether to open it or not.

But she chose the first option and went to check it, and there was a letter, just as the old guy had described.
Dear Eveline, My lovely daughter.
I’m sure you’re wondering why I wrote this letter and why you received it after I passed away.
But I wanted to because I know you’ll understand why things turned out the way they did.
But please do not resent your mother or father, because he did what he did for me.
We only wanted to protect you.
There are some aspects of our lives that we do not want you to know, but if you come across them in the future, please make the appropriate decision.
People may try to manipulate or distort a few things, but keep your focus and trust everything that is shown to you.
I know I should have told you everything as you grew up, but I couldn’t guarantee how long I’d live.
This persistent threat kept me on watch throughout the day, and I’m no longer afraid.
I made a decision, but don’t allow your concerns hold you back.
I believe you will not be deterred, and you will ultimately choose what is best for you.
Eveline was completely speechless as she read the letter again and over.
Tears threatened to fall from her eyes, but she refrained from crying.
The words her mother penned caused her heart clench, but as she began to think about them, she realized her mother had already foretold her death.
She knew she was about to die, and her life was in danger.
But why would she continually warning her to make the correct decision?
Was everything around her a lie, or was she telling her to properly investigate what she would learn in her search for the truth?
“Ah!” Eveline shouted helplessly, dragging her hand through her hair and slamming her hand against either side of the open letter.
“Whoever did this, Mom, he will pay.
I refuse to let anything happen to us.
I promise,” Eveline said, staring at the letter with conviction.
Picking it up, she was going to fold it when something caught her eye, so she opened the letter back and turned to read the other side.
“What is this?” She grumbled, not knowing what was written within; yet, if her mother had stated anything, it must be something useful.
Eveline took a mental note and folded the letter, storing it safely in the drawer.
She then exited her room and decided to check on her father.
Standing outside the room, she knocked, but there was no response.
Eveline furrowed her brow and opened the door, only to discover the room was empty.
“Un, where did dad go?” She grumbled and hurriedly retreated.
Eveline walked along the hallway, only to find Susan approaching her.
“You miss, when did you come?” Susan asked, surprised to see Eveline in the house.
“Just a time ago.
Aunt Susan, where’s Dad?
Eveline enquired about her father’s location.
“Oh, that is what I was here to tell you.
Master had an emergency in the company and had to leave to handle it.
He said don’t worry, he’d be back soon once things were sorted.
Eveline took a big breath.
She did not anticipate her father leaving the house with a plaster on his leg.
But if he needed to depart, perhaps his presence was required there.
“Okay,” she replied.
Susan observed the tense look on Eveline’s face and inquired.
“Is there any problem, young Miss?” Eveline looked at Susan doubtful but then she skipped her contemplation and inquired.
“Aunt Susan, I met mom’s brother” she disclosed leaving Susan speechless.
“Y-You what!?” Eveline looked around and grabbed her hand hastily dragging her in her room.
“Young miss, how did you” Susan was still processing wondering how come Eveline was able to find that man when Erna not even mentioned his name to her or anyone else.
Eveline turned and walked towards Susan.
“I met him in Bali.
He approached me” she said confusing Susan even more.
Eveline could tell she was perplexed so she decided to tell her everything.
….
“But young Miss how can you be so confident about him” Susan asked still not entirely trusting the man who never once came looking for his sister, not even when she died.
Then how come he shows up out of the blue and blames Jonathan for stopping them.
“Because they were forced to cut ties with us, with Mom” she said.
“But still young Miss this is dangerous ” she said kut of concern.
“No aunt Susan, uncle Kaden means no harm.
He was just making sure no one found that we met.
He was being careful” Susan sighed despite the lingering feeling of concern.
“If you say so then let’s say he isn’t a threat, but do you believe his words.
You believe you father stopped them from your mother, from you?” She asked.
“I do believe but I also know dad has his reasons” Eveline stated.
“Glad that you believe your father more than an outsider.
You father has been nothing but a nice man who did everything to protect his family.
It was a shame that he lost your mother due to some disease ” Susan said unaware if the truth.
Eveline looked at Susan pitifully grabbing her attention.
“My mom, she was killed” Susan eyes widen in shock the moment those words left Eveline’s mouth.
“H-How can you-” “I confirmed it Aunt Susan” Susan was taken aback with every revelation made by Eveline.
Her mind going in spiral as she failed to think anything.
Covering her mouth she tried to process.
Her eyes glisten with tears and she suddenly inquired.
“And who did it?
And why would your father lie to the entire world?” She asked.
Back then Jonathan and Jacob weren’t in good terms and even she was forbidden to meet Erna.
But when she found that Erna had died she begged Jacob to let her see off for the last time, but he didn’t permitted.
All this time she thought Erna died due to some illness that was slowly eating her, but it turned out to be fabricated lie.
“I don’t know but Dad does and he won’t let me know of it anytime soon.” She said clenching her jaw.
She was helpless that her father didn’t trust her enough with the truth but she won’t beg him.
She will find her way to everything that’s been kept from her.
Susan gape and shook her head.
“You cannot rish your life Young Miss.
I promise your mother to look after you and never let any harm reach your way” Susan recalled her moment with Erna where she said her to protect her daughter.
Erna had made her promise her but that time she thought it was just a conversation.
However now that the truth of Erna’s death was out she feared something might happen to Eveline in her search for answers.
