Rebirth of Billionaire's Wife - Chapter 252
Chapter 252: How long you’ve been pretending Chapter 252: How long you’ve been pretending Ella didn’t have time to converse with Stefan last night after dinner because Michelle’s surprise phone call interrupted their conversation.
Not that she minded, but they were in the middle of talking when her mother chose to interrupt, forcing her to reschedule their conversation.
Ella was pleased to learn that her mother would be visiting them soon, and she was also looking forward to seeing Stefan and spending time with him.
Now that Michelle was coming to her house, she decided to pause their talk and resume it once her mother left.
Ella was still writing down the items she needed to buy to stock her fridge when she received a text from Stefan stating, “Good morning.” Ella rolled her eyes and replied back to his text: “Its already nine in the morning and you are still sleeping in your bed texting me good morning.~eyes roll emoji.” She hit the sent symbol and rested her phone on the kitchen counter.
Ella waited for a response, but when it didn’t come, she hurriedly jotted down the names of the items she wanted to buy before changing into a casual tee and jeans and leaving her house.
She quickly arrived at the grocery store and went inside.
Ella had become accustomed to Stefan for quite some time and was now desperately missing him.
Just as she was going to call him, his name appeared on her phone’s screen, and a smile spread across her face.
“You knew I was going to call you,” she said, answering the phone.
“Where are you?
I am at your doorstep,” he said, worried, after discovering her house was locked.
Ella did not tell him about her trip to the grocery store because they stopped messaging following his good morning text.
But, now that Stefan was outside her house, she notified him of her whereabouts.
“I’m at the grocery store,” she said.
Stefan ended the call with “Okay, I’ll be there,” while Ella continued to load her cart with the stated item.
Just as she was about to approach the noodles counter, a hand grabbed her wrist, drawing her away from the bustle and leading her to a secluded spot.
Ella’s eyes widened when she spotted the person in front of her, and her cheeks paled at his arrogant smirk.
“Found you,” his fun yet haunting voice shivered Ella, and she tried to wiggle her hand free of his grip, but he continued to smile at her, relishing her horrible face.
“You thought blocking me would prevent me from coming for you,?
huh?” His face moved quite close to her, and she glanced away even when his nose touched her flesh.
“I have been away for a while, and you have already found someone new.
That is not fair.
Just because I spared your connection with Max does not imply that I will allow you to have another productive relationship with your new partner.
What’s his name, hm…let me guess Stefan Hayes,” he continued, his attitude shifting from playful to dark, the smile on his face freezing to minus degrees.
Ella’s eyes widened in dread as she shook her head, tears threatening to flow from her eyes.
“Do you want me to reveal your relationship to him?” Her lips parted in surprise.
“I know you like that lad, but you have yet to tell his parents about your relationship; imagine what will happen if they find out about our past.
Will they take you as their daughter-in-law?
No, right,” he smiled completely, turning Ella’s mind to silence as tears streamed down her cheeks.

“How about I tell them about your family, about your mother?” he asked, squeezing the life out of her spirit.
She shook her head.
“W-what do you want, Jack?” she questioned, her voice breaking with each word she said.
Ella had been hiding the truth about her life from everyone, including Max, but if Jack came to reveal the most significant aspect of her life, how would she face the people?
Jack smirked, his eyes sparkling evilly now that he’d tamed the little woman in front of him.
“If you don’t want me to tell anyone, leave your boyfriend,” he demanded, leaving Ella astonished.
“I can’t do it.
We love each other,” she yelled, unwilling to hear him.
“Then I suppose I should make our little secret public.
Why not make it your lover first, followed by his parents?
Ella, you will lose both your face and your job.
“Do you want to lose everything in your stubbornness?” he inquired.
Ella found herself in dead ends, but she knew Jack’s warning was serious.
He was quick to prove himself if she contradicted his comments.
Her breathing quickened as she saw him smirk at her powerlessness.
“How about I give you a deadline, and if you don’t make a decision by then, be prepared to face the consequences?” Jack smirked and blew a flying kiss her way before turning and walking away.
Everything around her went silent, and she felt like she was standing on ice until her entire body froze to death.
What had happened, and how was he supposed to find her?
All these years after graduation, she had never seen Jack direct his gaze at her, but now he was drawn back towards her, attempting to crush her life as he had in school.
Ella could remember everything vividly.
The recollections were like clear water, never to be washed away even to this day.
And now the same memory was haunting her, threatening to wreck her life just as it had before.
Ella could feel her body losing power, her mind frozen as if it had lost the ability to control her senses, when a sudden jerk jolted her out of her immobility.
“El, why are you standing here?” Stefan’s voice jolted her out of her reverie, and as if struck by life once more, she dropped everything and hugged him.
Ella felt as if Stefan had become her life, and his hug was the only refuge she had to escape these awful memories.
Stefan, astonished to see her acting out of character, wrapped his arm around her and stroked her back.
Something was wrong, he could tell, but now that he looks around, it appears bizarre.
Ella took her time to settle down before pulling back.
She tucked the strand away from her face and tried not to meet Stefan’s gaze.
Stefan observed her nervousness and chose not to force her to speak.
They quickly grabbed the items and left the grocery shop, headed straight for her apartment.
Unbeknownst to them, Jack was standing behind the shadow, watching the pair go.
He quickly updated Priscilla before walking away.
**** Eveline awoke to the sound of chirping birds and cautiously moved to the side, only to see Gabriel’s sleeping face.
Her tired eyes shine at the sight of his magnificent face, but her adoration quickly faded when she remembered the previous night’s incident.
“Gabriel, wake up.” Eveline mumbled as she attempted to stir him up with a light shake of his shoulder.
However, the man merely held her hand and kissed it before pulling it close to his heart and embracing her till she fell asleep.
Eveline grimaced at his attractiveness, knowing that no matter how adorable he appeared, now wasn’t the time to be impressed by his actions and wake him up so he could leave before Dad summoned them again.
“Eve, what are you doing?” Gabriel scowled as she struggled to remove her hand from his grip, disrupting his sleep.
“Am I waking you up?” Gabriel, you need to go home,” she said, using all of her effort before being pulled and crashing square upon Gabriel.
With his hand reflexing around her, Gabriel flipped her over the bed and imprisoned her with his hands on her side.
Eveline’s eyes went wide when she saw him grinning at her helplessness.
“Why should I go home?
I will leave only after having breakfast with you and Uncle Jonathan,” he announced, leaving no rooms for argument.
Eveline let go of her strength and laid motionless under him now.
She should’ve know Gabriel had already got the free pass to come into her room without being a thief and now with her father supporting him, she had no other way to send him away.
*** “Oh I thought Eveline would’ve sent you home by now.
Glad that you are here for the breakfast” Jonathan said looking at the couple making their way towards the long table and taking seat next to each other.
Eveline squinted her eyes on Jonathan’s remark and inquired,” How long you have been pretending to not know dad?” Eveline who had now sensed her secret was no longer a secret tried to clarify her doubts by getting clear with her father.
“Over a month now” Jonathan responded taking the bite from his food leaving both Eveline and Gabriel speechless.
“Then never you confronted us?” She asked in disbelief.
All this time he knew Gabriel was sleeping inside her room yet he never interrupted them.
And here she was getting worried on how she would face him.
